Shabbat Shalom

שַׁבָּת שָׁלוֹם

Today, we sadly use the Gregorian calendar from Pope Gregory; from the 1500’s.

Today’s date is Feb. 11, 2023

February -- month of Februa

Middle English Februarius
Latin
Februarius "of Februa"
Latin
Februa(s) "Februa" + -arius "ary (pertaining to)"
Latin
Februarius mensis "month of Februa"
Latin dies
februatus "day of purification"

Februarius had 28 days, until circa 450 BC when it had 23 or 24 days on some of every second year, until Julius when it had 29 days on every fourth year and 28 days otherwise.

Februa is the Roman festival of purification, held on February fifteenth. It is possibly of Sabine origin.

The God of Israel has His own Calendar: we are now in the 11th month of God Day 19, called Sebat / Sh’vat שְׁבָט

Zech.1 [1] [7] Upon the four and twentieth day of the eleventh month, which is the month Sebat / Sh’vat שְׁבָט

Today’s Topic:

Hide

 Silent

Measure up to

David’s cry

It seems like:

Pss.10 [1] Why stand you afar off, O Yehovah? Why hide You, Yourself in times of trouble?

Pss.44 [24] Wherefore hide You your face, and forget our affliction and our oppression?

Pss.88 [14] Yehovah, why cast you off my soul? Why hide You your face from me?

Pss.104 [29] You hide your face, they are troubled: you take away their breath, they die, and return to their dust.

Pss.13 [1] How long will You forget me, O Yehovah? Forever? How long will You hide your face from me?

Pss.27 [9] Hide not your face far from me; put not your servant away in anger: You have been my help; leave me not, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation.

Pss.30 [7] Yehovah, by your favor You have made my mountain to stand strong: You did hide your face, and I was troubled.

Pss.44 [24] Wherefore hide You your face, and forget our affliction and our oppression?

Pss.55 [1] Give ear to my prayer, O God; and hide not yourself from my supplication.

Pss.69 [17] …hide not your face from your servant; for I am in trouble: hear me speedily.

Pss.88 [14] Yehovah, why cast You off my soul? Why hide You your face from me?

Pss.89 [46] How long, Yehovah? Will You hide yourself forever?

Pss.102 [2] Hide not your face from me in the day when I am in trouble; incline your ear unto me: in the day when I call answer me speedily.

Pss.104 [29] You hide your face, they are troubled: You take away their breath, they die, and return to their dust.

Pss.143 [7] Hear me speedily, O Yehovah: my spirit fails: hide not your face from me, lest I be like unto them that go down into the pit.

Pss.28 [1] Unto you will I cry, O Yehovah my rock; be not silent to me: lest, if you be silent to me, I become like them that go down into the pit.

חָשָׁה chashah {khaw-shaw'}

Pss. 89 [6] For who in the heaven (or anywhere) can be compared unto Yehovah?

Who among the sons of the mighty can be like unto Yehovah?

NO ONE

David had so many prayers, his cry was heard

Isa.1 [10] Hear the word of Yehovah, You rulers of Sodom; give ear unto the law of our God, You people of Gomorrah.

[11] To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices unto Me? said Yehovah:

I am full of the burnt offerings of rams, and the fat of fed beasts; and I delight not in the blood of bullocks, or of lambs, or of he goats.
[12] When You come to appear before me, who hath required this at your hand, to tread my courts?
[13] Bring no more vain oblations; incense is an abomination unto me; the new moons and Sabbaths, the calling of assemblies, I cannot away with; it is iniquity, even the solemn meeting.
[14] Your new moons and your appointed feasts my soul hates: they are a trouble unto me; I am weary to bear them.
[15] And when You spread forth your hands, I will hide mine eyes from you: yea, when You make many prayers, I will not hear: your hands are full of blood.

[16] Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease to do evil;
[17] Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow.
[18] Come now, and let us reason together, said Yehovah: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.
[19] If You be willing and obedient, You shall eat the good of the land:

[20] But if You refuse and rebel, You shall be devoured with the sword: for the mouth of Yehovah had spoken it.

Isa.59

[1] Behold, the Yehovah's hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither His ear heavy, that it cannot hear:

[2] But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that He will not hear.

Mic.3 [4] Then shall they cry unto Yehovah, but he will not hear them: he will even hide his face from them at that time, as they have behaved themselves ill in their doings.

Isa.45 [15] Verily You are a God that hides yourself, O God of Israel, the Savior.

סָתַר {saw-thar'}

Measuring up to who?

Who are you measuring up to a fellow worker, associate, colleague, friend, a relative or God?

Definition - measure up to:

As in to approximate to come near or nearer to in character or quality,

to have necessary or fitting qualifications, to be the equal (as in ability or skill), tmeet a particular requirement, standard, or expectation.

Saul / Paul said:

2 Cor.10 [12] For we dare not make ourselves of the number(of so called wise, beautiful, rich),

or

Compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.

Gal.1 [13] For you have heard of my conversation in time past in the Jews' religion (wrong doctrine), how that beyond measure I persecuted the church of God, and wasted it:

[14] And profited in the Jews' religion (wrong doctrine), above many my equals in mine own nation, being more exceedingly zealous of the traditions of my fathers.

Compare

עָרַךְ `arak {aw-rak'}

Meaning:  1) to arrange, set or put or lay in order, set in array, prepare, order, ordain, handle, furnish, esteem, equal, direct, compare 1a) (Qal) 1a1) to arrange or set or lay in order, arrange, state in order, set forth (a legal case), set in place 1a2) to compare, be comparable

Isa.40

[21]

Have you not known?

Have you not heard?

Had it not been told you from the beginning?

Have you not understood from the foundations of the earth?

[22] It is He that sits upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretches out the heavens as a curtain, and spreads them out as a tent to dwell in:
[
23] That brings the princes to nothing; he makes the judges of the earth as vanity.

[24] Yea, they shall not be planted; yea, they shall not be sown: yea, their stock shall not take root in the earth: and he shall also blow upon them, and they shall wither, and the whirlwind shall take them away as stubble.

[25] To whom then will you liken (compare) me, or shall I be equal, said the Holy One?

[
26] Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who (He) had created these things, that brings out their host by number: He calls them all by names by the greatness of His might, for that He is strong in power; not one fails.

Isa.46

[3] Hearken unto me, O house of Jacob, and all the remnant of the house of Israel, which are borne by Me from the belly, which are carried from the womb:

[4] And even to your old age I am he; and even to hoar hairs will

I carry you:

I have made,

and

I will bear;

even

I will carry,

and

I will deliver you.

[5] To whom will you liken (compare) me, and make me equal, and compare me, that we may be like?

Gal.5

[19] Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
[
20] Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
[
21] Envying, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

Emulation: zeal, ardor (passion) in embracing, pursuing, defending anything - zeal in behalf of, for a person or thing

Ezek. 18

[25] Yet you say, the way of the Lord is not equal.

Hear now, O house of Israel;

Is not my way equal? Are not your ways unequal?

[26] When a righteous man turns away from his righteousness, and commits iniquity, and dies in them; for his iniquity that he had done shall he die.

[27] Again, when the wicked man turns away from his wickedness that he had committed, and does that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive.[28] Because he considers, and turns away from all his transgressions that he hath committed, he shall surely live, he shall not die.

[29] Yet said the house of Israel, The way of the Lord is not equal.

O house of Israel, are not my ways equal? Are not your ways unequal?

[30] Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways, said the Lord Yehovah. Repent, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin.
[
31] Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby you have transgressed; and make you a new heart and a new spirit: for why will you die O house of Israel?
[
32] For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dies, said the Lord Yehovah: wherefore turn yourselves, and live you.

Ezek. 33

[17] Yet the children of thy people say, the way of the Lord is not equal: but as for them, their way is not equal.

[18] When the righteous turn from his righteousness, and commits iniquity, he shall even die thereby.

[19] But if the wicked turn from his wickedness, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall live thereby.

[20] Yet you say, the way of the Lord is not equal. O you house of Israel, I will judge you every one after his ways.

In closing for today,

It may seem God may be silent unto you – He is still there!

As I said earlier, David had so many prayers, his cry was heard

Let your voice be heard to God

May God bless you all
