Romans - chapter 3

Rom.3

[1] What advantage then hath the Jew? or what profit is there of circumcision?
[2] Much every way: chiefly, because that unto them were committed the oracles of God.

Rom.9[1 ] I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Ghost,
[
2] That I have great heaviness and continual sorrow in my heart.
[
3] For I could wish that myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh:
[4] Who are Israelites; to whom pertaineth the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises;[5] Whose are the fathers, and of whom as concerning the flesh Christ came, who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen.

Israelites; to whom pertaineth:

the adoption

They are God's chosen people. God had chosen the people of Israel, from all of the peoples of the Earth. He made a covenant with them and declared them to be His people, and He to be their God. Out of all the peoples of the earth, Israel received the adoption as sons.

Amos.3[ 2] You only have I known of all the families of the earth: therefore I will punish you for all your iniquities.

Gentiles also receive the adoption now.

Rom.8[ 15] For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

[23] And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.

Rom.9[ 4] Who are Israelites; to whom pertaineth the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises;

Gal.4[ 5] To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.

Eph.1[ 5] Gal.4 [1 ] Now I say, That the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all;[ 2 ] But is under tutors and governors until the time appointed of the father.[3 ] Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world:[ 4 ] But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,[5 ] To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.[6 ] And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father .[7] Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ. Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,

the glory

The Glory of God is in many places in scripture. God met with the people of Israel in the Tabernacle. His glory accompanied them. His Presence went with them.

Exod.33[ 14] And he said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest .

Exod.24 [16 ] And the glory of the LORD abode upon mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days: and the seventh day he called unto Moses out of the midst of the cloud. [17 ] And the sight of the glory of the LORD was like devouring fire on the top of the mount in the eyes of the children of Israel.

Exod.40[ 34] Then a cloud covered the tent of the congregation, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle. [35 ] And Moses was not able to enter into the tent of the congregation, because the cloud abode thereon, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle.

the covenants

The Covenant God made with Abraham, the Covenant God made with Isaac, the Covenant God made with Jacob, all of the Covenants were given to the people of Israel.

the giving of the law

God met them at the mount and gave to them His commandments.

the service of God

They were instructed on how to worship God in a way that would be pleasing in His sight.

Heb.5[ 4] And no man taketh this honour unto himself, but he that is called of God, as was Aaron . ( priesthood )

the promises

All of the promises were given to the Israel of God specifically so that they might claim them and walk in them, and be the recipients of the blessing of the Promises.

Whose are the fathers,

Those holy, righteous men like Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, the great patriarchs of Israel were theirs, of the Jews.

and of whom as concerning the flesh Messiah / Christ came,

The ancestry of Messiah.. The Messiah who would come in the person of Yeshua / Jesus was revealed to the world the Jewish people.

Pss.132[ 11] The LORD hath sworn in truth unto David; he will not turn from it; Of the fruit of thy body will I ( Messiah ) set upon thy throne.

Rev.5[ 5]...... the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David,

John.4[ 9] Then saith the woman of Samaria unto Yeshua / him, How is it that thou, being a Jew

who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen.

Back to Rom.3

[3] For what if some did not believe? shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect?
[
4] God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written , That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged.

Pss.51 [4] Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest.

Back to Rom.3

[5] But if our unrighteousness commend ( to teach by combining and comparing), the righteousness of God, what shall we say? Is God unrighteous who taketh vengeance? (I speak as a man) [6 ] God forbid: for then how shall God judge the world?

[7] For if the truth of God hath more abounded ( or has been more illustrated ) --( an example - through my lie ) unto his glory; why yet am I also judged as a sinner? ( lying is a sin )
[
8] And not rather, (as we be slanderously reported, and as some affirm that we say,) Let us do evil, that good may come? whose damnation is just. [9] What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin;

[10] As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:

[11] There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.

Pss.14 [2] The LORD looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God.

Zeph.1[1 ] The word of the LORD which came unto Zephaniah the son of Cushi, the son of Gedaliah, the son of Amariah, the son of Hizkiah, in the days of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah.
[2] I will utterly consume all things from off the land, saith the LORD.
[3] I will consume man and beast; I will consume the fowls of the heaven, and the fishes of the sea, and the stumblingblocks with the wicked; and I will cut off man from off the land, saith the LORD.
[
4] I will also stretch out mine hand upon Judah, and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and I will cut off the remnant of Baal from this place, and the name of the Chemarims with the priests;
[5] And them that worship the host of heaven upon the housetops; and them that worship and that swear by the LORD, and that swear by Malcham;
[6] And them that are turned back from the LORD; and those that have not sought the LORD, nor inquired for him.

Back to Rom.3

[12] They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

Pss.14[ 3] They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

Pss.53[ 3] Every one of them is gone back: they are altogether become filthy; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

Back to Rom.3

[13] Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips:

Pss.5[ 9] For there is no faithfulness in their mouth; their inward part is very wickedness; their throat is an open sepulchre; they flatter with their tongue.

Back to Rom.3

[14] Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness:

Pss.10[ 7] His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and fraud: under his tongue is mischief and vanity.

Back to Rom.3

[15] Their feet are swift to shed blood:

Prov.6[ 18] An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,

Prov.1[ 16] For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood .

Back to Rom.3

[16] Destruction and misery are in their ways :

Prov.22[ 5] Thorns and snares are in the way of the froward: he that doth keep his soul shall be far from them.

Back to Rom.3

[17] And the way of peace have they not known :

Isa.59[ 8] The way of peace they know not; and there is no judgment in their goings: they have made them crooked paths: whosoever goeth therein shall not know peace.

Back to Rom.3

[18] There is no fear of God before their eyes.

Pss.36[ 1] The transgression of the wicked saith within my heart, that there is no fear of God before his eyes.

Pss.36[ 1] The transgression of the wicked saith within my heart, that there is no fear of God before his eyes.

Back to Rom.3

[19] Now we know that what things soever the law saith , it saith to them who are under ( or against ) the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.
[
20] Therefore by the deeds of ( or knowledge of - if bad ) the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin .

[21] But now the righteousness of God without ( or outside ) the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets ( the written word, ex.In Gen.where Abraham, by faith in uncircumcision received righteousness) ;[ 22] Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:
[23] For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
[24] Being justified ( made righteousness ) freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:
[
25] Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation ( which is the atoning sacrifice ) through faith in His blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
[
26] To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.

[27] Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith. ( It's all about grace through faith )

Eph.2[8] For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

There is no room nor reason for boasting, either in Jews or Gentiles:

Not in the Jews, who were very apt to boast of their being Abraham's seed; of their circumcision; of their being Israelites; of their having and keeping the law; of God being their God; and of their knowledge of Hhim:

Not in the Gentiles, who were ready to boast of their philosophy, wisdom, and learning; of their self-sufficiency, freewill, and of the things they had in their own power.

[28] Therefore we conclude that a man is justified ( made righteous, saved ) by faith ( in Messiah Blood ) without the deeds of the law.

[29] Is he the God of the Jews only? is he not also of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also:
[
30] Seeing it is one God, which shall justify the circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision through faith.

[31] Do we then make void the law through faith?

God forbid:

yea, we establish the law.

After we are justified ( made righteous, saved ) by faith, we now show God we love Him by keeping His Commandments.

Yeshua said: John.14 [15] If ye love me, keep my commandments.

[21] He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.

[23] Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.[24 ] He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me.

Rev.22[ 14] Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

Ecc. 12

[12 ] And further, by these, my son, be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh.
[
13] Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter : Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
[
14] For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.

SHALOM

Exod.16 [28] And the LORD said unto Moses, How long refuse ye to keep my commandments and my laws?

Pss.105[ 45] That they might observe his statutes, and keep his laws . Praise ye the LORD.

Pss.119[ 34] Give me understanding, and I shall keep thy law; yea, I shall observe it with my whole heart. [44 ] So shall I keep thy law continually for ever and ever.

[136] Rivers of waters run down mine eyes, because they keep not thy law.

Prov.3[ 1] My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments:

Prov.7[ 2] Keep my commandments, and live; and my law as the apple of thine eye.

Prov.28[ 4] They that forsake the law praise the wicked: but such as keep the law contend with them.

[7] Whoso keepeth the law is a wise son : but he that is a companion of riotous men shameth his father.

Prov.29[ 18] Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.
