Shabbat Shalom

שַׁבָּת שָׁלוֹם

Today, we use the Gregorian calendar from Pope Gregory; from the 1500’s,

The date is October 30, 2021

October - the eighth month - (now the 10th month)

Middle English octobre
Latin October
Latin
octo "eight" + -ber (adj. suffix)
Latin
october mensis "eighth month" - October has always had 31 days.

Yehovah has His own calendar which is deleted from the world

We are in the eighth month of God called Bul /Bool   בּוּל  day 23

1Kgs.6 [38]… in the month Bul, which is the eighth month

not Heshvan or Mar Heshvan – as Judaism states falsely

Marheshvan - Heshvan are names of the 8th month found in the Talmud not the Hebrew Bible…

We read from law and the prophets every Sabbath like they did in the Book of Acts.

Acts: 13 [15] … after the reading of the law and the prophets…

Remember it is, tis the season to be pagan”!

I am reminded again to inform you to beware of the false image of love, false emotions, loneliness, depression, financial drain, suicide and the artificial false festival lights they put up.

Satan really sets the stage for you.

The origin of Halloween is the Celtic Festival of Samhain, lord of death and evil spirits.

Once upon a time, Halloween was banned - Halloween was not celebrated in this country until 1845

Once upon a time, Christmas was banned in 1659 in the new land know as America

Last week I did a topic named “Being holy in an unholy world”.

 Today’s topic:

Let’s go over a few things again about Satan

As Saul puts it:

Eph.6 [12] for we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Peter told us:

1Pet.5 [8] Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour…

2 Cor.11 [14] … no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.

[15] Therefore it is no great thing if Satan’s ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.

Isaiah told us: Isa.14 [12] how are you fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning!

The blackness, darkness…

How are you cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!

[13] For you did said in your heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
[
14] I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.

[15] Yet you shall be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.

Ezekiel 28 states - Satan [13] …has been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was his covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that you was created.

[14] You are (was) the anointed cherub that covers (protects); and I have set thee so: you were upon the holy mountain of God; you have walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire.
[15] You were perfect in thy ways from the day that you were created,
until iniquity was found in you.

[16] By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of you with violence, and you have sinned: therefore I will cast you as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire.

[17] Your heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay you before kings, that they may behold you.

[18] You have defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude of your iniquities, by the iniquity of thy traffic; therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of thee, it shall devour thee, and I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold thee.
[19] All they that know you among the people shall be astonished at you:
you shall be a terror, and never shall thou be any more.

Yeshua said - Luke.10 [18]… Yeshua said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.

Now the History of Halloween

The origin of Halloween is the Celtic Festival of Samhain, lord of death and evil spirits. Long before Christ (at least 2000 years), Druids in Britain, Ireland, Scotland, France, Germany and other Celtic countries observed the end of summer by making sacrifices to Samhain.

The Celts considered November 1st as being the day of death because the leaves were falling, it was getting darker sooner and temperatures were dropping. They believed Muck Olla, their sun god was losing strength and Samhain, lord of death, was overpowering him.

Further, they believed that on October 31st Samhain assembled the spirits of all who had died during the previous year.

These spirits had been confined to inhabit animal bodies for the past year, as punishment for their evil deeds. They were allowed to return to their former home to visit the living on the eve (Oct. 31) of the Feast of Samhain.

Druid priests led the people in diabolical worship ceremonies in which horses, cats, black sheep, oxen, human beings and other offerings were rounded up, stuffed into wicker cages and burned to death.

This was done to appease Samhain and keep spirits from harming them. It is clear to see that HALLOWEEN HAS ALWAYS BEEN A CELEBRATION OF DEATH.

Our Pilgrim forefathers well knew of Halloween's occultic roots. In fact they banned celebrating Halloween in America. Halloween was not celebrated in this country until 1845.

At that time multiplied thousands of Irish emigrants flooded into New York because of the Irish Potato Famine of 1845-46. They brought with them the old Druid holiday of Halloween. Gradually celebrating this day spread throughout the rest of the country.

Halloween- Celtic peoples (Britons, Gauls, Scots, Irish). They observed the end of summer with sacrifices to SAMAN (Shamhain). He was "the lord of death and evil spirits". This marked the beginning of the Celtic New Year.

Depending on your source material, the Druid lord of death and evil spirits was called Saman, Samana, Shamhain or Samhain.

His "holiday" was called "The Vigil Of Saman" or Samhain (pronounced so-wein).

You probably have seen a modern day version of SAMAN without even knowing it. This pagan god was shown as a ghostly, skeleton holding a sickle in his hand. He later came to be known as THE GRIM REAPER.

The Druids - They were occult practitioners, witches of sorts.

In the century preceding the birth of Messiah, Caesar conquered Britain and he records very carefully the account of the DRUID PRIESTS (early witches)...

"All Gallic nations are much given to superstition...they either offer up men as victims to the gods, or make a vow to sacrifice themselves.

The ministers in these offerings are the Druids, and they hold that the wrath of the immortal gods can only be appeased, and man's life redeemed, by offering up human sacrifice, and it is a part of their national institutions to hold fixed solemnities (Ceremonies) for this purpose."

Sacrifices - Druid priests and people would go from house to house asking for fatted calves, black sheep, and human beings. Those who gave were promised prosperity and those who refused to give were cursed and threatened. In addition, it was likely that all of the "wandering spirits" would get hungry. If you set out a treat for them, they would not trick or curse you. Hence we have THE ORIGIN OF TRICK OR TREAT.

"Trick or Treat is a reenactment of the Druidic practices.

The candy has replaced the human sacrifices of old, but it is still an appeasement of those deceptive evil spirits. The traditional response to those who do not treat is to have a trick played on the. When you give out Halloween candy, you are, in essence providing a sacrifice to false gods. You are participating in idolatry" says the former high priest of Wicca, Tom Sanguinet.

The Jack-O-Lantern The World Book Encyclopedia, 1977 edition, volume 9, page 24-26 says:

"The apparently harmless lighted pumpkin face of `Jack-O-Lantern' is an ancient symbol of a damned soul."

In the book Occult Conceit the author says on page 190, "The candlelit pumpkin or skull served as a signal to mark those farms and homes that were sympathetic to the Satanists and thus deserving of mercy when the terror ("trick or treat") of the night began."

Further, an old edition of The World Book Encyclopedia says "The apparently harmless lighted pumpkin face of the Jack-O-Lantern is an ancient symbol of a damned soul."

COSTUMES - They originated with these terrible Druid death rites also.

As people and animals were screeching in agony, while being burned to death, the observers would dress in costumes made of animal skins and heads.

They would dance, chant and jump through the flames in hope warding off the evil spirits.

Again, the early origin of costumes is repulsive.

On the evening of October 31st, the Druids, who were the occultic priests and teachers of the Celts, ordered the people to put out their hearth fires.

The Druids built a huge new year's bonfire of oak branches, which they considered sacred. They burned animals, crops and human beings as sacrifices to their sun god Muck Olla and Samhain, their god of death.

During this diabolical ceremony the PEOPLE WORE COSTUMES made of animal heads and skins.

They then practiced divination, looked for omens in the struggle of the victims sacrificed in the fires, jumped over the flames or dashed through them, danced and sang. All of this was done to frighten the evil spirits away.

According to Man, Myth & Magic, volume 1, page 68, "The guisers went from house to house, singing and dancing. Their bloodcurdling masks and grotesque costumes may have been meant to keep evil at bay, or more likely, were visible representations of the ghosts and goblins that lurked in the night..."

In the 11th edition of Encyclopedia Britannica, volume 12, page 8578 it states, "It was the Druids belief that on the eve of this festival (November 1st, Celtic New Year) Samhain, lord of death, called together the wicked souls (Spirits) that within the past twelve months had been condemned to inhabit the bodies of animals."

Samhain would then send these evil spirits to attack people on the eve before the November 1st celebration. The only way these people could escape was by assuming disguises and looking like evil spirits themselves. (See Christianity Today, October 22, 1982, p.32).

BOBBING FOR APPLES - In A.D. 43 the Roman Empire was in solid control of the Celtic people.

As a result of this control the idol worshipping Romans introduced another ceremony honoring their false gods to the already demoniacal Druid New Year's celebration.

It was in honor of their goddess of fruit trees. They would try to grasp fruit, floating in water, without the use of their hands. This is the origin of BOBBING FOR APPLES according to the Atlanta Journal & Constitution, Associated Press quote, October 16, 1977.

The Black Cat - In the 1959 edition of World Book Encyclopedia, under Halloween it was noted that Druid priests believed that cats were once human beings but were reincarnated as punishment for evil deeds.

Because of this they held cats sacred and involved them in their idol worship of October 31st and November 1st.

Druids believed "the cat was sacred and that cats had once been changed (from being human & reincarnated) into that form as punishment for evil deeds." (The American Book of Days, by George Douglas)

"Even after Christianity spread to Europe...oxen were sacrificed on October 31st...And in medieval Europe, black cats were chosen as victims in the belief that they were witches in disguise and were burned on that day (Halloween)." (The American Book of Day, third edition by Hatch)

It is plain to see that cats, particularly BLACK CATS were thought to represent EVIL. Further, they were a symbol of REINCARNATION.

The Humane Society will not release black cats around Halloween for fear that they will be mistreated or sacrificed.

HOW DOES HALLOWEEN RELATE HISTORICALLY TO
In the middle ages the Catholic church attempted to Christianize the paganism involved in the Samhain festival by making November 1 All Saints Day and November 2 All Souls Day.

All Souls Day became a day to pray for the dead and to help them escape the torments of purgatory.

On May 13, around the year 610, Pope Boniface IV dedicated the Roman Pantheon to the Virgin Mary and all the Christian martyrs.

In 835 Pope Gregory IV transferred this feast of All Saints to November 1 and extended it to include all the saints.

So November 1 All Saints Day, the day after Halloween (Hallows Eve or All Saints Eve), became a day dedicated by the Catholic Church to the Virgin Mary and the saints.

Eventually, November 2 became All Souls Day as a special day to pray for the dead. This, of course, is an anti-biblical tradition.

Scripture says:

Heb 9 [27] …it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment…

Ecc.9 [5]… the living knows that they shall die: but the dead know not anything, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.

[6] Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion forever in anything that is done under the sun.

There is no real reincarnation

Prayers for the dead are vain and satanic.

Once a person dies there is no second chance. His / her eternity is set, heaven or lake of fire…

The Druids, the Catholic Church still teaches that the living may, through various acts, alleviate the sufferings of the dead.

They may pray for the souls being tormented in purgatory and ease their pain through specific or sacrificial acts such as penance, partaking in Catholic sacraments, mortification, using the Rosary, and good deeds like alms giving.

Prayers are said to the false Virgin Mary (Mary was not a perpetual virgin, she had other children), She is believed to have power to release the suffering from purgatory. - false -  This Catholic concept of purgatory also has many parallels in Judaism other religions.

This false teaching contradicts the Holy Scriptures.

The Bible says:

1 Tim 2:5 For there is one God, and one Mediator between God and men, the man Messiah Yeshua, [6] Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.

Prayers to Mary (vain repetitions) cannot help alleviate the sufferings of the dead, forget about it… Leave Mary alone….

Purgatory is a Judaism and Catholic pagan tradition

Now let's talk a little about Chanukah

Feast of the Dedication is not the Chanukah of today. 2021

Scripture says:

John.10 [22]… it was at Jerusalem the feast of the dedication, and it was winter [23] … Yeshua walked in the temple in Solomon's porch.

Questions:

What is the Hebrew word for dedication?

What month was it in the scriptural calendar not pope Greg's calendar?

Did Yeshua do a feast that is not scriptural as some do today? NO!!!

We will answer all these questions and more is this study, please read slowly.

Remember these points:

1. Chanukah in Hebrew means dedication pertaining to the Temple

2. There is no Temple today (destroyed in 70 AD)

3. Wrong month, should be Adar which is Feb. / March (Winter ends March 21th ) ( Ezra 6:14, 15 )

4. No 8 days of oil in the Maccabees

5. No 8 candlestick menorah in Scripture (only 7 and very important )

Chanukah is a Hebrew word meaning dedication.

חנכּה  Chanukah - initiation, that is, consecration: - dedicating (-tion), dedication

εγκαινια egkainia - dedication

חנכּא (Aramaic) chanukka' - (Chaldee); consecration: - dedication

חנכּה  chanukkah khan-ook-kaw' - Initiation, that is, consecration: - dedicating (-tion).

In the scriptures above, John.10 [22], pertaining to Chanukah or dedication, John was talking about Solomon's temple that Ezra help rebuild. (Not Judah Macabre)

(1 Kings 8:2; 2 Chr. 5:3) Also please read the scriptures below in Ezra, chapter 6.

Ezra.6 [14] And the elders of the Jews built, and they prospered through the prophesying of Haggai the prophet and Zechariah the son of Iddo, and  they built, and finished it, according to the commandment of the God of Israel, and according to the commandment of Cyrus, and Darius, and Artaxerxes king of Persia.

[15] And this house was finished on the third day of the month Adar, (our Feb. / March - cold - neither Nov. nor Dec.), which was in the sixth year of the reign of Darius the king.

[16] And the children of Israel, the priests, and the Levites, and the rest of the children of the captivity, kept the dedication of this house of God with joy,
[17] And offered at the dedication of this house of God an hundred bullocks, two hundred rams, four hundred lambs; and for a sin offering for all Israel, twelve he goats, according to the number of the tribes of Israel.

In the Book of Esther we read:

Esth.3 [7] In the first month, that is, the month Nisan, in the twelfth year of king Ahasuerus, they cast Pur, that is, the lot, before Haman from day to day, and from month to month, to the twelfth month, that is, the month Adar. (Feb. neither was it Nov. nor Dec.)

Chanukah is a Hebrew word meaning dedication because this observance marks the rededication and building of the Temple after it had been desecrated.

Also remember:

The first dedication was in the 7th month, ha Ethanim, 1Kings. 8:2 - (Sept. /Oct.) neither Nov. nor Dec.

1Kgs.8:[2] And all the men of Israel assembled themselves unto king Solomon at the feast in the month Ethanim, which is the seventh month.

Also, this is not new years, Adams birth day nor when the world was created as some falsely report.

[63] And Solomon offered a sacrifice of peace offerings, which he offered unto Yehovah, two and twenty thousand oxen, and an hundred and twenty thousand sheep. So the king and all the children of Israel "dedicated" the house of Yehovah. וַיַּחְנְכוּ

This is what you will hear from the made up tradition, which is wrong.

Also please remember there is "NO" commandment from God to "light candles" on this made up feast or the Holy Shabbat.

If you light candles on the Shabbat, it is fine as long as you DON'T say it is a commandment.

Scripture says:

Zech.7 [1] And it came to pass in the fourth year of king Darius, that the word of Yehovah came unto Zechariah in the fourth day of the ninth month, even in Chislev;

The other common made up name for this feast is Hag Ha-orim, which means 'the Feast of Lights'.

It is found in the writings of Josephus, who was a first Century Jewish historian.

This second name, however, is based upon a tradition.

Supposedly, when the Jews rededicated the Temple and wanted to rekindle the lamp stand, they found only enough oil for one day. It would take 8 days to make a new supply they decided to kindle and burn the remaining oil, a miracle occurred as the oil that was enough for only one day lasted for eight days ... thus, the term representing, "the Feast of Lights”. This is why the Chanukah menorah has eight candles, (which is unscriptural) instead of the seven the scriptural menorah has.

****They made 8 candles to commemorate this made up miracle.

The made of feast of today, Chanukah is not found anywhere in the Scriptures, as it originated during the time of history after the Book of Malachi.

There were no prophets after the book of Malachi for a long time.

It should be remembered that none of the historical books mention this fake miracle, as it originates with the "Talmud" and not with the books of the Holy Scriptures.

The historical books that speak of the Maccabean revolt as a real event are in the uninspired "Catholic" I and 2 Maccabees and they make no mention of any miracle of 8 days of oil at all!

As you can see, it is fact that this made-up feast is recorded in rabbinic writings not found in the Holy Scriptures.

Here is one purported made up Tradition from off the web:

Around 200 BCE Jews lived as an autonomous people in the land of Israel, which at this time was controlled by the Seleucid King of Syria. The Jewish people paid taxes to Syria and accepted its legal authority, and by and large were free to follow their own faith, maintain their own jobs, and engage in trade.

By 180 BCE Antiochus IV Epiphanies ascended to the Seleucid throne. At first little changed, but under his reign Jews were gradually forced to violate the precepts of their faith. Jews rebelled at having to do this. Under the reign of Antiochus IV, the Temple in Jerusalem was looted, Jews were massacred, and Judaism was effectively outlawed.

In 167 BCE Antiochus ordered an altar to Zeus erected in the Temple. Mattathias, a Jewish priest, and his five sons John, Simon, Eleazar, Jonathan, and Judah led a rebellion against Antiochus. Judah became known as Judah Maccabe (Judah The Hammer).

By 166 BCE Mattathias had died, and Judah took his place as leader. By 165 BCE the Jewish revolt against the Seleucid monarchy was successful. The Temple was liberated and rededicated.

The festival of Chanukah was instituted by Judah Maccabee and his brothers to celebrate this event. (1 Macc. iv. 59). After having recovered Jerusalem and the Temple, Judah ordered the Temple to be cleansed, a new altar to be built in place of the polluted one, and new holy vessels to be made. When the fire had been kindled anew upon the altar and the lamps of the candlestick lit, the dedication of the altar was celebrated for eight days amid sacrifices and songs (1 Macc. iv. 36). No miracle of oil here!

A number of historians believe that the reason for the eight day celebration was that the first Chanukah was in effect a belated celebration of the festival of Sukkot, the Feast of Tabernacles (2 Macc. x. 6 and i. 9).

During the war the Jews were not able to celebrate Sukkot properly.

Sukkot also lasts for eight days, and was a holiday in which the lighting of lamps played a prominent part during the Second Temple period (Suk.v. 2-4). (Made up)

Lights were also kindled in the household, and the popular name of the festival was, therefore, according to Josephus (Jewish Antiquities xii. 7, § 7) the "Festival of Lights." (Made up)

The Rabbis, years later commemorated this miracle that occurred, then decided to make this holiday more special so they designed a special menorah in which eight candles plus the 9th the Shamash candle were represented instead of the usual 7 candle lamp stand in the temple. 'From that came the concept of the eight days of Chanukah, which actuality is merely a copying of the Feast of Tabernacles which has 8 days.

Also, they put this made-up feast at the same time the gentile children were getting presents, December 25, pagan Christmas. Now all the Jewish children can get presents and not feel left out.

Now, let us look at the Talmud and the story the rabbis came up with, read on...

Talmud - MasShabbath 21b

It does not require attention, and one may make use of its light. R. Zera said in R. Mattenah's name — others state, R. Zera said in Rab's name :Regarding the wicks and oils which the Sages said, One must not light therewith on the Sabbath, one may light therewith on Hanukkah, either on weekdays or on the Sabbath. Said R. Jeremiah, What is Rab's reason?

He holds, If it goes out, it does not require attention, and one may not make use of its light.

The Rabbis stated this before Abaye in R. Jeremiah's name, but he did not accept it. [But] when Rabin came,

The Rabbis stated it before Abaye in R. Johanan's name, whereupon he accepted it. Had I, he observed, merited the great fortune, I would have learnt this dictum originally. But he learnt it [now]?-The difference is in respect of the studies of one's youth.

Now, if it goes out, does it not require attention?

But the following contradicts it: Its observance is from sunset until there is no wayfarer in the street. Does that not mean that if it goes out [within that period] it must be relit?-No: if one has not yet lit, he must light it; or, in respect of the statutory period.

‘Until there is no wayfarer in the street.’ Until when [is that]? — Rabbah b. Bar Hanah said in R. Johanan's name: Until the Palmyreans have departed.

Our Rabbis taught: (not mine)

The precept of Hanukkah [demands] one light for a man and his household; the zealous [kindle] a light for each member [of the household]; and the extremely zealous, —

Beth (house) Shammai maintain:

On the first day eight lights are lit and thereafter they are gradually reduced;

 but Beth (house) Hillel say:

On the first day one is lit and thereafter they are progressively increased. ‘Ulla said: In the West [Palestine] two amoraim,R. Jose b. Abin and R. Jose b. Zebida, differ therein: one maintains, The reason of Beth Shammai is that it shall correspond to the days still to come, and that of Beth Hillel is that it shall correspond to the days that are gone; but another maintains: Beth Shammai's reason is that it shall correspond to the bullocks of the Festival; whilst Beth Hillel's reason is that we promote in [matters of] sanctity but do not reduce.

Rabbah b. Bar Hana said: There were two old men in Sidon: one did as Beth Shammai and the other as Beth Hillel: the former gave the reason of his action that it should correspond to the bullocks of the Festival, while the latter stated his reason because we promote in [matters of] sanctity but do not reduce.

Our Rabbis(not mine) taught: It is incumbent to place the Hanukkah lamp by the door of one's house on the outside; if one dwells in an upper chamber, he places it at the window nearest the street. But in times of danger19 it is sufficient to place it on the table. Raba said: Another lamp is required for its light to be used; yet if there is a blazing fire it is unnecessary. But in the case of an important person, even if there is a blazing fire another lamp is required.

What is [the reason of] Hanukkah?

For our Rabbis(not mine) taught: On the twenty-fifth of Kislew22 [commence] the days of Hanukkah, which are eight on which a lamentation for the dead and fasting are forbidden.

For when the Greeks entered the Temple, they defiled all the oils therein, and when the Hasmonean dynasty prevailed against and defeated them, they made search and found only one cruse of oil which lay with the seal of the High Priest, but which contained sufficient for one day's lighting only; yet a miracle was wrought therein and they lit [the lamp] therewith for eight days.

The following year these [days] were appointed a Festival with [the recital of] Hallel and thanksgiving.

We learnt elsewhere: If a spark which flies from the anvil goes forth and causes damage, he [the smith] is liable. If a camel laden with flax passes through a street, and the flax overflows into a shop, catches fire at the shopkeeper's lamp, and sets the building alight, the camel owner is liable; but if the shopkeeper placed the light outside, the shopkeeper is liable.

 R. Judah said: In the case of a Hanukkah lamp he is exempt. Rabina said in Rab's name: This proves that the Hanukkah lamp should [in the first instance] be placed within ten. For should you think, above ten, let him say to him, ‘You ought to have placed it higher than a camel and his rider.’ ‘Yet perhaps if he is put to too much trouble, he may refrain from the [observance of the] precept’.

R. Kahana said, R. Nathan b. Minyomi expounded in R. Tanhum's name:

‘The Festival’, without a determinate, always refers to Tabernacles (Sukkoth). Thirteen bullocks were sacrificed on the first day, twelve on the second, and so on, one less each succeeding day; v, Num. XXIX, 12 seqq.

They say, the ninth month of the Jewish year, corresponding to about December.

This lighting took place in 165 B.C.E. Exactly three years before, on the same day, Antiochus Epiphanes had a pagan altar erected in the Temple, upon which sacrifices were offered (I Macc. I, 41-64).

Apart from the Talmudic reason stated here, Judas Maccabeus chose 25th of Kislev as the anniversary of the Temple's defilement, and the dedication of the new altar was celebrated with lights for eight days, similarly to the Feast of Tabernacles, which lasted eight days and was celebrated by illuminations (I Macc. IV, 36;II Macc. X, 6; supra a, p. 90, n. 3).

Actually the revolt was against the Syrians, of whom Antiochus Epiphanes was king, but the term ‘Greeks’ is used loosely, because the Seleucid Empire was part of the older Empire founded by Alexander the Great of Macedon, and because it was a reaction against the attempted Hellenization of Judea.

The supposed historical data are contained in the:

First Book of the Maccabees preserved by the Catholic Church
