שַׁבָּת שָׁלוֹם

Today, we use the Gregorian calendar from Pope Gregory; from the 1500’s,

The date is February 12, 2022

February -- month of Februa

Latin dies februatus "day of purification"

Februarius had 28 days, until circa 450 BC when it had 23 or 24 days on some of every second year, until Julius when it had 29 days on every fourth year and 28 days otherwise.

Februa is the Roman festival of purification held on February fifteenth.

Intercalaris -- inter-calendar month

Latin Intercalaris "inter-calendar"
Intercalaris had 27 days until the month was abolished by Julius.

God has His own Calendar:

We are now in the 12th month of God called Adar, day 10

Esth.3 [7] …12th month Adar אֲדָר

We read from law and the prophets every Sabbath like they did in the Book of Acts 13 [15] … after the reading of the law and the prophets…

As Yeshua said it:

Luke 24 [44] And Yeshua said unto them, These are the words which I spoke unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.

the law of Moses (not used by most churches today)

the prophets (not used by most churches today)

The Word of God - Torah, Prophets and Writings

Ta Na K is an acronym for:

T = Torah (law, teachings) - first 5 books of Moses

N = Navieem or prophets (pl. sounds like - Na vi eem)

K = Ke'tuvim or writings (psalms etc.)

Next week we shall read the story of Purim (Lord willing)

Today’s topic:

A few verses pertaining to:

Pride and Humble

I will start with “Humble”,

a few words in the Hebrew and Greek

עָנָה

ânâh A primitive root - abase self, afflict (-ion, self), chasten self, deal hardly with, defile,  gentleness, humble (self), hurt, ravish,  submit self...

כָּנַע

kâna‛- A primitive root; properly to bend the knee; hence to humiliate - bring down (low), into subjection, under, humble (self), subdue.

שַׁח

Shach -  sunk, that is, downcast: -  + humble.

שָׁפָל

shâphâl base, humble, lowly

ταπεινόω - tapeinoō - to depress; figuratively to humiliate (in condition or heart): - abase, bring low, humble (self).

Ταπεινόςtapeinos - depressed, that is, (figuratively) humiliated (in circumstances or disposition): - base, cast down, humble, of low degree (estate), lowly.

2 Chr. 12

Here is one time Rehoboam did right:

[1] And it came to pass, when Rehoboam had established the kingdom, and had strengthened himself, he forsook the law of Yehovah, and all Israel with him.
[2] And it came to pass, that in the fifth year of king Rehoboam Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem, because they had transgressed against Yehovah,
[
3] With twelve hundred chariots, and threescore thousand horsemen: and the people were without number that came with him out of Egypt; the Lubims, the Sukkiims, and the Ethiopians.
[
4] And he took the fenced cities which pertained to Judah, and came to Jerusalem.
[
5] Then came Shemaiah the prophet to Rehoboam, and to the princes of Judah, that were gathered together to Jerusalem because of Shishak, and said unto them, Thus said Yehovah, Ye have forsaken me, and therefore have I also left you in the hand of Shishak.

[6] Whereupon the princes of Israel and the king humbled themselves; and they said, Yehovah is righteous.

[7] And when Yehovah saw that they humbled themselves, the word of Yehovah came to Shemaiah, saying, They have humbled themselves; therefore I will not destroy them, but I will grant them some deliverance; and my wrath shall not be poured out upon Jerusalem by the hand of Shishak.

Pss.9 [11] Sing praises to Yehovah, which dwelleth in Zion: declare among the people his doings. [12] When he makes inquisition for blood, he remembers them: God forgets not the cry of the humble.

Pss.10 [1] Why stand you afar off, O Yehovah? Why hid you yourself in times of trouble?
[2] The wicked in his pride doth persecute the poor: let them be taken in the devices that they have imagined.
[3] For the wicked boast of his heart's desire, and blesses the covetous, whom Yehovah abhors.
[4] The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God: God is not in all his thoughts.
[5] His ways are always grievous, your judgments are far above out of his sight: as for all his enemies, he puffs at them.
[6] He had said in his heart, I shall not be moved: for I shall never be in adversity.
[7] His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and fraud: under his tongue is mischief and vanity.
[8] He sits in the lurking places of the villages: in the secret places doth he murder the innocent: his eyes are privily set against the poor.
[9] He lies in wait secretly as a lion in his den: he lies in wait to catch the poor: he doth catch the poor, when he draws him into his net.
[10] He crouches, and humbles himself, that the poor may fall by his strong ones.
[11] He hath said in his heart, God hath forgotten: he hides his face; he will never see it.

[12] Arise, O Yehovah; O God, lift up your hand: forget not the humble.
[13] Wherefore did the wicked contemn God? He had said in his heart, You will not require it.
[14] You have seen it; for you behold mischief and spite, to requite it with thy hand: the poor commits himself unto you; you are the helper of the fatherless.
[15] Break thou the arm of the wicked and the evil man: seek out his wickedness till thou find none.

[16] Yehovah is King forever and ever: the heathen are perished out of his land.
[17] Yehovah you have heard the desire of the humble: you will prepare their heart, you will cause your ear to hear:[18] To judge the fatherless and the oppressed, that the man of the earth may no more oppress.

Pss.34 [2] My soul shall make her boast in Yehovah: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad.

Pss.35 [13] …as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth: I humbled my soul with fasting; and my prayer returned into mine own bosom.

Pss.69 [32] The humble shall see this, and be glad: and your heart shall live that seek God.

Pss. 113 [1] Praise Yah. Praise, O ye servants of Yehovah, praise the name of Yehovah.
[2] Blessed be the name of Yehovah from this time forth and for evermore.
[3] From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same Yehovah’s name is to be praised.
[4] Yehovah is high above all nations, and his glory above the heavens.
[5] Who is like unto Yehovah our God, who dwells on high,
[6] Who humbles himself to behold the things that are in heaven, and in the earth!
[7] He raises up the poor out of the dust, and lifts the needy out of the dunghill;
[8] That he may set him with princes, even with the princes of his people.
[9] He makes the barren woman to keep house, and to be a joyful mother of children. Praise Yah.

Prov.6 [3] Do this now, my son, deliver thyself, when you art come into the hand of your friend; go, humble thyself, and make sure your friend.

Prov.16 [19] Better it is to be of an humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud.

Matt.18 [4] Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

Matt.23 [12] And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.

Luke.18 [9] And Yeshua spoke this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:
[10] Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.
[11] The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank you, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.
[12] I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.
[13] And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.

[14] I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalts himself shall be abased; and he that humbles himself shall be exalted.

Phil.2 [1] If there be therefore any consolation in Messiah, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies,
[2] Fulfill ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.
[3] Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.
[4] Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.
[5] Let this mind be in you, which was also in Messiah Yeshua:
[6] Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
[7] But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:

[8] And being found in fashion as a man, Yeshua humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

[9] Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
[10] That at the name of Yeshua every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
[11] And that every tongue should confess that Yeshua the Messiah is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Col.3 [12] Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;

[13] Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Messiah forgave you, so also do ye.
[14] And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.
[15] And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.

Jas.4 [4] Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? Whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

[5] Do ye think that the scripture said in vain, The spirit that dwells in us lusts to envy?
[6] But he gives more grace.

Wherefore he said, God resists the proud, but gives grace unto the humble.

[7] Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
[8] Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you.

[10] Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

1Pet.5 [5] Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.

[6] Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:

[7] Casting all your care upon God; for he cares for you.
[8] Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
[9] Whom resist steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.

Mark.7 [21] For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders,[22] Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness:
[23] All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.

The scriptures talk about:

the pride of Assyria

for the pride of Jordan

the pride of the Philistines

The pride of your heart

the pride of Israel

the pride of Judah

the pride of Moab

the pride of evil men

the pride of man

Lev. 26 read the whole chapter if you get a chance…

[18] And if ye will not yet for all this hearken unto me, then I will punish you seven times more for your sins.

[19] And I will break the pride of your power;

and I will make your heaven as iron, and your earth as brass:[20] And your strength shall be spent in vain: for your land shall not yield her increase, neither shall the trees of the land yield their fruits.

Jer.48 [29] We have heard the pride of Moab, (he is exceeding proud) his loftiness, and his arrogance, and his pride, and the haughtiness of his heart.

Pss.10 [2] The wicked in his pride doth persecute the poor: let them be taken in the devices that they have imagined.

[4] The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God: God is not in all his thoughts.

Pss.31 [19] Oh how great is your goodness, which you have laid up for them that fear you; which you have wrought for them that trust in you before the sons of men! [20] You shall hide them in the secret of Your presence from the pride of man: you shall keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongues.

Pss.36 [11] Let not the foot of pride come against me, and let not the hand of the wicked remove me.

Pss.59 [1] Deliver me from mine enemies, O my God: defend me from them that rise up against me.

[12] For the sin of their mouth and the words of their lips let them even be taken in their pride: and for cursing and lying which they speak.

Pss.73 [1] Truly God is good to Israel, even to such as are of a clean heart.
[2] But as for me, my feet were almost gone; my steps had well nigh slipped.
[3] For I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.
[4] For there are no bands in their death: but their strength is firm.
[5] They are not in trouble as other men; neither are they plagued like other men.

[6] Therefore pride compasses them about as a chain; violence covers them as a garment.

[7] Their eyes stand out with fatness: they have more than heart could wish.
[8] They are corrupt, and speak wickedly concerning oppression: they speak loftily.
[9] They set their mouth against the heavens, and their tongue walketh through the earth.

[11] And they say, how doth God know? And is there knowledge in the most High?

[12] Behold, these are the ungodly, who prosper in the world; they increase in riches.

[27] For, lo, they that are far from you shall perish: You have destroyed all them that go a whoring from you.

Prov.8 [13] The fear of Yehovah is to hate evil: pride, and arrogance, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.

Prov.11 [2] When pride comes, then comes shame: but with the lowly is wisdom.

Prov.13 [10] Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.

Prov.14 [3] In the mouth of the foolish is a rod of pride: but the lips of the wise shall preserve them.

Prov.16 [18] Pride goes before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.

Prov.29 [23] A man's pride shall bring him low: but honor shall uphold the humble in spirit.

Isa.28 [1] Woe to the crown of pride, to the drunkards of Ephraim, whose glorious beauty is a fading flower, which are on the head of the fat valleys of them that are overcome with wine!

[2] Behold, the Lord had a mighty and strong one, which as a tempest of hail and a destroying storm, as a flood of mighty waters overflowing, shall cast down to the earth with the hand.
[
3] The crown of pride, the drunkards of Ephraim, shall be trodden under feet:[4] And the glorious beauty, which is on the head of the fat valley, shall be a fading flower, and as the hasty fruit before the summer; which when he that looks upon it seethe, while it is yet in his hand he eats it up.

There are many words for “pride” in the Hebrew and Greek, here are a few:

גַּאֲוָה

ga'ăvâh - arrogance or majesty; haughtiness, highness, pride, proudly, swelling.

גָּאוֹן

gâ'ôn -  arrogancy, excellency (-lent), majesty, pomp, pride, proud, swelling.

גֵּאָה

gê'âh - arrogance: - pride.

זָדוֹן

zâdôn - arrogance: - presumptuously, pride, proud (man).

ὑπερηφανία - huperēphania - haughtiness: - pride.

Τυφόω - tuphoō - to envelop with smoke, that is, (figuratively) to inflate with self conceit: - high-minded, be lifted up with pride, be proud.

1Tim.3  [6] Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.

1 John 2 [16] For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

Obadiah 1

[1] The vision of Obadiah.

Thus said the Lord Yehovah concerning Edom;

We have heard a rumor from Yehovah, and an ambassador is sent among the heathen, Arise ye, and let us rise up against her in battle.
[2] Behold, I have made you small among the heathen: thou art greatly despised.
[3] The pride of your heart hath deceived thee, you that dwell in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation is high; that said in his heart, who shall bring me down to the ground?

[4] Though you exalt thyself as the eagle, and though you set thy nest among the stars, thence will I bring you down, said Yehovah.

Pride and being proud are similar, here are a few verses pertaining to the proud:

Prov.6

[16] These six things doth Yehovah hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:
[17] A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,
[18] An heart that devises wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,
[19] A false witness that speaks lies, and he that sows discord among brethren.

Prov.15 [25] Yehovah will destroy the house of the proud: but he will establish the border of the widow.

Prov.16 [5] Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to Yehovah: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished.

[19] Better it is to be of an humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud.

Prov.21 [4] An high look, and a proud heart, and the plowing of the wicked, is sin.

[24] Proud and haughty scorner is his name, who dealeth in proud wrath.

Prov.28 [25] He that is of a proud heart stirreth up strife: but he that putteth his trust in Yehovah shall be made fat.

Dan.4 [37] Now I Nebuchadnezzar praise and extol and honor the King of heaven, all whose works are truth, and His ways judgment: and those that walk in pride He is able to abase.

In closing for today:

As you can see by these few verses, it is better to be humble, then proud

Always examine yourselves:

2Cor.13 [5] Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Yeshua the Messiah is in you, except ye be reprobates?

Finally, brothers and sisters farewell for now, be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you.
