The Comforter - The Holy Spirit / Ghost - the promise of the Father
John.4[
7] There cometh a woman of Samaria
to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink.[
8] (For his disciples were gone away
unto the city to buy meat.)[9
] Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou,
being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews
have no dealings with the Samaritans.[10
] Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of
God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have
asked of him, and he would have given thee living water. [
11] The woman saith unto him, Sir,
thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast
thou that living water?[12]
Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof
himself, and his children, and his cattle?
[13] Jesus answered and said
unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:[
14] But whosoever drinketh of the water
that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him
shall be in him a well of water springing up
into everlasting life.[15
] The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that
I thirst not, neither come hither to draw.
John.7[
37] In the last day, that great
day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him
come unto me, and drink.
[38] He that believeth on me,
as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow
rivers of living water.[39
] (But
this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him
should receive: for the Holy Ghost
was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)
John.14 [ 16] And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter , that he may abide with you for ever; [ 26] But the Comforter , which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.[17 ] Even the Spirit of truth ; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.[ 18] I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
John.15 [ 26] But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father , even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father , he shall testify of me:[27 ] And ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning.
John.16 [
7] Nevertheless
I tell you the truth; It is expedient for
you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto
you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.[
8] And when he is come, he will
reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
[9] Of sin, because they believe
not on me;
[10] Of righteousness, because
I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;
[11] Of judgment, because the
prince of this world is judged.
[12] I have yet many things
to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.[13
] Howbeit when he, the Spirit
of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth:
for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall
he speak: and he will shew you things to come
.[14] He
shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
Luke.24[ 49] And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.
Acts.1[ 5] For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence .
[8] But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
Acts.2 [1] And when the day of
Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
[2] And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind,
and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
[3] And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat
upon each of them.
[4] And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost,
and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
[5]
And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation
under heaven.
[6] Now when this was noised
abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every
man heard them speak in his own language.
[7] And they were all amazed
and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak
Galilaeans?
[8] And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein
we were born?
[9]
Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in
Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia,
[10] Phrygia, and Pamphylia,
in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews
and proselytes,
[11] Cretes and Arabians, we
do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.
[12] And they were all amazed,
and were in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this?
[13] Others mocking said, These
men are full of new wine.
[14] But Peter, standing up
with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea,
and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to
my words:
[15] For these are not drunken,
as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day.
[16] But this is that which was spoken by the prophet
Joel;
[17]
And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God,I will pour out of my
Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and
your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:
[18] And on my servants and
on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall
prophesy:
[19] And I will shew wonders
in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour
of smoke:
[20] The sun shall be turned
into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of
the Lord come:
[21] And it shall come to pass,
that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Joel.2 [
28] And it shall come to pass
afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and
your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young
men shall see visions:[29] And
also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out
my spirit.
[30] And I will shew wonders
in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke.
[31] The sun shall be turned
into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day
of the LORD come.
[32] And it shall come to pass,
that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered: for in
mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the LORD hath said, and
in the remnant whom the LORD shall call.
Acts.10 [
34] Then Peter opened his mouth,
and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:
[35] But in every nation he
that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.
[36] The word which God sent
unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of
all:)
[37] That word, I say, ye know,
which was published throughout all Judaea, and began from Galilee, after the
baptism which John preached;
[38] How God anointed Jesus
of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good,
and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.
[39] And we are witnesses of
all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom
they slew and hanged on a tree:
[40] Him God raised up the third
day, and shewed him openly;
[41] Not to all the people,
but unto witnesses chosen before of God, even to us, who did eat and drink
with him after he rose from the dead.
[42] And he commanded us to
preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of
God to be the Judge of quick and dead.
[43] To him give all the prophets
witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission
of sins.
[44] While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost
fell on all them which heard the word.
[45] And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as
came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift
of the Holy Ghost.
[46] For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God.
Then answered Peter,
[47] Can any man forbid water,
that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well
as we?
[48] And he commanded them to
be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain
days.
Acts.19 [
1] And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was
at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and
finding certain disciples,
[2] He said unto them,
Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And
they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy
Ghost.
[3]
And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto
John's baptism.
[4] Then said Paul, John verily
baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they
should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.
[5] When they heard this, they
were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
[6] And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the
Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.
[7]
And all the men were about twelve.
