anti-Semitism and works to safeguard the Jewish community in Britain, said 250
anti-Semitic incidents were recorded in the four weeks after Dec. 27. That
compares to 40 incidents from the same period the year before.

There are just too
many accounts of this pagan day on the internet. Here are just a few, read this
later if you want.
The Feast of
Lubercus
The first interpretation has this celebration
originating as a pagan tradition in the third century. During this time hordes
of hungry wolves roamed outside of Rome where shepherds kept their flocks. The
God Lupercus, was said to watch over the shepherds and their flocks and keep
them from the wolves. Every February the Romans celebrated a feast called
Lupercalia to honor Lupercus so that no harm would come to the shepherds and
their flocks. Also during Lupercalia, but in honor of the goddess Juno Februata,
the names of young women were put into a box and names were drawn by lot. The
boys and girls who were matched would be considered partners for the year,
which began in March. This celebration continued long after wolves were a
problem to Rome.
St. Valentine's Day
As Christianity became prevalent, priests
attempted to replace old heathen practices. To Christianize the ancient pagan
celebration of the Feast of Lubercus, the church officials changed the name to
St. Valentine's Day. To give the celebration further meaning and eliminate
pagan traditions, priests substituted the drawing of their Saints names for the
names of the girls. On St. Valentine's Day the priest placed saint's names into
an urn or box. The young people then drew a name from the container. In the
following year, the youth was supposed to emulate the life of the saint whose
name he had drawn.
By the fourteenth century they reverted back to
the use of girl's names. In the sixteenth century they once again tried to have
saintly valentines but it was as unsuccessful as the first attempt.
While it can't be proved historically, there were
seven men named Valentine who were honored with feasts on February 14th. Of
these men, two stories link incidents that could have given our present day meaning
to St. Valentine's Day.
One of these men named Valentine was a priest
during the reign of Emperor Claudius. Valentine was revered by the young and
old, rich and poor, with people of all walks of life attending his services. At
this time Emperor Claudius was heavily recruiting men to serve as soldiers for
his wars without much success. The men preferred not to leave their wives,
families and sweethearts to fight in foreign lands. Claudius became angry and
declared that no more marriages could be performed and all engagements were
cancelled.
Valentine thought this to be unfair and secretly
married several couples. When Claudius found out, he threw Valentine in prison
where he died. Friends of the priest retrieved his body and buried it in a
churchyard in Rome.
Another version had St. Valentine jailed for
helping Christians. While Valentine was in prison he cured a jailer's daughter
of blindness. Claudius became enraged and had Valentine clubbed and beheaded on
February 14, 269 A.D.
Yet another story claims that Valentine fell in
love with the jailer's daughter and wrote her letters that were signed
"From your Valentine."
All of the seven Valentines eventually evolved
into one. In 496 Pope Gelasius declared the day in honor of St. Valentine.
Through the centuries the Christian holiday became a time to exchange love
messages and St. Valentine became the patron saint of lovers. Lovers' quarrels
come under his jurisdiction and, naturally, he is the patron saint of engaged
couples and of anyone wishing to marry.

The Origins of St. Valentine’s Day
A quick quiz: St. Valentine was:
a) a priest in the Roman Empire who helped
persecuted Christians during the reign of Claudius II, was thrown in jail and
later beheaded on Feb. 14.
b) a Catholic bishop of Terni who was beheaded, also during the reign of
Claudius II.
c) someone who secretly married couples when marriage was forbidden, or
suffered in Africa, or wrote letters to his jailer's daughter, and was probably
beheaded.
d) all, some, or possibly none of the above.

chocolates.
Although the mid-February holiday celebrating
love and lovers remains wildly popular, the confusion over its origins led the
Catholic Church, in 1969, to drop St. Valentine's Day from the Roman calendar
of official, worldwide Catholic feasts. (Those highly sought-after days
are reserved for saints with more clear historical record. After all, the
saints are real individuals for us to imitate.) Some parishes, however, observe
the feast of St. Valentine.
The roots of St. Valentine's Day lie in the
ancient Roman festival of Lupercalia, which was
celebrated on Feb. 15. For 800 years the Romans had dedicated this day to the
god Lupercus. On Lupercalia, a young man would draw the name of a young woman
in a lottery and would then keep the woman as a sexual companion for the year.
Pope Gelasius I was, understandably, less than
thrilled with this custom. So he changed the lottery to have both young men and
women draw the names of saints whom they would then emulate for the year (a
change that no doubt disappointed a few young men). Instead of Lupercus, the
patron of the feast became Valentine. For Roman men, the day continued to be an
occasion to seek the affections of women, and it became a tradition to give out
handwritten messages of admiration that included Valentine's name.
There was also a conventional belief in Europe
during the Middle Ages that birds chose their partners in the middle of
February. Thus the day was dedicated to love, and people observed it by writing
love letters and sending small gifts to their beloved. Legend has it that
Charles, duke of Orleans, sent the first real Valentine card to his wife in
1415, when he was imprisoned in the Tower of London. (He, however, was not
beheaded, and died a half-century later of old age.)

Again, St. Valentine's Day has "NOTHING" to do with he God of Israel or any

Subject: Time to "Save
the World", one person at a time!
Below, please find a few topics you may want to think about
as you travel the road of life.
Actions, choices and decisions we make, (knowingly or unknowingly) in our lives, have reactions
which produce both good and bad consequences which can affect many others. We
can also be affected by the choices others make as well. Concentrate on actions
that lead to positive consequences.
Did you notice the jail up the road from here?
Jails are packed with people who regret the choices
they made and their records may be tarnished forever. Some people may
never get out of some jail for their crimes. Just imagine a whole life spent in
a jail. This is a very sober thought to ponder.
Let's talk:

How old are
you today? "Time waits for no one". Remember when you were...years
old? (Grammar School, High School, College and so on...) most things change,
friends etc.

Are
you a member of any religion?
·
"Peer
Pressure"
a. What are your types of
friends?
b. What are your types of role
models? (Sports, music, movie stars)
c. Are you
a follower or a leader? You better think about yourself, your friends may not
be thinking in your best interest, when they want you to do something you know
is not right.

Where do you
spend your time when not in school or work? Hobbies?
·
How do you
speak and treat others? Do you keep your word? (parents, relatives, friends,
strangers) Words can give life or death.
·
Do you know
what your type of dress promotes, generates and produces?
·
Sexually
immorality - transmission of sexually transmitted diseases
·
Drinking /
drugs - (Driving under the influence) (Driving over
the speed limit) Just think, you will never get a DUI if you
don't drink and drive.
Using drugs is illegal and always leads to
problems in school and later in life, getting and holding a job. Drinking under
age is illegal.

Smoking: (think of all the money you can save)
if you smoke, you may have started smoking because all your friends do or
because you grew up in a house where lots of people smoked. Some people try
smoking because they are curious or bored.
Cigarette Smoking is the major cause of emphysema. When exposed to cigarette smoke, the air sacs of
the lungs produce defensive cells, called macrophages, which “eat" the
inhaled particles. But macrophages are stimulated to release materials which
can destroy the proteins that let the lungs expand and contract. (Simply put,
your body is coming against itself) Also smoking is very bad if you have asthma. Cigarette smoke also damages the cilia, tiny
hair-like projections in the bronchi that “sweep" foreign bodies and
bacteria out of the lung.

Skin cancer - Exposure to too much sun causes
most of the wrinkles and age spots on our faces. The sun's rays, which are
called ultraviolet A and ultraviolet B rays (UVA and UVB rays) damage your
skin. This leads to early wrinkles, skin cancer and other skin problems. Being
in the sun often over time, even if you don't burn, can lead to skin cancer. A
tan is the body's desperate attempt to protect itself from the sun's harmful
rays.
Tanning
booths are not safe - Tanning booths use UVA rays. Makers of the booths may claim that they
are "harmless", but in fact, UVA rays are the strongest, most
penetrating, and will cause irreversible damage to the skin.

attitude - Are you a motivational or lackadaisical person?

Do you have
short term goals to reach your ultimate goal?

Dishonest, Lying, Cheating, Irresponsible, Stealing - (mp3's, music,
videos) - Pornography

Not paying bills - lunch, drinks, videos, music, movies, etc.

Are you not showing up for school or work on time? Learn what being
punctual means.

Education - The more education you have today, the better you will be in the
future. Take one day at a time. How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a
time.
Law-abiding and moral people cause less trouble
for themselves and others as opposed to people who are irresponsible or
promiscuous.
No matter what anyone tells you, be the
best you can be.

sight: thou hatest all workers of iniquity.
Pss. 1 [6] For the LORD knoweth the way of the
righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.
Pss. 146 [9] The LORD preserveth the strangers;
he relieveth the fatherless and widow: but the way of
the wicked he turneth upside down.
Prov. 4 [19] The way of
the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble.
Prov. 10 [29] The way of the LORD is strength to
the upright: but destruction shall be to the workers of
iniquity.
Prov. 12 [26] The righteous is more excellent
than his neighbour: but the way of the wicked seduceth
them.
Prov. 15 [9] The way of
the wicked is an abomination unto the LORD: but he loveth him that
followeth after righteousness.

snares are in the way of the froward: he that doth keep his soul shall
be far from them.

his mouth: but the soul of the transgressors shall eat

In the scriptures, the words
backslider or backsliding, only pertained to Israel, when they left the Lord.
These words never pertained to any other peoples of the any lands.
These people were nerver with the
Lord. Examples: the Chanaanite, the Pherezite, the Jebusite, the
Gergesites and many other peoples.
