Shabbat Shalom

שַׁבָּת שָׁלוֹם

Today, we sadly use the Gregorian calendar from Pope Gregory; from the 1500’s.

Today’s date is March 4, 2023

March -- Mars' month

Middle English March(e)
Anglo-French March(e)
Old English Martius
Latin Martius "of Mars"
Latin Marti(s) "Mars" + -us (adj. suffix)
Latin Martius mensis "month of Mars"

Martius has always had 31 days.

March was the original beginning of the year, and the time for the resumption of war

Mars is the Roman god of war. He is identified with the Greek god Ares.

The God of Israel has His own Calendar: we are now in the 12th month of God, Day 11, called Adar אַדָּר

Esth.3 [7] …the twelfth month, that is, the month Adar

Soon Purim

Adar 14th and 15th is Purim – we will read the book of Esther,

James 4 [15] If Yehovah will, we shall live, and do this, or that.

פּוּר Puwr {poor} also )pl.פּוּרִים ( {poo-reem'} or פֻּרִים poo-reem'}

Meaning:  Pur or Purim = "lot" or "piece" 1) lot 1a) a special feast among Jews, to celebrate their deliverance from Haman's destruction through queen Esther's heroic actions

Usage:  AV - Purim 5, Pur 3; 8 times

Today’s Topic

[27] So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

Gen.5 [3] And Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his own likeness, after his image; and called his name Seth:

Evil images

Gen.31 [19] And Laban went to shear his sheep: and Rachel had stolen the images that were her father's.

[34] Now Rachel had taken the images, and put them in the camel's furniture, and sat upon them. And Laban searched all the tent, but found them not. [35] And she said to her father, Let it not displease my lord that I cannot rise up before you; for the custom of women is upon me. And he searched, but found not the images.

Commandment

Exod.20 [4] You shall not make unto you any graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: [5] You shall not bow down yourself to them, nor serve them: for I Yehovah your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
[6] And showing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.

Exod.23 [24] You shall not bow down to their gods, nor serve them, nor do after their works: but you shall utterly overthrow them, and quite break down their images.

[25] And you shall serve Yehovah your God, and he shall bless your bread, and your water; and I will take sickness away from the midst of you.
[26] There shall nothing cast their young, nor be barren, in your land: the number of your days I will fulfill.
[27] I will send my fear before you, and will destroy all the people to whom you shall come, and I will make all your enemies turn their backs unto you.

Exod.34 [12] Take heed to yourself, lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land whither you go, lest it be for a snare in the midst of you:
[13]… you shall destroy their altars, break their images, and cut down their groves:

[14] For you shall worship no other god: for Yehovah, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God:
[15] Lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, and they go a whoring after their gods , and do sacrifice unto their gods, and one call you, and you eat of his sacrifice;
[16] And you take of their daughters unto your sons, and their daughters go a whoring after their gods, and make your sons go a whoring after their gods.
[17] You shall make you no molten gods.

Lev.26 [1] You shall make you no idols nor graven image, neither rear you up a standing image, neither shall you set up any image of stone in your land, to bow down unto it: for I am Yehovah your God.

[30] And I will destroy your high places, and cut down your images, and cast your carcasses upon the carcasses of your idols, and my soul shall abhor you.

Num.33 [52] Then you shall drive out all the inhabitants of the land from before you, and destroy all their pictures, and destroy all their molten images, and quite pluck down all their high places: [53] And you shall dispossess the inhabitants of the land, and dwell therein: for I have given you the land to possess it.

Meaning:  1) image, images (of tumors, mice, heathen gods), image, likeness (of resemblance) mere, empty, image, semblance

Deut.4 [15] Take you therefore good heed unto yourselves; for you saw no manner of similitude on the day that Yehovah spoke unto you in Horeb out of the midst of the fire:
[16] Lest you corrupt yourselves, and make you a graven image, the similitude of any figure, the likeness of male or female,
[17] The likeness of any beast that is on the earth, the likeness of any winged fowl that flies in the air,
[18] The likeness of anything that creeps on the ground, the likeness of any fish that is in the waters beneath the earth:
[19] And lest you lift up your eyes unto heaven, and when you see the sun, and the moon, and the stars, even all the host of heaven, should be driven to worship them, and serve them, which Yehovah your God hath divided unto all nations under the whole heaven.

[23] Take heed unto yourselves, lest you forget the covenant of Yehovah your God, which he made with you, and make you a graven image, or the likeness of anything, which Yehovah your God hath forbidden you.

[25] When you shall beget children, and children's children, and you shall have remained long in the land, and shall corrupt yourselves, and make a graven image, or the likeness of anything, and shall do evil in the sight of Yehovah your God, to provoke him to anger:

[26] I call heaven and earth to witness against you this day, that you shall soon utterly perish from off the land whereunto you go over Jordan to possess it; you shall not prolong your days upon it, but shall utterly be destroy.

Deut.5 [8] You shall not make you any graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the waters beneath the earth:

[9] You shall not bow down yourself unto them, nor serve them: for I Yehovah your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me,
[10] And showing mercy unto thousands of them that love me and keep my commandments.

Deut.7 [1] When Yehovah your God shall bring you into the land whither you go to possess it, and hath cast out many nations before you, the Hittites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and mightier than you;
[2] And when Yehovah your God shall deliver them before you; you shall smite them, and utterly destroy them; you shall make no covenant with them, nor show mercy unto them:
[3] Neither shall you make marriages with them; your daughter you shall not give unto his son, nor his daughter shall you take unto your son.
[4] For they will turn away your son from following me that they may serve other gods: so will the anger of Yehovah be kindled against you, and destroy you suddenly.

[5] But thus shall you deal with them; you shall destroy their altars, and break down their images, and cut down their groves, and burn their graven images with fire.

[6] For you are a holy people unto Yehovah your God: Yehovah your God hath chosen you to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth.

[25] The graven images of their gods shall you burn with fire: you shall not desire the silver or gold that is on them, nor take it unto you, lest you be snared therein: for it is an abomination to Yehovah your God.

[26] Neither shall you bring an abomination into your house, lest you be a cursed thing like it: but you shall utterly detest it, and you shall utterly abhor it; for it is a cursed thing.

Deut.9 [12] And Yehovah said unto me, Arise, get you down quickly from hence; for your people which you hast brought forth out of Egypt have corrupted themselves; they are quickly turned aside out of the way which I commanded them; they have made them a molten image.

Deut.12 [1] These are the statutes and judgments, which you shall observe to do in the land, which Yehovah God of your fathers gives you to possess it, all the days that you live upon the earth.
[2] You shall utterly destroy all the places, wherein the nations which you shall possess served their gods, upon the high mountains, and upon the hills, and under every green tree: [3] And you shall overthrow their altars, and break their pillars, and burn their groves with fire; and you shall hew down the graven images of their gods, and destroy the names of them out of that place.

Deut.16 [21] You shall not plant you a grove of any trees near unto the altar of Yehovah your God, which you shall make you.[22] Neither shall you set you up any image; which Yehovah your God hates.

Deut.27 [15] Cursed be the man that makes any graven or molten image, an abomination unto Yehovah, the work of the hands of the craftsman, and puts it in a secret place. And all the people shall answer and say, Amen.

All through the Scriptures

2 Kgs.17 [41] So these nations feared Yehovah, and served their graven images, both their children, and their children's children: as did their fathers, so do they unto this day.

Dan.3

[1] Nebuchadnezzar the king made an image of gold, whose height was threescore cubits, and the breadth thereof six cubits: he set it up in the plain of Dura, in the province of Babylon.
[2] Then Nebuchadnezzar the king sent to gather together the princes, the governors, and the captains, the judges, the treasurers, the counselors, the sheriffs, and all the rulers of the provinces, to come to the dedication of the
image which Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up.
[3] Then the princes, the governors, and captains, the judges, the treasurers, the counselors, the sheriffs, and all the rulers of the provinces, were gathered together unto the dedication of the
image that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up; and they stood before the image that Nebuchadnezzar had set up.
[4] Then an herald cried aloud, To you it is commanded, O people, nations, and languages,
[5] That at what time you hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, dulcimer, and all kinds of music, you fall down and worship the golden
image that Nebuchadnezzar the king hath set up:
[6] And
whoso falls not down and worships shall the same hour be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace.
[7] Therefore at that time, when all the people heard the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and all kinds of music, all the people, the nations, and the languages, fell down and worshipped the golden
image that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up.
[8] Wherefore at that time certain Chaldeans came near, and accused the Jews.
[9] They spoke and said to the king Nebuchadnezzar, O king, live for ever.
[10] You, O king, hast made a decree, that every man that shall hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of music, shall fall down and worship the golden
image:
[11] And whoso falls not down and worships, that he should be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace.
[12] There are certain Jews whom you hast set over the affairs of the province of Babylon, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego; these men, O king, have not regarded you: they serve not your gods, nor worship the golden
image which you hast set up.
[13] Then Nebuchadnezzar in his rage and fury commanded to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego. Then they brought these men before the king.
[14] Nebuchadnezzar spoke and said unto them, Is it true, O Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, do not you serve my gods, nor worship the golden
image which I have set up?
[15] Now if you be ready that at what time you hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of music, you fall down and worship the
image which I have made; well: but if you worship not, you shall be cast the same hour into the midst of a burning fiery furnace; and who is that God that shall deliver you out of my hands?
[16] Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, answered and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we are not careful to answer you in this matter.

[17] If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king.
[18]
But if not, be it known unto you, O king, that we will not serve your gods, nor worship the golden image which you hast set up.

[19] Then was Nebuchadnezzar full of fury, and the form of his visage was changed against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego: therefore he spoke, and commanded that they should heat the furnace one seven times more than it was was to be heated.
[20] And he commanded the most mighty men that were in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, and to cast them into the burning fiery furnace.
[21] Then these men were bound in their coats, their hosen, and their hats, and their other garments, and were cast into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.
[22] Therefore because the king's commandment was urgent, and the furnace exceeding hot, the flame of the fire slew those men that took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego.
[23] And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, fell down bound into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.
[24] Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonished, and rose up in haste, and spoke, and said unto his counselors, Did not we cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? They answered and said unto the king, True, O king.
[25] He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth
is like the Son of God.

[27] And the princes, governors, and captains, and the king's counselors, being gathered together, saw these men, upon whose bodies the fire had no power, nor was an hair of their head singed, neither were their coats changed, nor the smell of fire had passed on them.

[28] Then Nebuchadnezzar spoke, and said, Blessed be the God

[29] Therefore I make a decree, That every people, nation, and language, which speak anything amiss against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, shall be cut in pieces, and their houses shall be made a dunghill: because there is no other God that can deliver after this sort.
[30] Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, in the province of Babylon.

  צֶלֶם

Rev.13

[1] And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy.
[2] And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority.
[3] And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast.
[4] And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him?

[5] And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months.
[6] And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven.
[7] And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.
[8] And
all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.
[9] If any man has an ear, let him hear.
[10] He that leads into captivity shall go into captivity: he that kills with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints.

[11] And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spoke as a dragon.
[12] And he exercises all the power of the first beast before him, and causes the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.
[13] And he doeth great wonders, so that he makes fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men,
[14] And deceives them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that
they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.
[15] And he had power to give life unto the
image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.

[16] And he causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:
[17] And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

צַלְמָהּ

Rev.14

[9] … the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand,
[10] The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out wiyout mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:
[11]
And the smoke of their torment ascends up forever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receives the mark of his name.

[12] Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Yeshua.

Rev.15

[1] And I saw another sign in heaven, great and marvelous, seven angels having the seven last plagues; for in them is filled up the wrath of God.

[2] And I saw as it were a sea of glass mingled with fire: and them that had gotten the victory over the beast, and over his image, and over his mark, and over the number of his name, stand on the sea of glass, having the harps of God.

[3] And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvelous are your works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are your ways, you King of saints.
[4] Who shall not fear thee, O Lord, and glorify your name? for you only art holy: for all nations shall come and worship before thee; for your judgments are made manifest.

Rev.16

[1] And I heard a great voice out of the temple saying to the seven angels, Go your ways, and pour out the vials of the wrath of God upon the earth.
[2] And the first went, and poured out his vial upon the earth; and
there fell a noisome and grievous sore upon the men which had the mark of the beast and upon them which worshipped his image.

Rev.19 [20] And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.

Rev.20 [4] And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Yeshua, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands…
