  שַׁבָּת שָׁלוֹם

Today is August 9, 2025

August - Augustus Caesar's month

Latin Augustus "Augustus"
Latin Augustus
mensis "month of Augustus"
Latin
sextilis mensis "sixth month" now the 8th month

Sextilis had 30 days, until Numa when it - had 29 days, until Julius when it became 31 days long.

Augustus Caesar clarified and completed the calendar reform of Julius Caesar. In the process, he also renamed this month after himself.

God’s calendar - We are now the fifth month of God, day 14 - which has no scriptural name

Av is Not in the bible - This is Not the name of the 5th month as Judaism states.

The Word of God - Torah, Prophets and Writings (psalms)

Ta Na Kk is an acronym for:

T = Torah (law, teachings) - first 5 books of Moses

N = Navieem or prophets (pl. sounds like - Na vi eem)

K = Ke'tuvim or writings (psalms etc.)

At this point, there were neither gospels nor letters.

Today’s topic:

Life is short

Gen.2 [7] And the Yehovah God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

Gen.3 [19] in the sweat of thy face shall you eat bread, till you return unto the ground; for out of it were you taken: for dust you are, and unto dust shall you return.

Gen.18 [27] … Abraham answered and said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord, which am but dust and ashes…

Pss.103 [14] For He, God knows our frame; he remembers that we are dust.

Ecc.3 [20] All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again.

Ecc.12 [7] Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.

Dan.12 [2] … many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.

Jas.4 [14] Whereas you know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor, that appears for a little time, and then vanishes away. [15] For that you ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.

Job knew:

Job 14 [10] … men die, and waste away: yea, man gives up the ghost, and where is he? [11] As the waters fail from the sea, and the flood decays and dries up:

[12] So man lies down, and raises not: until the heavens be no more, they shall not awake, nor be raised out of their sleep.

[13] O that You God would  hide me in the grave, that You God would keep me secretuntil Your wrath be past, that You God would appoint me a set time, and remember me!

[14] If a man die, shall he live again? All the days of my appointed time will I wait, until my change come.

John 11 [25] Yeshua said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he was dead, yet shall he live: [26] And whosoever lives and believes in me shall never die.

Do you believe this?

John 5 [21] For as the Father raises up the dead, and quickens them; even so the Son quickens whom he will.

Rev.20 [13] … the sea gave up the dead who were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead who were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.[14] … death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. [15] And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

What the Scriptures say of our time here on earth:

Pss.90

[10] The days of our years are threescore years and ten 70; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years 80, yet is their strength labor and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away. Die…

Seem like people live longer than 80 now…

Job 7 [7] O remember that my life is wind

[8] The eye of him that hath seen me shall see me no more: your eyes are upon me, and I am not.

[9] As the cloud is consumed and vanishes away: so he that goes down to the grave shall come up no more.

[10] He shall return no more to his house; neither shall his place know him any more

Job 8 [9] For we are but of yesterday, and know nothing, because our days upon earth are a shadow…

Pss.90 [9] For all our days are passed away in your wrath: we spend our years as a tale that is told.

[12] So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.

[14] O satisfy us early with your mercy; that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.

Jas. 4 [13] Go to now, you that say, today or tomorrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: [14] Whereas you know not what shall be on the morrow.

For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time, and then vanishes away.

Matt.6 - Yeshua said:

[25] Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what you shall eat, or what you shall drink; nor yet for your body, what you shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?

[26] Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much better than they?

[27] Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?

[28] And why take you thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:

[29] And yet I say unto you, that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

[30] Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?

[31] Therefore take no thought, saying, what shall we eat? Or, what shall we drink? Or, Wherewithal shall we be cloth?

[32] (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek :) for your heavenly Father knows that you have need of all these things.

[33] But seek you first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

[34] Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

Prov.15 [24] the way of life is above to the wise that he may depart from hell beneath.

Col.3 - Saul said:

[1] If you then be raised with Messiah, seek those things which are above, where Messiah sits on the right hand of God.
[2] Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.

[3] For you are dead, and your life is hid with Messiah in God.

[4] When Messiah, who is our life, shall appear, then shall you also appear with him in glory.

1Chr.29:15 … our days on the earth are as a shadow…

Heb.9 [27]… as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment…

Let’s review of some of the book of Ecclesiastes:

Vanity of vanities - A primitive root; to be vain in act, word, or expectation; specifically to lead astray: - be (become, make) vain.

Ecc. 1:2 - Vanity of vanities, says the Preacher / Kohelethvanity of vanities, all is vanity.

[4] One generation passes away, and another generation comes: but the earth (seems like it) abides forever.

[11] There is no remembrance of former things; neither shall there be any remembrance of things that are to come with those that shall come after.

[12] I the Preacher was king over Israel in Jerusalem.  Solomon

[13] And I gave my heart to seek and search out by wisdom concerning all things that are done under heaven: this sore travail hath God given to the sons of man to be exercised therewith.

[14] I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and, behold, all is vanity and vexation of spirit.

[15] That which is crooked cannot be made straight: and that which is wanting cannot be numbered.

[16] I communed with mine own heart, saying, Lo, I am come to great estate, and have gotten more wisdom than all they that have been before me in Jerusalem: yea, my heart had great experience of wisdom and knowledge.

[17] And I gave my heart to know wisdom, and to know madness and folly: I perceived that this also is vexation of spirit.

[18] For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increases knowledge increases sorrow.

Ecclesiastes 2:

[15] Then said I in my heart, as it happens to the fool, so it happens even to me; and why was I then more wise? Then I said in my heart, that this also is vanity.

[16] For there is no remembrance of the wise more than of the fool for ever; seeing that which now is in the days to come shall all be forgotten.

And how dies the wise man, as the fool…

[17] Therefore I hated life; because the work that is wrought under the sun is grievous unto me: for all is vanity and vexation of spirit.

[18] Yea, I hated all my labor which I had taken under the sun: because I should leave it unto the man that shall be after me.

[19] And who knows whether he shall be a wise man or a fool? Yet shall he have rule over all my labor wherein I have labored, and wherein I have showed myself wise under the sun. This is also vanity.

[24] There is nothing better for a man, than that he should eat and drink, and that he should make his soul enjoy good in his labor. This also I saw, that it was from the hand of God.

[26] For God gives to a man that is good in his sight wisdom, and knowledge, and joy:

but to the sinner he gives travail, to gather and to heap up, that he may give to him that is good before God. This also is vanity and vexation of spirit.

Ecc.3 [1] to everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:

[2] A time to be born, and a time to die… and all the rest J

[18] I said in mine heart concerning the estate of the sons of men that God might manifest them, and that they might see that they themselves are beasts.

[19] For that which befalls the sons of men befalls beasts; even one thing befalls them: as the one dies, so dies the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast: for all is vanity.

[20] All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again.

[21] Who knows the spirit of man that goes upward, and the spirit of the beast that gosh downward to the earth?

[22] Wherefore I perceive that there is nothing better, than that a man should rejoice in his own works; for that is his portion: for who shall bring him to see what shall be after him?

Ecc.6 [1] There is an evil which I have seen under the sun, and it is common among men:
[2] A man to whom God hath given riches, wealth, and honor, so that he wants nothing for his soul of all that he desire, yet God gives him not power to eat thereof, but a stranger eats it:
this is vanity, and it is an evil disease.

[3] If a man beget an hundred children, and live many years, so that the days of his years be many, and his soul be not filled with good, and also that he have no burial; I say, that an untimely birth is better than he.

[4] For he comes in with vanity, and departs in darkness, and his name shall be covered with darkness.

[5] Moreover he hath not seen the sun, nor known any thing: this hath more rest than the other.

[6] Yea, though he lives a thousand years twice told, yet hath he seen no good: do not all go to one place? – The grave

Ecc.7 [1] A good name is better than precious ointment; and the day of death than the day of one's birth.

[2] It is better to go to the house of mourning, than to go to the house of feasting: for that is the end of all men; and the living will lay it to his heart.

[18] It is good that you should take hold of this; yea, also from this withdraw not your hand: for he that fears God shall come forth of them all.

Ecc.8 [1] Who is as the wise man? And who knows the interpretation of a thing? A man's wisdom makes his face to shine, and the boldness of his face shall be changed.

[2] I counsel you to keep the king's commandment, and that in regard of the oath of God.

[3] Be not hasty to go out of his sight: stand not in an evil thing; for he doeth whatsoever pleases him.

[4] Where the word of a king is, there is power: and who may say unto him, what are you doing?

[5] Whoso keeps the commandment shall feel no evil thing: and a wise man's heart discerns both time and judgment.

[6] Because to every purpose there is time and judgment, therefore the misery of man is great upon him.

[7] For he knows not that which shall be: for who can tell him when it shall be?

[8] There is no man that hath power over the spirit to retain the spirit; neither hath he power in the day of death: and there is no discharge in that war; neither shall wickedness deliver those that are given to it.

[10] And so I saw the wicked buried, who had come and gone from the place of the holy, and they were forgotten in the city where they had so done: this is also vanity.

[11] Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.

[12] Though a sinner do evil an hundred times, and his days be prolonged,

Yet surely I know that it shall be well with them that fear God, which fear before him:

[13] But it shall not be well with the wicked; neither shall he prolong his days, which are as a shadow; because he fears not before God.

[14] There is a vanity which is done upon the earth; that there be just men, unto whom it happens according to the work of the wicked; again, there be wicked men, to whom it happenes  according to the work of the righteous: I said that this also is vanity.

[15] Then I commended mirth, because a man hath no better thing under the sun, than to eat, and to drink, and to be merry: for that shall abide with him of his labor the days of his life, which God gives him under the sun.

Ecc. 9: [2] All things come alike to all: there is one event to the righteous, and to the wicked; to the good and to the clean, and to the unclean; to him that sacrifices, and to him that sacrifices not: as is the good, so is the sinner; and he that swears, as he that fears an oath.

[4] For to him that is joined to all the living there is hope: for a living dog is better than a dead lion.

[5] For the living knows that they shall die: but the dead know not anything, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.

[6] Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion forever in anything that is done under the sun.

[7] Go your way, eat your bread with joy, and drink your wine with a merry heart; for God now accepts your works.

[8] Let your garments be always white; and let your head lack no ointment.

[9] Live joyfully with the wife whom you love all the days of the life of your vanity, which he hath given you under the sun, all the days of your vanity: for that is your portion in this life, and in your labor which you take under the sun.

**[10] Whatsoever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither you go.

[11] I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favor to men of skill; but time and chance happens to them all.

[12] For man also knows not his time: As the fishes that are taken in an evil net, and as the birds that are caught in the snare; so are the sons of men snared in an evil time, when it falls suddenly upon them.

Ecc. 12 [1] Remember now your Creator in the days of your youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when you shall say, I have no pleasure in them;
[2] While the sun, or the light, or the moon, or the stars, be not darkened, nor the clouds return after the rain:

[3] In the day when the keepers of the house shall tremble, and the strong men shall bow themselves, and the grinders cease because they are few, and those that look out of the windows be darkened,

[4] And the doors shall be shut in the streets, when the sound of the grinding is low, and he shall rise up at the voice of the bird, and all the daughters of music shall be brought low;

[5] Also when they shall be afraid of that, which is high, and fears shall be in the way, and the almond tree shall flourish, and the grasshopper shall be a burden, and desire shall fail:

Because man goes to his long home, and the mourners go about the streets:

[6] Or ever the silver cord be loosed, or the golden bowl be broken, or the pitcher be broken at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the cistern.

[7] Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.

[8] Vanity of vanities, says the preacher; all is vanity.

[9] And moreover, because the preacher was wise, he still taught the people knowledge; yea, he gave good heed, and sought out, and set in order many proverbs.

[10] The preacher sought to find out acceptable words: and that which was written was upright, even words of truth.

[11] The words of the wise are as goads, and as nails fastened by the masters of assemblies, which are given from one shepherd.

[12] And further, by these, my son,(and daughter) be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh.

[13] Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
[14] For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it is good, or whether it is evil.

Beware of sin!

Ecc.9 [18] Wisdom is better than weapons of war: but one sinner destroys much good.

Num. 32 [23] …you have sinned against Yehovah: and be sure your sin will find you out.

1 John.3 [4] whosoever commits sin transgresses also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.

John.8 [34] Yeshua answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you; whosoever commits sin is the servant of sin.

1 John.3 [8] He that commits sin is of the devil; for the devil sins from the beginning. All unrighteousness is sin

In closing:

We have a short time here on earth.

We better remember the conclusion of the whole matter:

Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
