Messiah in Isaiah 11
Midrash Rabbah - Genesis XCVII
Gen. 901
Finally, of the royal Messiah it is written, And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord (Isa. XI, 2).
Isa.11
[1] And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of
Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots:
[2] And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and
understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and
of the fear of the LORD;
[3]
And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the LORD: and he shall
not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of
his ears:
[4] But with righteousness shall
he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he
shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his
lips shall he slay the wicked.
[5] And righteousness shall
be the girdle of his loins, and faithfulness the girdle of his reins.
[6] The wolf also shall dwell
with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and
the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.
[7] And the cow and the bear
shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat
straw like the ox.
[8] And the sucking child shall
play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the
cockatrice' den.
[9] They shall not hurt nor
destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge
of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.
[10] And in that day there shall
be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall
the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious.
Midrash Rabbah - Numbers XIII:11
Num. 522
The Messiah? Because it is written, And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him; the spirit of wisdom and understanding (Isa. XI, 2)
Midrash Rabbah - Ruth VII:2
The Messiah, as it is said, And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, etc. (Isa. XI, 2).
Soncino Zohar, Bereshith, Section 1, Page 103b
Then men will obtain a knowledge of the precious supernal wisdom of which hitherto they wist not, as it is written, And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord (Is. XI, 2). All these are destined to rest on this lower door which is the tent door; all too will rest upon the Messiah in order that he may judge the world, as it is written, But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, etc. (Ibid. 4)
Talmud - Mas. Sanhedrin 93b
The Messiah-as it is written, And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge of the fear of the Lord. And shall make him of quick understanding [wa-hariho] in the fear of the Lord.12 R. Alexandri said: This teaches that he loaded him with good deeds and suffering as a mill[is laden].13 Raba said: He smells [a man] and judges,14 as it is written, and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears, yet with righteousness shall he judge the poor.15

Luke.4[
14] And Yeshua / Jesus returned
in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through
all the region round about.
[15] And he taught in their
synagogues, being glorified of all.
[16] And he came to Nazareth,
where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue
on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.
[17] And there was delivered unto him the
book of the prophet Esaias
. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written,
[18] The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath
anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted,
to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind,
to set at liberty them that are bruised,
[19] To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
[20] And he
closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the
eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him.
[21] And he began to say unto
them, This day is this scripture fulfilled
in your ears.
