------------
Why are we here today?
The 4th Commandment
We read from law and the prophets every Sabbath
60 times in the Gospels and letters it uses the word Sabbath
Acts 13 [13] Now when Paul and his company loosed from Paphos, they came to Perga in Pamphylia: and John departing from them returned to Jerusalem.[14] But when they departed from Perga, they came to Antioch in Pisidia, and went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and sat down.[15] And after the reading of the law and the prophets the rulers of the synagogue sent unto them, saying, Ye men and brethren, if ye have any word of exhortation for the people, say on.
[27] For they that dwell at Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they knew him not, nor yet the voices of the prophets which are read every sabbath day, they have fulfilled them in condemning him.
[42] And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next sabbath.
[44]And the next sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of God
Acts 15 [21] For Moses of old time hath in every city them that preach him, being read in the synagogues every sabbath day.
Luke 4 [16] And he, Yeshua / Jesus came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read.[17] And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias.
Exod. 31 [13] Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying,
Verily my sabbaths ye shall keep : for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that ye may know that I am the LORD that doth sanctify you.
[16] Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant . [17] It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.
Ezek. 20 [12] Moreover also I gave them my sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I am the LORD that sanctify them.
[20] And hallow my sabbaths; and they shall be a sign between me and you, that ye may know that I am the LORD your God.
Luke.23 [56] And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment.
Matt.24 [20] But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day:

"No other God"
The first Commandment
Exod.
20 [1] And God spake all these words, saying,
[2] I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out
of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
[3]
Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
Exod. 34 [14] For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God:
Deut. 32[39] See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal: neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand.[40] For I lift up my hand to heaven, and say, I live for ever.
Isa. 43 [10] Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.
Isa. 44 [6] Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God. [7] And who, as I, shall call, and shall declare it, and set it in order for me, since I appointed the ancient people? and the things that are coming, and shall come, let them shew unto them.[8] Fear ye not, neither be afraid: have not I told thee from that time, and have declared it? ye are even my witnesses. Is there a God beside me? yea, there is no God; I know not any.
Isa. 45 [5] I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me:
[14] Thus saith the LORD, The labour of Egypt, and merchandise of Ethiopia and of the Sabeans, men of stature, shall come over unto thee, and they shall be thine: they shall come after thee; in chains they shall come over, and they shall fall down unto thee, they shall make supplication unto thee, saying, Surely God is in thee; and there is none else, there is no God.
[21] Tell ye, and bring them near; yea, let them take counsel together: who hath declared this from ancient time? who hath told it from that time? have not I the LORD? and there is no God else beside me; a just God and a Saviour; there is none beside me.
Hos. 13 [4] Yet I am the LORD thy God from the land of Egypt, and thou shalt know no god but me: for there is no saviour beside me.
------------------
I will kindle a fire in the houses of the gods of Egypt
Lev. 24 [16] And he that blasphemeth the name of the LORD, he shall surely be put to death, and all the congregation shall certainly stone him: as well the stranger, as he that is born in the land, when he blasphemeth the name of the LORD, shall be put to death.
Exod. 12 [12] For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the LORD.
Jer. 43 [12] And I will kindle a fire in the houses of the gods of Egypt; and he shall burn them, and carry them away captives: and he shall array himself with the land of Egypt, as a shepherd putteth on his garment; and he shall go forth from thence in peace
God's power triumphed over Egypt's gods.
The plagues demonstrate how powerless Egypt was , a world-leading nation, against the power of our God.

"There is none like our God"
Exod. 9[14] For I will at this time send all my plagues upon thine heart, and upon thy servants, and upon thy people; that thou mayest know that there is none like me in all the earth.
The nations are nothing to God
Isa.40
[1] Comfort ye, comfort ye
my people, saith your God.
[2] Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her
warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned: for she hath received
of the LORD's hand double for all her sins.
[3] The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way
of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.
[4] Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be
made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain:
[5] And the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see
it together: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.
[6] The voice said, Cry. And he said, What shall I cry? All flesh is
grass, and all the goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field:
[7] The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: because the spirit of the
LORD bloweth upon it: surely the people is grass.
[8] The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God
shall stand for ever.
[9] O Zion, that bringest good tidings, get thee up into the high
mountain; O Jerusalem, that bringest good tidings, lift up thy voice with
strength; lift it up, be not afraid; say unto the cities of Judah, Behold your
God!
[10] Behold, the Lord GOD will come with strong hand, and his arm shall
rule for him: behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him.
[11] He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs
with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are
with young.
[12] Who hath
measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and meted out heaven with the
span, and comprehended the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the
mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance?
[13] Who hath directed the Spirit of the LORD, or being his counseller hath
taught him?
[14] With whom took he counsel, and who instructed him, and taught him in the
path of judgment, and taught him knowledge, and shewed to him the way of
understanding?
[15] Behold, the nations are as a drop of a bucket, and
are counted as the small dust of the balance: behold, he taketh up the isles as
a very little thing.
[16] And Lebanon is not sufficient to burn, nor the beasts thereof
sufficient for a burnt offering.
[17] All nations before him are as nothing; and they
are counted to him less than nothing, and vanity.
[18] To whom then will ye liken God? or what likeness will ye compare
unto him?
[19] The workman melteth a graven image, and the goldsmith spreadeth it over
with gold, and casteth silver chains.
[20] He that is so impoverished that he hath no oblation chooseth a tree that
will not rot; he seeketh unto him a cunning workman to prepare a graven image,
that shall not be moved.
[21] Have ye not known? Have ye not heard? hath it
not been told you from the beginning? have ye not understood from the
foundations of the earth?
[22] It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants
thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and
spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:
[23] That bringeth the princes to nothing; he maketh the judges of the earth as
vanity.
[24] Yea, they shall not be planted; yea, they shall not be sown: yea, their stock shall not take root in the earth: and he shall also blow upon them, and they shall wither, and the whirlwind shall take them away as stubble.
[25] To whom then will ye liken me, or shall I be equal? saith the Holy One.
[26] Lift up your eyes on
high, and behold who hath created these things, that bringeth out their host by
number: he calleth them all by names by the greatness of his might, for that he
is strong in power; not one faileth.
[27] Why sayest thou, O Jacob, and speakest, O Israel, My way is hid
from the LORD, and my judgment is passed over from my God?
[28] Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that
the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth
not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.
[29] He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.
[30] Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:
[31] But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles;
they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

False feasts lead to false gods
Hos.13[ 2] And now they sin more and more, and have made them molten images of their silver, and idols according to their own understanding, all of it the work of the craftsmen : they say of them, Let the men that sacrifice kiss the calves.

Beware that people don't lead you to worship another god
The Second Commandment
Exod.20
[4] Thou shalt
not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in
heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under
the earth:
[5] Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy
God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children
unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
[6] And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my
commandments.
A False Feast leads to another god and is sin
People will tell you another god brought you out of the land of Egypt
Exod. 32 one calf
[1] And when the people
saw that Moses delayed to come down out of the mount, the people gathered
themselves together unto Aaron, and said unto him, Up, make us gods, which
shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of
the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him.
[2] And Aaron said unto them, Break off the golden earrings, which
are in the ears of your wives, of your sons , and of your daughters, and bring them unto
me.
[3] And all the people brake off the golden earrings which were in their
ears, and brought them unto Aaron.
[4] And he received them at their hand, and fashioned it with a graving tool, after he had made it a molten calf : and they said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt. [5 ] And when Aaron saw it, he built an altar before it; and Aaron made proclamation, and said, To morrow is a feast to the LORD .
[6] And they rose up early on the morrow, and offered burnt offerings, and brought peace offerings; and the people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to play.
[7] And the LORD said unto
Moses, Go, get thee down; for thy people, which thou broughtest out of the land
of Egypt, have corrupted themselves:
[8] They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded
them: they have made them a molten calf, and
have worshipped it, and have sacrificed thereunto, and said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which have brought thee up out
of the land of Egypt.
[9] And the LORD said unto
Moses, I have seen this people, and, behold, it is a stiffnecked people:
[10] Now therefore let me alone, that my wrath may wax hot against them,
and that I may consume them: and I will make of thee a great nation.
[11] And Moses besought the LORD his God, and said, LORD, why doth thy
wrath wax hot against thy people, which thou hast brought forth out of the land
of Egypt with great power, and with a mighty hand?
[12] Wherefore should the Egyptians speak, and say, For mischief did he
bring them out, to slay them in the mountains, and to consume them from the
face of the earth? Turn from thy fierce wrath, and repent of this evil against
thy people.
[13] Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, thy servants, to whom thou
swarest by thine own self, and saidst unto them, I will multiply your seed as
the stars of heaven, and all this land that I have spoken of will I give unto
your seed, and they shall inherit it for ever.
[14] And the LORD repented of the evil which he thought to do unto his
people.
[15] And Moses turned, and went down from the mount, and the two tables
of the testimony were in his hand: the tables were written on both their sides;
on the one side and on the other were they written.
[16] And the tables were the work of God, and the writing was the
writing of God, graven upon the tables.
[17] And when Joshua heard the noise of the people as they shouted, he
said unto Moses, There is a noise of war in the camp.
[18] And he said, It is not the voice of them that shout for mastery,
neither is it the voice of them that cry for being overcome: but the noise of
them that sing do I hear.
[19] And it came to pass, as soon as he came nigh unto the camp, that he saw the calf, and the dancing : and Moses' anger waxed hot, and he cast the tables
out of his hands, and brake them beneath the mount.
[20] And he took the calf which they had
made, and burnt it in the fire, and ground it to powder, and strawed it upon
the water, and made the children of Israel drink of it.
[21] And Moses said unto
Aaron, What did this people unto thee, that thou hast brought so great a sin upon them?
[22] And Aaron said, Let not the anger of my lord wax hot: thou knowest
the people, that they are set on mischief.
[23] For they said unto me, Make us gods, which shall go
before us: for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the
land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him.
[24] And I said unto them, Whosoever hath any gold, let them break it off. So they gave it me: then I cast it into the fire, and there came out this calf.
[25] And when Moses saw that the people were naked ; ( for Aaron had made them naked unto their shame among their enemies: )
[26] Then Moses stood in
the gate of the camp, and said, Who is on the LORD's
side? let him come unto me. And all the sons of Levi gathered
themselves together unto him.
[27] And he said unto them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Put every
man his sword by his side, and go in and out from gate to gate throughout the
camp, and slay every man his brother, and every man his companion, and every
man his neighbour.
[28] And the children of Levi did according to the word of Moses: and
there fell of the people that day about three thousand men.
[29] For Moses had said, Consecrate yourselves to day to the LORD,
even every man upon his son, and upon his brother; that he may bestow upon you
a blessing this day.
[30] And it came to pass on the morrow, that Moses said unto the people,
Ye have sinned a great sin : and now I
will go up unto the LORD; peradventure I shall make an atonement for your sin.
[31] And Moses returned unto the LORD, and said, Oh, this people
have sinned a great sin, and have made
them gods of gold.
[32] Yet now, if thou wilt forgive their sin--;
and if not, blot me, I pray thee, out of thy book which thou hast written.
[33] And the LORD said unto Moses
, Whosoever hath sinned against me, him will
I blot out of my book.
[34] Therefore now go, lead the people unto the place of which I have
spoken unto thee: behold, mine Angel shall go before thee: nevertheless in the
day when I visit I will visit their sin
upon them.
[35] And the LORD plagued the people, because
they made the calf , which Aaron made.

1Kgs. 12 two calves - sin
[1 ] And
Rehoboam went to Shechem: for all Israel were come to Shechem to make him king.
[2
] And it came to pass, when Jeroboam the son of
Nebat, who was yet in Egypt, heard of it, (for he was fled from the presence of
king Solomon, and Jeroboam dwelt in Egypt;)
[3 ] That they sent and called him. And
Jeroboam and all the congregation of Israel came, and spake unto Rehoboam,
saying,
[4 ] Thy father made our yoke grievous:
now therefore make thou the grievous service of thy father, and his heavy yoke
which he put upon us, lighter, and we will serve thee.
[5 ] And he said unto them, Depart yet
for three days, then come again to me. And the people departed.
[6 ] And king Rehoboam consulted with the old men , that stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, and said, How
do ye advise that I may answer this people?
[7 ] And they spake unto him, saying,
If thou wilt be a servant unto this people this day, and wilt serve them, and
answer them, and speak good words to them, then they will be thy servants for
ever.
[8 ] But he forsook the counsel of the old men, which they had given him, and consulted with the young men that were grown up with him, and which stood before him:
[9 ] And he said unto them, What
counsel give ye that we may answer this people, who have spoken to me, saying,
Make the yoke which thy father did put upon us lighter?
[10 ] And the young men that were
grown up with him spake unto him, saying, Thus shalt thou speak unto this
people that spake unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but make
thou it lighter unto us; thus shalt thou say unto them, My little finger shall
be thicker than my father's loins.
[11 ] And now whereas my father did
lade you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke: my father hath chastised
you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.
[12 ] So Jeroboam and all the people
came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king had appointed, saying, Come to me
again the third day.
[13 ] And the king answered the people
roughly, and forsook the old men's counsel that they gave him;
[14 ] And spake to them after the counsel of the young men ,
saying, My father made your yoke heavy, and I will add to your yoke: my father
also chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.
[15 ] Wherefore the king hearkened not
unto the people; for the cause was from the LORD, that he might perform his
saying, which the LORD spake by Ahijah the Shilonite unto Jeroboam the son of
Nebat.
[16 ] So when all Israel saw that the
king hearkened not unto them, the people answered the king, saying, What
portion have we in David? neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse: to
your tents, O Israel: now see to thine own house, David. So Israel departed
unto their tents.
[17 ] But as for the children of Israel
which dwelt in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them.
[18 ] Then king Rehoboam sent Adoram,
who was over the tribute; and all Israel stoned him with stones, that he died.
Therefore king Rehoboam made speed to get him up to his chariot, to flee to
Jerusalem.
[19 ] So Israel rebelled against the
house of David unto this day.
[20 ] And it came to pass, when all
Israel heard that Jeroboam was come again, that they sent and called him unto
the congregation, and made him king over all Israel: there was none that
followed the house of David, but the tribe of Judah only.
[21 ] And when Rehoboam was come to
Jerusalem, he assembled all the house of Judah, with the tribe of Benjamin, an
hundred and fourscore thousand chosen men, which were warriors, to fight
against the house of Israel, to bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam the son of
Solomon.
[22 ] But the word of God came unto
Shemaiah the man of God, saying,
[23 ] Speak unto Rehoboam, the son of
Solomon, king of Judah, and unto all the house of Judah and Benjamin, and to
the remnant of the people, saying,
[24 ] Thus saith the LORD, Ye shall not
go up, nor fight against your brethren the children of Israel: return every man
to his house; for this thing is from me. They hearkened therefore to the word
of the LORD, and returned to depart, according to the word of the LORD.
[25 ] Then Jeroboam
built Shechem in mount Ephraim, and dwelt therein; and went out from thence,
and built Penuel.
[26
] And Jeroboam said in his heart, Now shall the
kingdom return to the house of David:
[27 ] If this people go up to do sacrifice in the house of the LORD at Jerusalem , then shall the heart of
this people turn again unto their lord, even unto Rehoboam king of Judah, and
they shall kill me, and go again to Rehoboam king of Judah.
-------------
[28
] Whereupon the
king took counsel, and made two calves of
gold , and said unto them, It is too
much for you to go up to Jerusalem: behold thy
gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of
the land of Egypt.
[29 ] And he set the one in Bethel, and the other put he in Dan.
[30 ] And this
thing became a sin
: for the people
went to worship before the one, even unto Dan .
[31 ] And he made an house of high
places, and made priests of the lowest of the people, which were not of the
sons of Levi.
[32 ] And Jeroboam
ordained a feast in the eighth month, on the fifteenth day of the month, like
unto the feast that is in Judah ( feast of Tabernacles -
7th month ), and he offered upon the altar. So did he in Bethel, sacrificing
unto the calves that he had made: and he placed in Bethel the priests of
the high places which he had made.
[33
] So he offered upon the altar which he had made in
Bethel the fifteenth day of the eighth month, even in the month which he had devised of his own heart;
and ordained a feast unto the children of Israel: and he offered upon the
altar, and burnt incense.
Other gods - calves - sin
2Kgs.10[ 29] Howbeit from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin, Jehu departed not from after them, to wit, the golden calves that were in Bethel, and that were in Dan.
2Kgs.17[ 16] And they left all the commandments of the LORD their God, and made them molten images, even two calves, and made a grove, and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served Baal.
2Chr.11[ 14] For the Levites left their suburbs and their possession, and came to Judah and Jerusalem: for Jeroboam and his sons had cast them off from executing the priest's office unto the LORD:[ 15] And he ordained him priests for the high places, and for the devils, and for the calves which he had made .
2Chr.13[ 8] And now ye think to withstand the kingdom of the LORD in the hand of the sons of David; and ye be a great multitude, and there are with you golden calves, which Jeroboam made you for gods.

in the law, and the firstlings of our herds and of our flocks, to bring to the
house of our God, unto the priests that minister in the house of our God:
[37] And that we should bring the firstfruits of our dough, and our
offerings, and the fruit of all manner of trees, of wine and of oil, unto the
priests, to the chambers of the house of our God; and the tithes of our ground
unto the Levites, that the same Levites might have the tithes in all the cities
of our tillage.
[38] And the priest the son of Aaron shall be with the Levites, when the
Levites take tithes: and the Levites shall bring up the tithe of the tithes
unto the house of our God, to the chambers, into the treasure house.
[39] For the children of Israel and the children of Levi shall bring the
offering of the corn, of the new wine, and the oil, unto the chambers, where
are the vessels of the sanctuary, and the priests that minister, and the
porters, and the singers: and we will not forsake the house of our God.
Neh. 13 [3 ] Now it came to pass, when they had heard the law, that they separated from Israel all the mixed multitude.

Jer. 10
[1]
Hear ye the word which the LORD speaketh unto you, O
house of Israel:
[2]
Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the
heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen
are dismayed at them.
[3] For the customs of the people are vain :
for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe.[4] They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.[5 ] They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good.

2 Cor. 6
[14] Be ye not
unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath
righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with
darkness?
[15] And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that
believeth with an infidel?
[16] And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the
temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in
them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
[17] Wherefore come out from among them, ( like Egypt ) and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and
touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,
[18] And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters,
saith the Lord Almighty.
Please teach your children the ways of the Lord. Speak of God's greatness and how he brought our ancestors out of the land of Egypt.
Exod. 10 [2] And that thou mayest tell in the ears of thy son, and of thy son's son, what things I have wrought in Egypt, and my signs which I have done among them; that ye may know how that I am the LORD.
Deut. 6
[1] Now these are the
commandments, the statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD your God
commanded to teach you, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go to
possess it:
[2] That thou mightest fear the LORD thy God, to
keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy
son, and thy son's son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be
prolonged.
[3] Hear therefore, O Israel, and observe to do it; that it may be well
with thee, and that ye may increase mightily, as the LORD God of thy fathers
hath promised thee, in the land that floweth with milk and honey.
[4] Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:
[5] And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with
all thy soul, and with all thy might.
[6] And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine
heart:
[7] And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy
children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when
thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
[8] And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and
they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes.
[9] And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy
gates.
[10] And it shall be, when the LORD thy God shall have brought thee into
the land which he sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob,
to give thee great and goodly cities, which thou buildedst not,
[11] And houses full of all good things, which thou filledst not, and
wells digged, which thou diggedst not, vineyards and olive trees, which thou
plantedst not; when thou shalt have eaten and be full;
[12] Then beware lest thou forget the LORD, which brought thee forth out
of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.
[13] Thou shalt fear the LORD thy God, and serve him, and shalt swear by
his name.
[14] Ye shall not go after other gods, of the gods of the people which
are round about you;
[15] (For the LORD thy God is a jealous God among you) lest the anger of
the LORD thy God be kindled against thee, and destroy thee from off the face of
the earth.
[16] Ye shall not tempt the LORD your God, as ye tempted him in Massah.
[17] Ye shall diligently keep the commandments of the LORD your God, and
his testimonies, and his statutes, which he hath commanded thee.
[18] And thou shalt do that which is right and good in the sight of the
LORD: that it may be well with thee, and that thou mayest go in and possess the
good land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers,
[19] To cast out all thine enemies from before thee, as the LORD hath
spoken.
[20] And when thy son asketh thee in time to come, saying, What mean the
testimonies, and the statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD our God hath
commanded you?
[21] Then thou shalt say unto thy son, We were
Pharaoh's bondmen in Egypt; and the LORD brought us out of Egypt with a mighty
hand:
[22] And the LORD shewed signs and wonders, great and sore, upon Egypt, upon
Pharaoh, and upon all his household, before our eyes:
[23] And he brought us out from thence, that he might bring us in, to give us
the land which he sware unto our fathers.
[24] And the LORD commanded us to do all these statutes, to
fear the LORD our God, for our good always, that he might preserve us alive, as
it is at this day.
[25] And it shall be our righteousness, if we observe to do all
these commandments before the LORD our God, as he hath commanded us.
