Shabbat Shalom
שַׁבָּת
שָׁלוֹם
Today, we sadly use the Gregorian calendar from Pope Gregory; from
the 1500’s.
Today is August 19, 2023
August - Augustus Caesar's month
Latin Augustus "Augustus"
Latin Augustus mensis "month
of Augustus"
Latin sextilis mensis "sixth month"
Sextilis had
30 days, until Numa when
it had 29 days, until Julius when it became 31 days long.
Augustus Caesar clarified and completed the calendar reform of
Julius Caesar. In the process, he also renamed this month after himself.
We are now in the 6th month of
God called Elul אֱלוּל
Neh.6 [15] So the wall was finished in the
twenty and fifth day of the month Elul, in fifty and two days
Neh.7 [73] So the priests, and the Levites, and the porters, and
the singers, and some of the people, and the Nethinims, and all Israel, dwelt in their cities;
and when the seventh month came, the children of Israel were in
their cities.
Today’s topic:
The Almighty Holy God
אֵל
שַׁדַּי (Gen. 17:1)
God Almighty

שַׁדַּי Shaddai = shad-dah'-ei
Meaning: 1) almighty,
most powerful
1a) Shaddai, the Almighty (of God)
Usage: AV - Almighty 48; 48 times
Gen.17 [1] And when
Abram was ninety years old and nine, Yehovah appeared
to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk
before me, and be you perfect.
Gen.28 [3] And God Almighty bless
you, and make you fruitful, and multiply you, that you mayest
be a multitude of people; [4] And give you the blessing of
Abraham, to you, and to your seed with you; that you mayest
inherit the land wherein you art a stranger, which
God gave unto Abraham.
Gen.35 [11] And God said unto him, I am God Almighty:
be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a company of nations shall be of you,
and kings shall come out of your loins; [12] And the land which
I gave Abraham and Isaac, to you I will give it, and to your seed after you
will I give the land.
Gen.43 [14] And God Almighty give
you mercy before the man, that he may send away your other brother, and
Benjamin. If I be bereaved of my children, I am bereaved.
Gen.48 [3] And Jacob said unto Joseph, God Almighty appeared
unto me at Luz in the land of Canaan, and blessed me, [4]
And said unto me, Behold, I will make you fruitful, and multiply you, and I
will make of you a multitude of people; and will give this land to your seed
after you for an everlasting possession.
Gen.49 [22]
Joseph is a fruitful bough, even a fruitful bough by a well; whose branches run
over the wall:
[23] The archers have sorely grieved him, and shot at him, and hated
him:
[24] But his bow abode in strength, and the arms of his hands were made
strong by the hands of the mighty God of Jacob; (from thence is the shepherd,
the stone of Israel:) [25] Even by the
God of your father, who shall help you; and by the Almighty, who
shall bless you with blessings of heaven above, blessings of the deep that lieth under, blessings of the breasts, and of the womb: [26]
The blessings of your father have prevailed above the blessings of my
progenitors unto the utmost bound of the everlasting hills: they shall be on
the head of Joseph, and on the crown of the head of him that was separate from
his brethren.
Exod.6 [3] And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto
Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name Yehovah was I not known to them?
[1] And when Balaam
saw that it pleased Yehovah to bless Israel, he went
not, as at other times, to seek for enchantments, but he set his face toward
the wilderness.
[2] And Balaam
lifted up his eyes, and he saw Israel abiding in his tents according to their
tribes; and the spirit of God came upon
him.
[3] And he took up
his parable, and said, Balaam the son of Beor had
said, and the man whose eyes are open had said:
[4] He had said, which heard the words of God, which saw the vision of the Almighty, falling
into a trance, but having his eyes open:
[5] How goodly are thy tents, O Jacob, and thy tabernacles, O Israel!
[6] As the valleys are they spread forth, as gardens by the river's
side, as the trees of lign aloes which Yehovah had planted, and as cedar trees beside the waters.
[7] He shall pour the water out of his buckets, and his seed shall be in
many waters, and his king shall be higher than Agag,
and his kingdom shall be exalted.
[8] God brought him forth out of Egypt; he had as it were the strength
of an unicorn: he shall eat up the nations his
enemies, and shall break their bones, and pierce them through with his arrows.
[9] He couched he lay down as a
lion, and as a great lion: who shall stir him up? Blessed is he that blesses you, and cursed is he that curses you.
[10] And Balak's anger was kindled against Balaam, and he smote his
hands together: and Balak said unto Balaam, I called you
to curse mine enemies, and, behold, you hast altogether blessed them these
three times.
[11] Therefore now flee you to thy place: I thought to promote you unto
great honor; but, lo, Yehovah had kept you back from honor.
[12] And Balaam said unto Balak, Spake I not also to thy messengers which you sent unto me,
saying,
[13] If Balak would give me his house full of
silver and gold, I cannot go beyond the commandment of Yehovah,
to do either good or bad of mine own mind; but what Yehovah
said, that will I speak?
[14] And now, behold, I go unto my people: come therefore, and I will
advertise you what this people shall do to thy people in the latter days.
[15] And he took up
his parable, and said, Balaam the son of Beor had
said, and the man whose eyes are open had said:
[16] He had said, which heard the
words of God, and knew the knowledge of the most High, which saw the vision of the Almighty, falling
into a trance, but having his eyes open:
[17] I shall see
him, but not now:
Messiah:
I shall behold him, but not nigh: there shall come a Star out of Jacob, and a Sceptre
shall rise out of Israel, and
shall smite the corners of Moab, and destroy all the children of Sheth.
[18] And Edom shall
be a possession, Seir also shall be a possession for
his enemies; and Israel shall do valiantly.
[19] Out of Jacob shall come he that shall have dominion, and shall
destroy him that remains of the city.
[20] And when he looked on Amalek, he took up
his parable, and said, Amalek was the first of the
nations; but his latter end shall be that he perish
forever.
[21] And he looked on the Kenites, and took up
his parable, and said, Strong is thy dwellingplace,
and you puttest thy nest in a rock.
[22] Nevertheless the Kenite shall be wasted,
until Asshur shall carry you away captive.
[23] And he took up his parable, and said, Alas, who shall live when God
doeth this!
[24] And ships shall come from the coast of Chittim,
and shall afflict Asshur, and shall afflict Eber, and he also shall perish forever.
[25]
And Balaam rose up, and went and returned to his place: and Balak
also went his way.
Ruth.1 [20] And she said unto them, Call me not
Naomi, call me Mara: for the Almighty had dealt very bitterly
with me.[21] I went out full, and Yehovah had
brought me home again empty: why then call you me Naomi, seeing Yehovah had testified against me, and the Almighty had
afflicted me?
Job.5 [17] Behold, happy is the man whom God
corrects: therefore despise not you the chastening of the Almighty:
[18] For he makes sore, and binds up: he wounds, and his
hands make whole.
[19] He shall deliver you in six troubles: yea, in seven there shall no
evil touch you.
[20] In famine he shall redeem you from death: and in war from the power
of the sword.
[21] You shall be hid from the scourge of the tongue: neither shall you
be afraid of destruction when it cometh.
[22] At destruction and famine you shall laugh: neither shall you be
afraid of the beasts of the earth.
[23] For you shall be in league with the stones of the field: and the
beasts of the field shall be at peace with you.
[24] And you shall know that your tabernacle shall be in peace; and you
shall visit your habitation, and shall not sin.
[25] Thou shall know also that your seed shall be great, and thine offspring as the grass of the earth.
[26] Thou shall come to your grave in a full age, like as a shock of
corn cometh in in his season.
[27] Lo this, we have searched it, so it is; hear it, and know you it
for your good.
Job has the most times for the
Almighty:
Job.6 [4] For the
arrows of the Almighty are within me, the poison whereof drinketh up my spirit: the terrors of God do set themselves
in array against me.
[14] To him that is
afflicted pity should be shewed from his friend; but
he forsaketh the fear of the Almighty.
Job.8 [3] Does God pervert
judgment? or doth the Almighty pervert
justice?
[5] If you wouldest seek unto God betimes, and make your supplication
to the Almighty;
Job.11 [7] Can you by searching find out God? can you find out the Almighty unto
perfection?
Job.13 [3] Surely I
would speak to the Almighty, and I desire to reason with God.
Job.15 [25] For he
stretches out his hand against God, and strengthens himself against the
Almighty.
Job.21 [15] What is the
Almighty, that we should serve him? And what profit should we have, if we
pray unto him?
[20] His eyes shall
see his destruction, and he shall drink of the wrath of the Almighty.
Job.22 [3] Is it any
pleasure to the Almighty, that you art righteous? or is it gain to him that you makest
your ways perfect?
[17] Which said unto
God, Depart from us: and what can the Almighty do for them?
[23] If you return
to the Almighty, you shall be built up, you
shall put away iniquity far from your tabernacles.
[25] Yea, the
Almighty shall be your defense, and you shall have plenty of silver.[26] For then shall you have your delight in the
Almighty, and shall lift up your face unto God.
Job.23 [16] For God makes my heart soft, and the
Almighty troubles me:
Job.24 [1] Why, seeing
times are not hidden from the Almighty, do they that know him not
see his days?
Job.27 [2] As God lives, who had taken away my
judgment; and the Almighty, who had vexed my soul;
[10] Will he delight
himself in the Almighty? Will he always call upon God?[11] I will teach you by the hand of God: that which
is with the Almighty will I not conceal.
[13] This is the
portion of a wicked man with God, and the heritage of oppressors, which they
shall receive of the Almighty.
Job.29 [5] When the
Almighty was yet with me, when my children were about me;
Job.31 [2] For what
portion of God is there from above? and what
inheritance of the Almighty from on high?
[35] Oh that one
would hear me! behold, my desire is, that the
Almighty would answer me, and that mine adversary had written a book.
Job.32 [8] But there is
a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding.
Job.33 [4] The Spirit of God had made me, and
the breath of the Almighty had given me life.
Job.34 [10] Therefore hearken unto me, you men
of understanding: far be it from God, that he should
do wickedness; and from the Almighty, that he should commit
iniquity.
[12] Yea, surely God
will not do wickedly; neither will the Almighty pervert
judgment.
Job.35 [13] Surely God will not hear vanity;
neither will the Almighty regard it.
Job.37 [23] Touching the Almighty,
we cannot find him out: he is excellent in power, and in judgment, and in
plenty of justice: he will not afflict.
Job.40 [2] Shall he that contend with the
Almighty instruct him? He that reproves God,
let him answer it.
Pss.68 [14] When the Almighty scattered
kings in it, it was white as snow in Salmon.
Pss.91 [1] He that dwells in the secret place of
the most High shall abide under the shadow of the
Almighty.
Isa.13 [6] Howl you; for the day of Yehovah is at hand; it
shall come as a destruction from the Almighty.
[7] Therefore shall all hands be faint, and every man's
heart shall melt:
[8] And they shall be afraid: pangs and sorrows shall take hold of them;
they shall be in pain as a woman that travails: they shall be amazed one at
another; their faces shall be as flames.
[9] Behold, the day
of Yehovah comes, cruel both with wrath and
fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it.
[10] For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall
not give their light: the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the
moon shall not cause her light to shine.
[11] And I will punish the world
for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease, and will lay low the
haughtiness of the terrible.
[12] I will make a man more precious than fine gold; even a
man than the golden wedge of Ophir.
[13] Therefore I
will shake the heavens, and the earth shall remove out of her place, in the
wrath of Yehovah of hosts, and in the day of his
fierce anger.
[14] And it shall be as the chased roe, and as a sheep that
no man taketh up: they shall every man turn to his
own people, and flee every one into his own land.
[15] Every one that is found shall be thrust through; and every one that
is joined unto them shall fall by the sword.
[16] Their children also shall be dashed to pieces before their eyes;
their houses shall be spoiled, and their wives ravished.
Ezek.1 [5]
Also out of the midst thereof came the likeness of four living creatures.
[24] And when they went, I heard the noise of their
wings, like the noise of great waters, as
the voice of the Almighty,
the voice of speech, as the noise of an host:
when they stood, they let down
their wings.
Ezek.10 [5] And the
sound of the cherubim’s wings was heard even to the outer court, as the voice of the Almighty God when he speaks.
Joel.1 [15] Alas for the day! for
the day of Yehovah is at hand, and as a destruction
from the Almighty shall it come.
9 match in the
Gospels and letters
1 Cor. 3 [16] Know you not that you are
the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells in
you? [17] If any man (or woman) defile the temple of God, him
shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple you are.
2Cor.6 [14]
Be you not unequally yoked together with
unbelievers:
What
fellowship had righteousness with unrighteousness?
What
communion had light with darkness?
What
concord had Messiah with Belial?
Or what
part had he that believeth with an infidel?
What
agreement had the temple of God with idols?
For you are the temple of the living God;
as God had said, I will dwell in them, and
walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
[17] Wherefore come
out from among them, and be you separate, said Yehovah,
and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,
[18] And will be a
Father unto you and you shall be my sons and daughters, said the Lord Almighty.

and the ending, said Yehovah, which is, and which
was, and which is to come, the Almighty.
Rev.4 [8] And the four
beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within:
and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy,
holy, holy, the Lord God Almighty,
which was, and is, and is to come.
Rev.11[17] Saying, We give you thanks, O Lord God Almighty, which
are, and was, and are to come; because you have taken to you your great
power, and have reigned.
Rev.15 [3] And they sing the song of Moses the
servant of God, and the song of the
Lamb, saying, Great and marvelous are your works, Lord God Almighty;
just and true are your ways, you King of
saints.
Rev.16 [7] And I heard another out of the altar
say, Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous
are your judgments.
[14] For they are
the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the
earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of
God Almighty.
Rev.19 [11]
And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and He that sat upon him was called Faithful and True,
and in righteousness He does judge and make war.
[12] His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were
many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.
[13] And he was
clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.
[14] And the armies which were in heaven followed Him upon
white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.
[15] And out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it
He should smite the nations:
and He
shall rule them with a rod of iron:
and He
treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath
of Almighty God.
[16] And He had on His vesture and on his thigh a name
written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF
LORDS.
Rev.21 [22] And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the
temple of it.
[23] And the city had no need of the sun neither of the moon to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.
[24] And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in
the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honor into
it.
[25] And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day:
for there shall be no night there.
[26] And they shall bring the glory and honor of the nations into it.
[27] And there shall in no wise enter into it anything that defiles,
neither whatsoever works abomination, or makes a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life.
[1] Comfort you, comfort you my people, said your
God.
[2] Speak you comfortably
to Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her
iniquity is pardoned: for she had received of Yehovah's
hand double for all her sins.
[3] The voice of him that cries in the wilderness, Prepare you the way of Yehovah,
make straight in the desert a highway for our God.
[4] Every valley shall be exalted, and every
mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight,
and the rough places plain:
[5] And the glory of Yehovah
shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of Yehovah had spoken it.
[6] The voice said, Cry. And he said, what shall I
cry? All flesh is grass, and all the goodliness thereof is as the flower of the
field:
[7] The grass withers, the flower fades: because the
spirit of Yehovah blows upon it: surely the people is
grass.
[8] The grass withers, the flower fades: but the word of our God shall stand for
ever.
[9] O Zion, that brings good tidings, get thee up
into the high mountain; O Jerusalem, that brings good tidings, lift up thy
voice with strength; lift it up, be not afraid; say unto the cities of Judah,
Behold your God!
[10] Behold, the Lord Yehovah
will come with strong hand, and his arm shall rule for him: behold, his reward
is with him, and his work before him.
[11] He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he
shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall
gently lead those that are with young.
God does these things:
[12] Who had measured the waters in the hollow of his
hand, and meted out heaven with the span, and comprehended the dust of the
earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in scales, and the hills in a
balance?
[13] Who had directed the Spirit of Yehovah, or being his counselor had taught him?
[14] With whom took he
counsel, and who instructed him, and taught him in the path of judgment, and
taught him knowledge, and showed to him the way of understanding?
[15] Behold, the nations are as a drop of a bucket,
and are counted as the small dust of the balance: behold, he takes up the isles
as a very little thing.
[16] And Lebanon is not sufficient to burn, nor the beasts thereof sufficient for a burnt offering.
[17] All nations before him are as nothing; and they
are counted to him less than nothing, and vanity.
[18] To whom then will you liken God? or what likeness will you compare unto him?
[19] The workman melts a graven image, and the
goldsmith spreads it over with gold, and casts silver chains.
[20] He that is so impoverished that he had no
oblation chooses a tree that will not rot; he seeketh
unto him a cunning workman to prepare a graven image that shall not be moved.
[21] Have you not known? Have you not heard?
Had it not been told you from the beginning?
Have you not understood from the foundations of the earth?
[22] It is he that sits upon the circle of the earth,
and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretches out the heavens
as a curtain, and spreads them out as a tent to dwell in:
[23] That brings the princes to nothing; he makes the
judges of the earth as vanity.
[24] Yea, they shall not be planted; yea, they shall
not be sown: yea, their stock shall not take root in the earth: and he shall
also blow upon them, and they shall wither, and the whirlwind shall take them
away as stubble.
[25] To whom then will you liken
me, or shall I be equal? said the Holy One.
[26] Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who had
created these things, that brings out their host by
number: he calls them all by names by the greatness of his might, for that he
is strong in power; not one fails.
[27] Why do you say O Jacob, and speak, O Israel, My
way is hid from Yehovah, and my judgment is passed
over from my God?
[28] Have you not known?
Have you not heard, that the everlasting
God, Yehovah, the Creator of the ends of the earth,
faints not, neither is weary?
There
is no searching of his understanding.
[29] He gives power to the faint; and to them that
have no might he increases strength.
[30] Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and
the young men shall utterly fall:
[31] But they that wait upon Yehovah
shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they
shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
