Today’s topic:
The name Joshua = Jehoshua
For the record,
I want to say according to my study today, there is a little uncertainty for the name of the son of
Nun, Joshua.
The nature of the
relationship of names one to another, is uncertain today.
Just like Jethro and all his names…
According to a Bible
dictionary, it says there is uncertainty pertaining to the identity of Moses
father-in-law.
The nature of the
relationship of names one to another, is uncertain.
This is not a new
disagreement. This is an old story with no answer.
I must admit I did not
know this disagreement was going on for a long time.
I'm sorry I participated
in this old disagreement.
Back to Joshua = Jehoshua
All we have today is the
KJV Bible in old English and some Hebrew and Greek texts (not sure if they are the ones the 57 translators used.L)
I did verify which English
bible version to use. It is the KJV in English, it is the best one.
In short, all the other
bible versions are from corrupt manuscripts and texts.
In my early, young days I
researched and researched all day.
I do have an analytical and meticulous mind, so I studied many things in the biblical world,
things most people never heard about or were aware of.
Our congregation knows
these things now.
I thank the Lord Yeshua I am still here today, healthy in the 21 century to “Make
straight the way of the Lord.”

English changes the names
from the Hebrew name Jehoshua to Joshua

Only one tine Hoshea in
English, same name used in Hebrew as Oshea:

of Nun.

Neh.8 [17] And all the congregation of them

Is Jesus here Joshua? Seems
like it here. J
Heb.4 [8] For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward
have spoken of another day.
I see a different
spelling in Hebrew for (Noon, Nun) here in verse 27 below, it is (Non) – not a problem

vowel on the letter vav (second letter from the

So we
see again, in the 21 century there is a little uncertainty for the son of Nun, Joshua’s name.
I can say, the nature of
the relationship of names one to another, is uncertain.
So do we get all upset,
argue with each other and leave the congregation?
No, we just move on in God.
We will never know the
real answer why the names changed.
Just remember and take note:
In every Bible version today, except the KJV in
English, they are from corrupt manuscripts.
A short History(?)
Greek text
Until the late 1800s, the Textus Receptus, or the
“received text,” was the foremost Greek text from which the Gospels and
letters was derived. (The King James Version is based on the Textus Receptus.)
In 1881 two weasel scholars, Brooke Foss Westcott and Fenton J. A. Hort,
printed their New Testament in Greek, later known as the Critical Text. Dismissing the Textus Receptus as an inferior text rife with errors,
Westcott and Hort compiled
a New Greek text, with special focus on two fourth-century manuscripts, the Codex Vaticanus and
the Codex Sinaiticus.

Old Testament Texts
In 1516, Daniel Bomberg published a text of the Old Testament
under the name "First Rabbinic Bible."
This text was followed in
1524 by a second edition that had been compiled from ancient manuscripts by a
Hebrew scholar and converted Jewish Rabbi named Abraham Ben Chayyim.
Today this work is called the
Ben Chayyim Masoretic Text,
and is the text that underlies the Old Testament of the King James Bible.
The word "masoretic"
comes from the Hebrew word "mesor" meaning traditional.
The Masoretes were
the scribes that were given the responsibility of guarding and keeping the text
of the Old Testament, and keep it well they surely did.
The Ben Chayyim Masoretic text was the
uncontested text of the Old Testament for over four hundred
years.
The Ben Chayyim text was used in the first two editions of "Biblia Hebraica" by Rudolph Kittel, usually referred to as BHK, published in
1906 and 1912.
However, in 1937, Kittel changed his Hebrew
text from the Ben Chayyim to the Ben Asher text.
The Ben Asher text was based on a text call the Leningrad Manuscript (B19a;
also called simply L), which was dated around 1008 A. D. ?
Using the peculiar logic of that day, which believed that older
must always be better, Kittel published his 1937
edition based on this "older" text.
His 1937 edition had about 20,000 changes (most of them minor, but changes nevertheless)
from the Ben Chayyim text.
Both texts are still
referred to as "Masoretic," so care must be taken as to which text
is being referred to.
It had apparently not dawned
on Kittel that the Ben Asher version was based on
very few minor manuscripts similar to B19a, while the Ben Chayyim text followed the vast majority of the
manuscripts available.
And the research goes on and on and on……………
