Shabbat Shalom

 שַׁבָּת שָׁלוֹם

Today is January 18, 2020

January -- Janus's month

Janus is the Roman god of gates and doorways, depicted with two faces looking in opposite directions. His festival month is January. Januarius had 29 days, until Julius when it became 31 days long.

We acknowledge Yehovah’s calendar: We are now in the tenth month, Teveth  טֵבֵת day 22

Esth.2 [16] So Esther was taken unto king Ahasuerus into his house royal in the tenth month, which is the month Tebeth, in the seventh year of his reign.

Part of Dec. 2019 and Jan. 2020

New moon report - Jan. 27, 2020

The eleventh month, which is the month Sh’vat

Zech.1 [1] In the eighth month, in the second year of Darius, came the word of the LORD unto Zechariah, the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo the prophet, saying, [7] Upon the four and twentieth day of the eleventh month, which is the month Sebat שְׁבָט

Today’s Topic:

The resurrection in Scripture

Deut.31[16] And Yehovah said unto Moses, Behold, thou shalt sleep with thy fathers; and this people will rise up, and go a whoring after the gods of the strangers of the land, whither they go to be among them, and will forsake me, and break my covenant which I have made with them.

Ecc.12:[5] Also when they shall be afraid of that which is high, and fears shall be in the way, and the almond tree shall flourish (be contemned, despised, abhorred), and the grasshopper shall be a burden, and desire shall fail: because man goes to his long home, and the mourners go about the streets: [6] Or ever the silver cord be loosed, or the golden bowl be broken, or the pitcher be broken at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the cistern.
[7]
Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.

Job.14:[7] For there is hope of a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that the tender branch thereof will not cease.

[8] Though the root thereof waxes old in the earth, and the stock thereof dies in the ground;

[9] Yet through the scent of water it will bud, and bring forth boughs like a plant.

[10] But man dies, and wastes away: yea, man gives up the ghost, and where is he?

[11] As the waters fail from the sea, and the flood decays and dries up:

[12] So man lies down, and rises not: till the heavens be no more, they shall not awake, nor be raised out of their sleep.

[13] O that thou would hide me in the grave, that thou would keep me secret, until thy wrath be past, that thou would appoint me a set time, and remember me!

[14] If a man die, shall he live again? all the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come.

1Cor.15 [52] In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.[53] For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.

[54] So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.

[55] O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?

[56] The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.

[57] But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Yeshua the Messiah.

[58] Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of Yehovah, forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not in vain in Yehovah.

Yeshua said:

John.6 [39] And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day. [40] And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which sees the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.

[44] No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.

[54] Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.

John 11 [24] Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.

[25] Yeshua said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believes in me, though he was dead, yet shall he live: [26] And whosoever lives and believes in me shall never die.

Do you believe this?

Matt.22 [23] The same day came to him the Sadducees, which say that there is no resurrection, and asked him,

[24] Saying, Master, Moses said, If a man die, having no children, his brother shall marry his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.

[25] Now there were with us seven brethren: and the first, when he had married a wife, deceased, and, having no issue, left his wife unto his brother:

[26] Likewise the second also, and the third, unto the seventh.

[27] And last of all the woman died also.

[28] Therefore in the resurrection whose wife shall she be of the seven? for they all had her.

[29] Yeshua answered and said unto them,

You do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.

[30] For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.

[31] But as touching the resurrection of the dead, have ye not read that which was spoken unto you by God, saying,

[32] I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?

God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.

Same account in Mark, a little different

Mark 12 [18] Then come unto him the Sadducees, which say there is no resurrection; and they asked him, saying,

[19] Master, Moses wrote unto us, If a man's brother die, and leave his wife behind him, and leave no children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.

[20] Now there were seven brethren: and the first took a wife, and dying left no seed.

[21] And the second took her, and died, neither left he any seed: and the third likewise.

[22] And the seven had her, and left no seed: last of all the woman died also.

[23] In the resurrection therefore, when they shall rise, whose wife shall she be of them? for the seven had her to wife.

[24] And Yeshua answering said unto them, Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God?

[25] For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but are as the angels which are in heaven.

[26] And as touching the dead, that they rise: have ye not read in the book of Moses, how in the bush God spoke unto him, saying, I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?

[27] He is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living: you therefore do greatly err.

Same account in Luke, a little different

Luke 20 [27] Then came to him certain of the Sadducees, which deny that there is any resurrection; and they asked him,

[28] Saying, Master, Moses wrote unto us, If any man's brother die, having a wife, and he die without children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.

[29] There were therefore seven brethren: and the first took a wife, and died without children.

[30] And the second took her to wife, and he died childless.

[31] And the third took her; and in like manner the seven also: and they left no children, and died.

[32] Last of all the woman died also.

[33] Therefore in the resurrection whose wife of them is she? for seven had her to wife.

[34] And Yeshua answering said unto them, The children of this world marry, and are given in marriage:

[35] But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage:

[36] Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.

[37] Now that the dead are raised, even Moses showed at the bush, when he calls Yehovah the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.

[38] For he is not a God of the dead, but of the living: for all live unto him.

Matt. 27 [50] Yeshua, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.
[51] And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;
[52] And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose,[53] And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.

Luke 14 [11] For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

[12] Then said he also to him that bade him, When you make a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen, nor thy rich neighbors; lest they also bid thee again, and a recompense be made thee.
[13] But when you make a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind:
[14] And thou shalt be blessed; for they cannot recompense thee: for you shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just.

Acts 1[22] Beginning from the baptism of John, unto that same day that he was taken up from us, must one be ordained to be a witness with us of His, Messiah’s resurrection.

Acts: 2 [22] Peter said:

Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Yeshua of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know:
[23] Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain:
[24] Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it.
[25] For David spoke concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved:
[26] Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope:
[27] Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.
[28] Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance.
[29] Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulcher is with us unto this day.
[30] Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Messiah to sit on his throne;
[31] He seeing this before spoke of the resurrection of Messiah, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption.

Peter

Acts.4 [1] And as they spoke unto the people, the priests, and the captain of the temple, and the Sadducees, came upon them,. [2] Being grieved that they taught the people, and preached through Yeshua the resurrection from the dead.

[33] And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Yeshua: and great grace was upon them all.

Paul adventures:

Acts 23 [6]…when Paul perceived that the one part were Sadducees, and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council, Men and brethren, I am a Pharisee, the son of a Pharisee: of the hope and resurrection of the dead I am called in question.

Acts 241] And after five days Ananias the high priest descended with the elders, and with a certain orator named Tertullus, who informed the governor against Paul.
[2] And when he was called forth, Tertullus began to accuse him, saying, Seeing that by thee we enjoy great quietness, and that very worthy deeds are done unto this nation by thy providence,
[3] We accept it always, and in all places, most noble Felix, with all thankfulness, [4] notwithstanding, that I be not further tedious unto thee, I pray thee that you would hear us of thy clemency a few words.
[5] For we have found this man a pestilent fellow, and a mover of sedition among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes:[6] Who also hath gone about to profane the temple: whom we took, and would have judged according to our law.
[7] But the chief captain Lysias came upon us, and with great violence took him away out of our hands,
[8] Commanding his accusers to come unto thee: by examining of whom yourself may take knowledge of all these things, whereof we accuse him.
[9] And the Jews also assented, saying that these things were so.

[10] Then Paul, after that the governor had beckoned unto him to speak, answered,

Forasmuch as I know that thou hast been of many years a judge unto this nation, I do the more cheerfully answer for myself:
[11] Because that you may understand, that there are yet but twelve days since I went up to Jerusalem for to worship.

[12] And they neither found me in the temple disputing with any man, neither raising up the people, neither in the synagogues, nor in the city:
[13]
Neither can they prove the things whereof they now accuse me.

[14] But this I confess unto thee, that after the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the law and in the prophets: [15] And have hope toward God, which they themselves also allow, that there shall be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust.

[21] Except it be for this one voice, that I cried standing among them, Touching the resurrection of the dead I am called in question by you this day.

[22] And when Felix heard these things, having more perfect knowledge of that way, he deferred them, and said, When Lysias the chief captain shall come down, I will know the uttermost of your matter.
[23] And he commanded a centurion to keep Paul, and to let him have liberty, and that he should forbid none of his acquaintance to minister or come unto him.
[24] And after certain days, when Felix came with his wife Drusilla, which was a Jewess, he sent for Paul, and heard him concerning the faith in Messiah.
[25] And as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come Felix trembled, and answered, Go thy way for this time; when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee.
[26] He hoped also that money should have been given him of Paul, that he might lose him: wherefore he sent for him the oftener, and communed with him.
[27] But after two years Porcius Festus came into Felix' room: and Felix, willing to show the Jews a pleasure, left Paul bound.

At the end:

Dan.12 [1] And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which stands for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.

[2] And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.

[3] And they that be /are wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.

Paul to the Romans

Rom.1 [1] Paul, a servant of Yeshua the Messiah, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God,
[2] (Which he had promised afore by his prophets in the holy scriptures,)
[3] Concerning his Son Yeshua the Messiah our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh;
[4] And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead: [5] By whom we have received grace and apostleship, for obedience to the faith among all nations, for his name:
[6] Among whom are ye also the called of Yeshua the Messiah:
[7] To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Yeshua the Messiah.

Rom.6 [1] What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?
[2] God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?
[3] Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Yeshua the Messiah were baptized into his death?
[4] Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Messiah was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
[5] For if we have been planted together in the likeness of His death, we shall be also
in the likeness of His resurrection:
[6] Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
[7] For he that is dead is freed from sin.
[8] Now if we be dead with Messiah, we believe that we shall also live with him:
[9] Knowing that Messiah being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.
[10] For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.

[24] And to Yeshua the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaks better things than that of Abel.
[25] See that ye refuse not him that speaks. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaks from heaven:
[26] Whose voice then shook the earth: but now he hath promised, saying, Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven.
[27] And this word, Yet once more, signifies the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that are made, that those things which cannot be shaken may remain.
[28] Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear:[
29] For our God is a consuming fire.
