Yehovah’s plagues in Egypt were against their false gods
1Kgs.18
[1] And it came to pass after many days, that the word of Yehovah came to Elijah in the third year, saying, go, show you unto Ahab; and I will send rain upon the earth.
[2] And Elijah went to show himself unto Ahab.
And there was a sore famine in Samaria.
[3] And Ahab called Obadiah, which was the governor of his house.
(Now Obadiah feared Yehovah greatly:
[4] For it was so, when Jezebel cut off the prophets of Yehovah, that Obadiah took an hundred prophets, and hid them by fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and water.)
[5] And Ahab said unto Obadiah, Go into the land, unto all fountains of water, and unto all brooks: peradventure we may find grass to save the horses and mules alive, that we lose not all the beasts.
[6] So they divided the land between them to pass throughout it: Ahab went one way by himself, and Obadiah went another way by himself.
[7] And as Obadiah was in the way, behold, Elijah met him: and he knew him, and fell on his face, and said, Are you that my lord Elijah?
[8] And he answered him, I am: go, tell your lord, Behold, Elijah is here.
[9] And he said, what have I sinned, that you would deliver your servant into the hand of Ahab, to slay me?
[10] As Yehovah your God lives, there is no nation or kingdom, whither my lord had not sent to seek you:
and when they said, He is not there; he took an oath of the kingdom and nation, that they found you not.
[11] And now you say, go tell your lord, Behold, Elijah is here.
[12] And it shall come to pass, as soon as I am gone from you, that the Spirit of Yehovah shall carry you whither I know not;
and so when I come and tell Ahab, and he cannot find you, he shall slay me: but I your servant fear Yehovah from my youth.
[13] Was it not told my lord what I did when Jezebel slew the
prophets of Yehovah, how I hid an hundred men
of Yehovah‘s
prophets by fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and water?
[14] And now you say, go tell your lord, Behold, Elijah is here: and he shall slay me.
[15] And Elijah said, As Yehovah
of hosts lives, before whom I stand I will surely show myself unto him to
day.
[16] So Obadiah went to meet Ahab, and told him: and Ahab went to meet
Elijah.
[17] And it came to pass, when Ahab saw Elijah, that Ahab said unto
him, Art you he that troubles Israel?
[18] And he answered, I have not troubled Israel; but you, and your
father's house, in that you have forsaken the commandments of Yohovah,
and you have followed Baalim.
[19] Now therefore send, and gather to me all Israel unto Mount Carmel,
and the prophets of Baal four hundred and fifty, and the prophets of the groves four hundred, which eat at Jezebel's table.
[20] So Ahab sent unto all the children of Israel, and gathered the prophets together unto Mount Carmel.
[21] And Elijah came unto all the people, and said,
How long
halt you between two opinions?
And the people answered him not a word.
[22] Then said Elijah unto the people, I, even I only, remain a
prophet of Yehovah;
but Baal's prophets are four hundred and fifty men.
[23] Let them therefore give us two bullocks; and let them choose one bullock for themselves, and cut it in pieces, and lay it on wood, and put no fire under:
and I will dress
the other bullock, and lay it on wood, and put no fire under:
[24] And call you on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of Yehovah:
and
the God that answers by fire, let him be God.
And all the people answered and said, It is well spoken.
[25] And Elijah said unto the prophets of Baal, Choose you one bullock for yourselves, and dress it first; for you are many; and call on the name of your gods, but put no fire under.
[26] And they took the bullock which was given them, and they dressed it, and called on the name of Baal from morning even until noon, saying, O Baal, hear us.
But there was no voice, nor any that answered.
And they leaped upon the altar which was made.
[27] And it came to pass at noon,
that Elijah mocked them,
and said, Cry aloud:
for he is a god;
either he is talking,
or he is pursuing,
or he is in a journey,
or peradventure he sleeps,
and must be awaked.
[28] And they cried aloud,
and cut themselves after their manner with knives and lancets, till the blood
gushed out upon them.
[29] And it came to pass, when midday was past, and they prophesied until the
time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that there was neither voice,
nor any to answer, nor any that regarded.
[30] And Elijah said unto all the people, Come near
unto me. And all the people came near unto him. And he repaired the altar of Yehovah that was broken
down.
[31] And Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of
the sons of Jacob, unto whom the word of Yehovah
came, saying, Israel shall be thy name:
[32] And with the stones he built an altar in the name of Yehovah:
and he made a trench about the altar, as great as would contain two measures of
seed.
[33] And he put the wood in order, and cut the bullock in pieces, and laid him
on the wood, and said, Fill four barrels with water, and pour it on the burnt
sacrifice, and on the wood.
[34] And he said, Do it the second time. And they did it the second time. And
he said, Do it the third time. And they did it the third time.
[35] And the water ran round about the altar; and he filled the trench also
with water.
[36] And it came to pass at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice,
that Elijah the prophet came near, and said, Yehovah
God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known this day that thou art
God in Israel, and that I am thy servant, and that I have done all these things
at thy word.
[37] Hear me, O Yehovah,
hear me, that this people may know that thou art Yehovah
God, and that thou hast turned their heart back again.
[38] Then the fire of Yehovah fell, and consumed the
burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the
water that was in the trench.
[39] And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces: and they said, Yehovah, he is the God; Yehovah,
he is the God.
[40] And Elijah said unto them, Take the prophets of Baal; let not one of them
escape. And they took them: and Elijah brought them down to the brook Kishon, and slew them there.
Jer.44
[1] The word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the
Jews which dwell in the land of Egypt, which dwell at Migdol,
and at Tahpanhes, and at Noph,
and in the country of Pathros,
saying,
[2] Thus said Yehovah of hosts,
the God of Israel;
You have seen all the evil that I have brought upon
Jerusalem, and upon all the cities of Judah; and, behold,
this day they are a desolation, and no man dwells
therein,
[3] Because of their
wickedness which they have committed to provoke me to anger, in that
they went to burn incense, and to serve other gods,
whom they knew not, neither they, you, nor your fathers.
[4] Howbeit I sent unto you all my servants the prophets,
rising early
and sending them, saying, Oh,
do not this abominable thing that I hate.
[5] But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear
to turn from their wickedness, to burn no incense unto other gods.
[6] Wherefore my fury and mine anger was poured forth,
and was kindled in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem;
and they are wasted and desolate, as at this day.
[7] Therefore now thus said Yehovah,
the God of hosts, the God of Israel;
Wherefore commit you this great evil against your souls,
to cut off from you man and woman, child and suckling, out of Judah, to leave
you none to remain;
[8] In that you provoke me unto wrath with the works of
your hands, burning incense unto other gods in the
land of Egypt, whither you be gone to dwell, that you might cut
yourselves off, and that you might be a curse and a reproach among all the
nations of the earth?
[9] Have you forgotten the wickedness of your
fathers, and the wickedness of the kings of Judah,
and the
wickedness of their wives, and your own wickedness, and the wickedness of your
wives, which they have committed in the land of Judah, and in the streets of
Jerusalem
[10] They are
not humbled even unto this day, neither have they feared, nor walked in My law, nor in My statutes, that I set before you and before
your fathers.
[11] Therefore thus said Yehovah
of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will set my face against you for evil,
and to cut off all Judah.
[12] And I will take the remnant of Judah, that have set
their faces to go into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, and they shall all
be consumed,
and fall in the land of Egypt; they shall even be
consumed by the sword and by the famine: they shall
die,
from the least even unto the greatest, by the sword and
by the famine: and they shall be an execration, and an astonishment, and a
curse, and a reproach.
[13] For I will punish them
that dwell in the land of Egypt, as I have punished Jerusalem, by the
sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence:
[14] So that none of the remnant of Judah, which are gone
into the land of Egypt to sojourn there, shall escape or remain, that they
should return into the land of Judah, to the which they have a desire to return
to dwell there:
for none shall return but such as shall escape.
[15] Then all the men which
knew that their wives had burned incense unto other gods, and all the women
that stood by, a great multitude, even all the people that dwelt in the
land of Egypt, in Pathros,
answered Jeremiah, saying,
[16] As for the word that you had spoken unto us in the
name of Yehovah, we will
not hearken unto you.
[17] But we will certainly do whatsoever thing goes forth
out of our own mouth, to burn incense unto the
queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her,
as we have done, we, and our fathers, our kings, and
our princes, in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem:
for then had we plenty of victuals, and were well, and
saw no evil.
[18] But since we left off to burn incense to the queen of heaven,
and to pour out drink offerings unto her, we have wanted all things, and have
been consumed by the sword and by the famine.
[19] And when we burned incense to
the queen of heaven, and poured out drink offerings unto her, did
we make her cakes to worship her, and pour out drink offerings unto her,
without our men?
Sad………
False God’s are nothing to Our God Yehovah!
[1] And the Philistines
took the ark of God, and brought it from Eben-ezer
unto Ashdod.
[2] When the Philistines took the ark of God, they brought it into the house of
Dagon, and set it by Dagon.
[3] And when they of Ashdod arose early on the morrow, behold, Dagon was fallen
upon his face to the earth before the ark of Yehovah.
And they took Dagon, and set him in his place again.
[4] And when they arose early on the morrow morning, behold, Dagon was fallen
upon his face to the ground before the ark of Yehovah;
and the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands were cut off upon the
threshold; only the stump of Dagon was left to him.
[5] Therefore neither the priests of Dagon, nor any that come into Dagon's
house, tread on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod unto this day.
[6] But the hand of Yehovah was heavy upon them of
Ashdod, and he destroyed them, and smote them with emerods,
even Ashdod and the coasts thereof.
[7] And when the men of Ashdod saw that it was so, they said, The ark of the God of Israel shall not abide with us: for
his hand is sore upon us, and upon Dagon our god.
In Acts 19
[19] Many of them also
which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before
all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces
of silver.
[20] So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed.
[21] After these things were ended, Paul purposed in the spirit, when he had
passed through Macedonia and Achaia, to go to Jerusalem, saying, After I have
been there, I must also see Rome.
[22] So he sent into Macedonia two of them that ministered unto him, Timotheus and Erastus; but he himself stayed in Asia for a
season.
[23] And the same time there arose no small stir about that way.
[24] For a certain man named Demetrius, a silversmith, which made silver
shrines for Diana, brought no small gain unto the craftsmen;
[25] Whom he called together with the workmen of like occupation, and said,
Sirs, ye know that by this craft we have our wealth.
[26] Moreover ye see and hear, that not alone at Ephesus, but almost throughout
all Asia, this Paul hath persuaded and turned away much people, saying that
they be no gods, which are made with hands:
[27] So that not only this our craft is in danger to be set at nought; but also
that the temple of the great goddess Diana should be despised, and her
magnificence should be destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worshippeth.
[28] And when they heard these sayings, they were full of wrath, and cried out,
saying, Great is Diana of the Ephesians.
[29] And the whole city was filled with confusion: and having caught Gaius and
Aristarchus, men of Macedonia, Paul's companions in travel, they rushed with
one accord into the theatre.
[30] And when Paul would have entered in unto the people, the disciples
suffered him not.
[31] And certain of the chief of Asia, which were his friends, sent unto him,
desiring him that he would not adventure himself into the theatre.
[32] Some therefore cried one thing, and some another: for the assembly was
confused; and the more part knew not wherefore they were come together.
[33] And they drew Alexander out of the multitude, the Jews putting him
forward. And Alexander beckoned with the hand, and would have made his defence
unto the people.
[34] But when they knew that he was a Jew, all with one voice about the space
of two hours cried out, Great is Diana of the
Ephesians.
[35] And when the townclerk had appeased the people,
he said, Ye men of Ephesus, what man is there that knoweth
not how that the city of the Ephesians is a worshipper of the great goddess
Diana, and of the image which fell down from Jupiter?
[36] Seeing then that these things cannot be spoken against, ye ought to be
quiet, and to do nothing rashly.
[37] For ye have brought hither these men, which are neither robbers of
churches, nor yet blasphemers of your goddess.
[38] Wherefore if Demetrius, and the craftsmen which are with him, have a
matter against any man, the law is open, and there are deputies: let them implead one another.
[39] But if ye inquire any thing concerning other
matters, it shall be determined in a lawful assembly.
[40] For we are in danger to be called in question for this day's uproar, there
being no cause whereby we may give an account of this concourse.
[41] And when he had thus spoken, he dismissed the assembly.
Psalm 119
[1] Not unto us, O Yehovah, not unto us, but unto thy name give glory, for thy
mercy, and for thy truth's sake.
[2] Wherefore should the heathen say, Where is now
their God?
[3] But our God is in the heavens: he hath done whatsoever he hath pleased.
[4] Their idols are silver and gold, the work of men's hands.
[5] They have mouths, but they speak not: eyes have they, but they see not:
[6] They have ears, but they hear not: noses have they, but they smell not:
[7] They have hands, but they handle not: feet have they, but they walk not:
neither speak they through their throat.
[8] They that make them are like unto them; so is every one that trusteth in them.
