Today we use the Gregorian
calendar from Pope Gregory; from the 1500’s
Today is January 12, 2019 -
in the 21 Century
January -- Janus's month
Middle English Januarie
Latin Januarius "of Janus"
Latin Janu(s) "Janus" + -arius "ary (pertaining to)"
Latin Januarius mensis
"month of Janus"
Janus is the Roman god of gates and doorways, depicted with two
faces looking in opposite
directions. His festival month is January.
Januarius had 29 days, until Julius when it became 31 days long.
Yehovah has His own calendar:
We are now in Sh'vat / Shevat, the 11 month - the 5th day
Zech.1 [7] Upon the four and
twentieth day of the eleventh month, which is the month Sebat / Shevat …

Today’s Topic:
A short study
God is Light
Gen.1 [3] And God said,
Let there be light: and there was light.[4]
And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light
from the darkness.[5] And God called the light Day, and the
darkness he called Night.
And the
evening and the morning were the first day.
[14] And God said, Let there be lights in the
firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for
signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:[15] And let them be for
lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth:
and it was so.[16] And God made two great lights; the greater
light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made
the stars also.[17] And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to
give light upon the earth,[18] And to rule over the day and over
the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that
it was good.
[19] And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.
2 Cor.6 [14] Be ye not
unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath
righteousness with unrighteousness? and what
communion hath light with darkness?
Exod.10 [22] And Moses stretched forth his hand toward heaven; and there was a thick darkness in all the land of
Egypt three days:[23] They saw not one another, neither rose any from his
place for three days: but all the children of Israel had light in their dwellings.
Exod.13 [20] And they took their journey
from Succoth, and encamped in Etham, in the edge of
the wilderness. [21]
And Yehovah went before them by day in a pillar of a
cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give
them light; to go by day and night: [22] He took not away the
pillar of the cloud by day, nor the
pillar of fire by night, from
before the people.
Ecc.2 [13] Then I saw that
wisdom excelleth folly, as far as light excelleth darkness.
Isa.5 [20] Woe unto them that call evil good,
and good evil;
that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!
Messiah verses:
Matt.4 [13] And leaving Nazareth, he came and dwelt in Capernaum,
which is upon the sea coast, in the borders of Zabulon
and Nephthalim:
[14] That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying,
[15] The land of Zabulon, and the
land of Nephthalim, by the way of the sea, beyond
Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles;
[16] The people which sat in darkness saw
great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up.
[17] From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the
kingdom of heaven is at hand.
[6] For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is
given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be
called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince
of Peace.
[7] Of the increase of his government and peace
there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order
it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal
of Yehovah of hosts will perform this.
Messiah said:
Matt.5 [13] Ye are the salt of the earth:
but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall
it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but
to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.
[14] Ye are the
light of the world. A city
that is set on an hill cannot be hid.[15]
Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a
candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that
are in the house.[16] Let your light so shine before men, that
they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
Matt.6 [19] Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where
moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
[20] But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth
nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
[21] For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
[22] The light
of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye
be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.
[23] But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great
is that darkness!
Matt.10 [27] What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light: and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the housetops.
Matt.11 [28] Come unto
me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
[29] Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in
heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.[30]
For my yoke is easy, and my burden is
light.
Luke.1 [67] And his father Zacharias
was filled with the Holy Ghost, and prophesied, saying,
[68] Blessed be the Lord God of Israel; for he
hath visited and redeemed his people,
[69] And hath raised up an horn of salvation for us in the house of his
servant David;
[70] As he spake by the mouth of his holy
prophets, which have been since the world began:
[71] That we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all
that hate us;
[72] To perform the mercy promised to our fathers, and to remember his
holy covenant;
[73] The oath which he sware to our father
Abraham,
[74] That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the
hand of our enemies might serve him without fear,
[75] In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life.
[76] And thou, child, shalt be called the
prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go before the
face of the Lord to prepare his ways;
[77] To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of
their sins,
[78] Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on
high hath visited us, [79] To give
light to them that sit in
darkness and in the
shadow of death, to guide
our feet into the way of peace.
Luke 2 [25] And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and
devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him.
[26] And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not
see death, before he had seen the Lord's Messiah.
[27] And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents
brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law,
[28] Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said,
[29] Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart
in peace, according to thy word:
[30] For mine eyes have seen thy salvation,
[31] Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people;
[32] A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people
Israel.
Luke 8[16] No man, when he
hath lighted a
candle, covereth
it with a vessel, or putteth it under a bed; but setteth it on a candlestick, that they which
enter in may see the light.
Luke 11 [33] No man, when he
hath lighted a
candle, putteth
it in a secret place, neither under a bushel, but on a candlestick, that they which
come in may see the light. [34] The light
of the body is the eye: therefore
when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full
of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness.
[35] Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not
darkness. [36] If thy whole
body therefore be full of light, having no part dark, the whole shall be
full of light, as when the bright shining of a candle doth give thee light
Saul uses Genesis a lot:
2 Cor.11 [14] And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of
light. [15]
Therefore it is no great thing if Satan’s ministers also be
transformed as the ministers of righteousness…
Eph.5 [8] For ye were
sometimes darkness, but now are
ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:
[9] (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness
and truth;)
[10] Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.
[11] And have no fellowship with the unfruitful
works of darkness, but rather reprove them.
[12] For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of
them in secret.
[13]
But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.
[14] Wherefore he saith,
Awake thou that sleepest,
and arise from the dead, and Messiah shall
give thee light.
Phil.2 [14] Do all things without murmurings and disputings: [15]
That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the
midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world; [16] Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in
the day of Messiah, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured
in vain.
Col.1 [12] Giving thanks
unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints
in light: [13]
Who hath delivered us from the power of
darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:
[14] In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the
forgiveness of sins:
[15] Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of
every creature:
[16] For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and
that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or
dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and
for him:
[17]
And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
[18] And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the
beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the
preeminence.
[19] For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;
[20] And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by
him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things
in earth, or things in heaven.
[21] And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your
mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled
[22] In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy
and unblameable and unreproveable
in his sight:
[23] If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be
not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was
preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a
minister…
1Thes.5 [4] But ye, brethren, are
not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.[5] Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. [6] Therefore let us not
sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.
[7] For they that sleep sleep in the
night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.
[8] But let us,
who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and
for an helmet, the hope of salvation.
[9] For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain
salvation by our Lord Yeshua the Messiah, [10]
Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with
him.
1Tim.6 [15] Which in Messiah’s time He shall show, who is the blessed and only
Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords;[16] Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen.
2 Tim.1 [8] Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our
Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the
gospel according to the power of God;
[9] Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according
to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in
Messiah Jesus before the world began,
[10] But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Yeshua the Messiah, who
hath abolished death, and hath brought
life and immortality to light through the gospel: [11]
Whereunto I am appointed a preacher, and an apostle, and a teacher of the
Gentiles.
James:
Jas.1 [16] Do not err, my beloved brethren.[17]
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
Peter:
1Pet.2 [9] But ye are a chosen generation, a
royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:
[10] Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of
God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.
2 Pet.1 [19] We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto
ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth
in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:[20]
Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private
interpretation.
[21] For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy
men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy
Ghost.
John verses:
John 1 - back to Genesis:
[1]
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
[2] The same was in
the beginning with God.
[3] All things were made by Him; and without Him was not any thing made that was made.
[4] In Him was life;
and the life was the light of men.
[5] And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
[6] There was a man sent from God, whose name was
John.
[7]
The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.
[8]
He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.
[9]
That was the true Light, which lighteth every man
that cometh into the world.
[10] He was in the
world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
[11] He came unto his
own, and his own received him not.
[12] But as many as
received him, to them gave he power to become the sons
of God, even to them that believe on his name:
[13] Which were born, not of
blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
[14] And the
Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the
only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
John 3 [19]
And this is the condemnation, that
light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.[20] For
every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be
reproved.[21] But he that doeth
truth cometh to the light, that
his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
John.5 [35] He (John
the Baptist) was a burning and a shining
light: and ye were willing for a season to rejoice in
his light. [36]
But I have greater witness than that of John: for the works which the Father
hath given me to finish, the same works that I do,
bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me.
John.8 [12] Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me
shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
John.9 [5] As long as
I am in the world, I am the light
of the world.
John.11 [9] Jesus answered,
Are there not twelve hours in the day (day time hours)? If any man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world.[10] But if a
man walk in the night, he stumbleth, because there is
no light in him.
John.12 [35] Then Jesus said
unto them, Yet a little while is the light with
you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in
darkness knoweth not whither he goeth.
[36]
While ye have light, believe in
the light, that ye may be the
children of light.
[46] I am come
a light into the world, that
whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.
Luke.12 [35] Let your
loins be girded about, and your lights
burning;
A few
other examples of light
Saul get to tell his encounter with Yeshua
Acts 9 [3] And as he journeyed, he came
near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven: [4]
And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?[5]
And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I
am Yeshua whom thou persecutest:
it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks.
Acts 13 [47] For so hath the Lord
commanded us, saying, I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles, that thou shouldest
be for salvation unto the ends of the earth.
Acts 22 [6] And it came to pass, that, as I made my journey,
and was come nigh unto Damascus about noon, suddenly there shone from heaven a
great light round about me. [7] And I fell unto the ground, and heard a voice saying unto me, Saul,
Saul, why persecutest thou me?[8]
And I answered, Who art thou, Lord? And he said unto me, I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom you persecute.
Acts 26[13] At midday, O king, I saw in the way a light from heaven, above the brightness of the sun, shining round
about me and them which journeyed with me.
[18] To open their
eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto
God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them
which are sanctified by faith that is in me.[19] Whereupon, O king
Agrippa, I was not disobedient unto the heavenly vision:
[20] But shewed first unto them of
Damascus, and at Jerusalem, and throughout all the coasts of Judaea, and then
to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and do works meet for
repentance.
[21] For these causes the Jews caught me in the temple, and went
about to kill me.
[22] Having therefore obtained help of God, I continue unto this
day, witnessing both to small and great, saying none other things than those
which the prophets and Moses did say should come:
[23] That Messiah should suffer, and that he should be the first
that should rise from the dead, and should shew light unto the people, and to the Gentiles.
A few more Saul verses:
Rom.13 [12] The
night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of
darkness, and
let us put on the armour of light.
1Cor.4 [5] Therefore judge nothing
before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the
hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts:
and then shall every man have praise of God.
2Cor.4 [4] …the god of this world, Satan hath blinded the
minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Messiah, who is the image of God,
should shine unto them.
[5] For we preach not
ourselves, but Messiah Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus'
sake.
Genesis again:
[6] For God,
who commanded the light to shine
out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Yeshua the Messiah.
John’s last
letters we have:
1 John 1 [1] That which was from the beginning, which we
have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and
our hands have handled, of the Word of life;
[2] (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness,
and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with
the Father, and was manifested unto us;)
[3] That which we have seen and heard declare we
unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is
with the Father, and with his Son Yeshua the Messiah.
[4] And these things write we unto you, that
your joy may be full.
[5] This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare
unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
[6] If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we
lie, and do not the truth:
[7] But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have
fellowship one with another, and the blood of Yeshua
the Messiah his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
[8] If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth
is not in us.
[9] If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our
sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
[10] If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word
is not in us.
1 John 2 [8] Again, a new
commandment I write unto you, which thing is true in him and in you: because
the darkness is past, and the true light now shineth.[9] He that saith he is in
the light, and hateth his brother, is in
darkness even until now.[10] He that loveth
his brother abideth in the light, and there is
none occasion of stumbling in him.
Rev.21 [1] And I saw a new
heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed
away; and there was no more sea.
[2] And I John saw the holy city, new
Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for
her husband.
[3] And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the
tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be
his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.
[4] And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall
be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more
pain: for the former things are passed away.
[5] And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new.
And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.
[6] And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha
and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of
the fountain of the water of life freely.
[7] He that overcometh shall inherit all
things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.
[8] But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers,
and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their
part in the lake which burneth with fire and
brimstone: which is the second death.
[9] And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven
vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come hither,
I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb's wife.
[10] And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain,
and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem,
descending out of heaven from God,
[11] Having the glory of God: and her light was like unto a stone most
precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal;
[12] And had a wall great and high, and had twelve gates, and at the
gates twelve angels, and names written thereon, which are the names of the twelve
tribes of the children of Israel:
[13] On the east three gates; on the north three gates; on the south
three gates; and on the west three gates.
[14] And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the
names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.
[15] And he that talked with me had a golden reed to measure the city,
and the gates thereof, and the wall thereof.
[16] And the city lieth foursquare, and the
length is as large as the breadth: and he measured the city with the reed,
twelve thousand furlongs. The length and the breadth and the height of it are
equal.
[17] And he measured the wall thereof, an hundred and forty and four
cubits, according to the measure of a man, that is, of the angel.
[18] And the building of the wall of it was of jasper: and the city was
pure gold, like unto clear glass.
[19] And the foundations of the wall of the city were garnished with all
manner of precious stones. The first foundation was jasper; the second,
sapphire; the third, a chalcedony; the fourth, an emerald;
[20] The fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, sardius;
the seventh, chrysolite; the eighth, beryl; the
ninth, a topaz; the tenth, a chrysoprasus; the
eleventh, a jacinth; the twelfth, an amethyst.
[21] And the twelve gates were twelve pearls; every several gate was of
one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were
transparent glass.
[22] And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb
are the temple of it.
[23] And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it,
and the Lamb is the light thereof.
[24] And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of
it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour
into it.
[25] And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there
shall be no night there.
[26] And they shall bring the glory and honour
of the nations into it.
[27]
And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing
that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh
a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of
life.
Rev.22 [1] And he shewed me a
pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of
God and of the Lamb.
[2] In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river,
was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner
of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were
for the healing of the nations.
[3] And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the
Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him:
[4] And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their
foreheads.
[5] And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither
light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them
light: and they shall
reign for ever and ever.[6] And he said unto me, These sayings are faithful and true: and
the Lord God of the holy prophets sent his angel to shew
unto his servants the things which must shortly be done.
[7] Behold, I come quickly: blessed is he that keepeth
the sayings of the prophecy of this book.
In closing:
As you can see, many of the writers used Genesis
as a teaching tool.
Let us also use this analogy when we speak to
other people.
Just remember Genesis:
2 Cor.6 [14] Be ye
not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath
righteousness with unrighteousness?
and what communion hath
light with darkness?
NONE!
