Take heed and beware of covetousness!
Today we will take heed and consider
the 10th commandment, covetousness
When the weather is nice, it may be
easy to say or feel that:
My lord delayeth
his coming
We have plenty of time to repent,
wrong
2Pet.3 [4] And saying, Where is the
promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell
asleep, all things continue as they were from the
beginning of the creation.
Luke.12 [13] And one of the company
said unto him, Master, speak to my brother, that he divide the inheritance with
me.
[14] And he said unto him, Man, who made me a judge or a divider over
you?
[15] And he said unto them,
Take heed,
and beware of covetousness :
for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of
the things which he possesseth.
[16] And
he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully:
[17] And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I
have no room where to bestow my fruits?
[18] And he said, This will I do: I will pull
down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my
goods.
[19] And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou
hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine
ease, eat, drink, and be merry .
[20] But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee:
then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?
[21] So is he that layeth up treasure for himself , and is not
"rich toward God".
[22] And he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for
your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on.
[23] The life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment.
[24] Consider the ravens: for
they neither sow nor reap; which neither have
storehouse nor barn; and God feedeth them: how much
more are ye better than the fowls?
[25] And which of you with taking thought can add to his stature one
cubit?
[26] If ye then be not able to do that thing which is least, why take ye
thought for the rest?
[27] Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not,
they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not
arrayed like one of these.
[28] If then God so clothe the grass, which is to day in the field, and to morrow is cast into the oven; how much more will he
clothe you, O ye of little faith?
[29] And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or
what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind.
[30] For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and
your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things.
[31] But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall
be added unto you.
[32] Fear not, little flock; for it is your
Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.
[33] Sell that ye have, and give alms; provide yourselves bags which wax
not old, a treasure in the heavens that faileth not,
where no thief approacheth, neither moth corrupteth.
[34] For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
[35] Let your loins be girded about, and your lights burning;
[36] And ye yourselves like unto men that wait
for their lord, when he will return from the wedding; that when he cometh and knocketh, they may open unto him immediately.
[37] Blessed are those servants, whom the lord when he cometh shall find
watching: verily I say unto you, that he shall gird himself, and make them to
sit down to meat, and will come forth and serve them.
[38] And if he shall come in the second watch, or come in the third
watch, and find them so, blessed are those servants.
[39] And this know, that if the goodman of the
house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched, and not
have suffered his house to be broken through.
[40] Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of man
cometh at an hour when ye think not.
[41] Then Peter said unto him, Lord, speakest
thou this parable unto us, or even to all?
[42] And the Lord said, Who then is that
faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall make ruler over his household,
to give them their portion of meat in due season?
[43] Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so
doing.
[44] Of a truth I say unto you, that he will make him ruler over all
that he hath.
[45] But and if that servant say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming;
and shall begin to beat the menservants and maidens, and to eat and drink, and
to be drunken;
[46] The lord of that servant will come in a day when he looketh not for him, and at an hour when he is not aware,
and will cut him in sunder, and will appoint him his portion with the
unbelievers.

This is also vanity.

But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many

[11] But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness,
godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.

Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called , and
hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.
Great Wisdom
Prov.30[ 7] Two things have I required of thee; deny me
them not before I die:
[8 ] Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither
poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me:
[9]
Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is Yehovah ? or
lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain.

The 10th commandment
Covetousness = lust + corrupt minds
and hearts
Col.3 [5]
Mortify therefore your members which are upon the
earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and
covetousness, which is idolatry:
Mark.7 [ 20] And he said, That
which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man.
[21] For from within, out of the heart of
men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders,
[22] Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil
eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness:
[23] All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.
Rom.7 [7]
What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid.
Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had
not known lust, except the law had said,
Thou shalt not covet.
Exod.18 [21 ] Moreover thou shalt
provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating
covetousness ; and place such over them, to be rulers of thousands, and
rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens:
Exod.20 [17 ] Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's
house , Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his
maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.

wife, neither shalt thou covet thy neighbour's house, his field,

have sinned against Yehovah God of Israel, and thus
and thus have I done:[21] When I saw among the spoils a goodly Babylonish garment, and two hundred shekels of silver, and
a wedge of gold of fifty shekels weight, then I coveted
them, and took them; and, behold, they are hid in the earth in the midst
of my tent, and the silver under it.
[22] So
Joshua sent messengers, and they ran unto the tent; and, behold, it was hid in
his tent, and the silver under it.
[23] And they took them out of the midst of the tent, and brought them
unto Joshua, and unto all the children of Israel, and laid them out before Yehovah.
[24] And Joshua, and all Israel with him, took Achan
the son of Zerah, and the silver, and the garment,
and the wedge of gold, and his sons, and his daughters, and his oxen, and his
asses, and his sheep, and his tent, and all that he had: and they brought them
unto the valley of Achor.
[25] And Joshua said, Why hast thou troubled
us? Yehovah shall trouble thee this day. And all
Israel stoned him with stones, and burned them with fire, after they had stoned
them with stones.
[26] And they raised over him a great heap of stones unto this day. So Yehovah turned from the
fierceness of his anger. Wherefore the name of that place was
called, The valley of Achor,
unto this day.
Pss.10 [3 ] For the wicked boasteth of his heart's desire, and blesseth
the covetous, whom Yehovah
abhorreth.
Pss.119 [36 ] Incline my heart unto
thy testimonies, and not to covetousness.
Prov.21 [26 ] He coveteth greedily
all the day long: but the righteous giveth and spareth not.
Prov.28 [16 ] The prince that wanteth understanding is also a great oppressor: but he
that hateth covetousness
shall prolong his days.
Isa.57 Pertaining to the wicked - [17
] For the iniquity of his covetousness was
I wroth, and smote him: I hid me, and was wroth, and
he went on frowardly in the way of his heart.

For from the least of them even unto the greatest of
them every one is given to covetousness; and from the prophet even unto the priest every one dealeth falsely.

Therefore will I give their wives unto others, and their fields to them that
shall inherit them: for every one from the least even
unto the greatest is given to covetousness,

affection, implacable, unmerciful:
[32] Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things
are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do
them.
Rom.13 [9 ] For this, Thou shalt
not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not
bear false witness, Thou shalt
not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly
comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love
thy neighbour as thyself.
1Cor.5 [9 ] I wrote unto you in an
epistle not to company with fornicators:
[10] Yet not altogether with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners,
or with idolaters; for then must ye needs go out of the world.
[11] But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man
that is called a brother be a fornicator, or
covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or
a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.
[12] For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are
within?
[13] But them that are without God judgeth.
Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person.
1Cor.6 [ 9] Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the
kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters,
nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind [10]
Nor thieves, nor covetous , nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor
extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.
Eph.5 [3] But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you,
as becometh saints; [4 ] Neither
filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but
rather giving of thanks.[ 5] For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor
unclean person, nor covet ous
man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of the
Messiah and of God.

This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.
[2] A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant,
sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt
to teach;
[3] Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but
patient, not a brawler, not covetous;
[4] One that ruleth well his own house, having
his children in subjection with all gravity;
[5] (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take
care of the church of God?)
[6] Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the
condemnation of the devil.
[7] Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest
he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.

withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate
concerning the faith.
[9] But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest
unto all men, as theirs also was.
Heb.13 [5 ] Let your conversation
be without covetousness ; and be content with such
things as ye have: for he
hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
2Pet.2 [1 ] But there were false
prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among
you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies,
even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift
destruction.
[2] And
many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom

[3] And through covetousness shall they
with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth

delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;
[5] And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a
preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;

into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those
that after should live ungodly;
[7] And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the
wicked:
[8] (For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing,
vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;)
[9] The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly
out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be
punished:
[10] But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of
uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous are they, selfwilled,
they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities.
[11] Whereas angels, which are greater in power and might, bring not
railing accusation against them before the Lord.
[12] But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed,
speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in
their own corruption;
[13] And shall receive the reward of
unrighteousness, as they that count it pleasure to riot in the day time. Spots
they are and blemishes, sporting themselves with their own deceivings
while they feast with you;
[14] Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin;
beguiling unstable souls: an heart they have exercised with covetous practices ; cursed children:
[15] Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following
the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the
wages of unrighteousness;
[16] But was rebuked for his iniquity: the dumb ass speaking with man's
voice forbad the madness of the prophet.
[17] These are wells without water, clouds that are carried with a
tempest; to whom the mist of darkness is reserved for
ever.
[18] For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure
through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean
escaped from them who live in error.
[19] While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants
of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the
same is he brought in bondage.
[20] For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through
the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Yeshua the Messiah, they are again entangled therein, and
overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.
[21] For it had been better for them not to have known the way of
righteousness, than, after they have known it, to
turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.
[22] But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that
was washed to her wallowing in the mire.

Exod.34 [12 ] Take heed to
thyself, lest thou make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land whither
thou goest, lest it be for a snare in the midst of
thee:
Num.23 [12 ] And he answered and said, Must I not take
heed to speak that which Yehovah hath put in my
mouth?
Deut.4 [9 ] Only take heed to thyself, and keep thy
soul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine
eyes have seen, and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life:
but teach them thy sons, and thy sons' sons; [ 10] Specially the day
that thou stoodest before Yehovah
thy God in Horeb, when Yehovah
said unto me, Gather me the people together, and I will make them hear my
words, that they may learn to fear me all the days that they shall live upon
the earth, and that they may teach their children.
[23] Take
heed unto yourselves, lest ye forget the covenant of Yehovah
your God, which he made with you, and make you a graven image, or the likeness
of any thing, which Yehovah
thy God hath forbidden thee.
Deut.11 [16 ] Take heed to yourselves, that your heart
be not deceived, and ye turn aside, and serve other gods, and worship them;[17]
And then Yehovah's wrath be kindled against you, and
he shut up the heaven, that there be no rain, and that the land yield not her
fruit; and lest ye perish quickly from off the good land which Yehovah giveth you.[ 18]
Therefore shall ye lay up these my words in your heart and in your soul, and
bind them for a sign upon your hand, that they may be as frontlets between your
eyes. [ 19] And ye shall teach them your
children, speaking of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest
by the way, when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
Deut.12 [13 ] Take heed to
thyself that thou offer not thy burnt offerings in every place that thou seest:
[19] Take
heed to thyself that thou forsake not the Levite as long as thou livest upon the earth.
[28]
Observe and hear all these words which I command thee, that it may go well with
thee, and with thy children after thee for ever, when
thou doest that which is good and right in the sight of Yehovah
thy God. [29 ] When Yehovah
thy God shall cut off the nations from before thee, whither thou goest to possess them, and thou succeedest
them, and dwellest in their land; [30 ] Take
heed to thyself that thou be not snared by following them, after that they be
destroyed from before thee; and that thou inquire not after their gods, saying,
How did these nations serve their gods? even so will I
do likewise. [31] Thou shalt not do so unto Yehovah thy God: for every abomination to Yehovah, which he hateth, have
they done unto their gods; for even their sons and their daughters they have
burnt in the fire to their gods. [32 ] What
thing soever I command you, observe to do it: thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it.
Deut.24 [8 ] Take heed in
the plague of leprosy, that thou observe diligently, and do according to all
that the priests the Levites shall teach you: as I commanded them, so ye shall
observe to do.
Deut.27 [9 ] And Moses and the
priests the Levites spake unto all Israel, saying,
Take heed, and hearken, O Israel; this day thou art become the people of Yehovah thy God.
1Kgs.2 [4 ] That Yehovah may
continue his word which he spake concerning me,
saying, If thy children take heed to their way, to walk before me in
truth with all their heart and with all their soul, there shall not fail thee
(said he) a man on the throne of Israel.

thy servant David my father that thou promisedst him,
saying, There shall not fail thee a man in my sight to sit on the throne of
Israel; so that thy children take heed to their way, that they walk
before me as thou hast walked before me.

for Yehovah hath chosen thee to build an house for
the sanctuary: be strong, and do it.
2Chr.6 [16 ] Now therefore, O LORD
God of Israel, keep with thy servant David my father that which thou hast

the throne of Israel; yet so that thy children take heed to their way to
walk in my law, as thou hast walked before me.

judges, Take heed what ye do: for ye judge not for man, but for Yehovah, who is with you in the judgment.[7 ]
Wherefore now let the fear of Yehovah be upon you; take
heed and do it: for there is no iniquity with Yehovah
our God, nor respect of persons, nor taking of gifts.
2Chr.33 [8 ] Neither will I any more remove the foot of
Israel from out of the land which I have appointed for your fathers; so that
they will take heed to do all that I have commanded them, according to
the whole law and the statutes and the ordinances by the hand of Moses.
Pss.39 [1 ] I said, I will take heed to my ways,
that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the
wicked is before me.
Jer.17 [ 20] And say unto them,
Hear ye the word of Yehovah, ye kings of Judah, and
all Judah, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, that enter in by these gates:

Thus saith Yehovah; Take
heed to yourselves, and bear no burden on the sabbath
day, nor bring it in by the gates of Jerusalem;[ 22] Neither carry forth
a burden out of your houses on the sabbath day,
neither do ye any work, but hallow ye the sabbath
day, as I commanded your fathers.

For they shall eat, and not have enough: they shall
commit whoredom, and shall not increase: because they have left off to take
heed to Yehovah.

sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore Yehovah blessed

the seventh day is the Sabbath of rest, an “holy convocation”;
ye shall do
no work therein:
it is the
Sabbath of Yehovah in all your dwellings.

from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a
delight, the holy of Yehovah, honourable; and shalt honour him,

delight thyself in Yehovah; and I
will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with

The first day is mentioned only 2 times when they met for a certain
event in Acts and the letter to the Corinthians
It
never says the 1st day replaced the 7th day as Sabbath
It
never says the 1st day is a Commandment or a rest
Acts 20:7 And upon the first day
of the week,
when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready
to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.
1Corinthians 16:2 Upon the first
day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered
him, that there be no gatherings when I come.

We read from law and the prophets every Sabbath like they
did in the Book of Acts.
60 times in the Gospels and letters it uses the word Sabbath!
