Today we use the Gregorian calendar from Pope Gregory; from the
1500’s
Today is March 31, 2018 - in the 21 Century
March -- Mars' month
Middle English March(e)
Anglo-French March(e)
Old English Martius
Latin Martius "of
Mars"
Latin Marti(s)
"Mars" + -us (adj. suffix)
Latin Martius mensis "month of Mars"
Martius has always had 31 days. March was the
original beginning of the year, and the time for the resumption of war
Mars is the Roman god of war. He is identified with the Greek god Ares.

We will be following

dies on the tree, Sunday evening

Today’s Topic:
The epistles – letters
*Always remember these points:
All the
writers are writing from a Torah mindset
Only
the TaNaKh was available to get scriptural
information
Holy Scriptures = TaNaKh
Rom. Which He had promised afore by His
prophets in the Holy Scriptures
2Tim. Timothy,
from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise
unto salvation through faith which is in Messiah Yeshua. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for
doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That
the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished
unto all good works.
All the letters come
from TaNaKh input
--
Always ask: Who is
writing the letter? To whom was it written?
The Letters
are written to a direct congregation or person
We only
have many half conversations. Many letters we just don’t have today.
Here is an example:
1Cor.7 Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me: It is good for a
man not to touch a woman.
We don’t have that letter.
Other examples:
There
is only one letter to the Philippians, Colossians, Titus and Ephesians etc…
Where is the discourse? It stands to reason, there
should be other letters between Paul and the other congregations.
All
letters are approximately 2000 years old, they would be shocked to know we are
reading them in the 21 century.
We get only
a glimpse of other people, situations, other lands, other governments and their
rulers, forcible religious leaders etc…
There
were 12 Apostles, I am sure they must have written
a letter or two.
All we
can do is try to gleam some information that we may use in the 21 century from the
Torah minded writings.
We also
hear of the protocol, structure and organization of the Gentile congregations.
One
thing of note, we hear in the letters the yearning to see each other, the care,
and the love for each other.
Remember:
No
letter can change a commandment in Torah or create a new one.
-------------------------------
Saul was sent to the Gentile nations
Acts.26 [17] Delivering thee Saul from
the people, and from the Gentiles, unto whom now I send thee, to open their
eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto
God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them
which are sanctified by faith that is in me.
A few other writers: James, Peter, John and Jude
14 Letters by Saul:
Some letters to groups of people,
congregations:
Romans
1 Corinthians
2 Corinthians
Galatians
Ephesians
Philippians
Colossians
1 Thessalonians
2 Thessalonians
Hebrews
Some letters
to individuals:
2 Timothy
Titus
-------------------------
Very few other letters
1 Peter
2 Peter
1 John
2 John
3 John
Jude

Let’s examine these letters with the information above *
Romans – Saul
- to all that be in Rome
In Paul’s letters, we get to meet many brothers and sisters
(Salute means to welcome
embrace, greet)
I commend unto you Phebe our sister, which is a servant of the
church which is at Cenchrea:That ye receive her in Yehovah,
as becometh saints, and that ye assist her in
whatsoever business she hath need of you: for she hath been a succourer of many, and of myself also.
Greet Priscilla and Aquila my helpers in Messiah
Yeshua:Who have for my life
laid down their own necks: unto whom not only I give thanks, but also all the churches of the Gentiles.Likewise greet the church that is
in their house.
Salute my wellbeloved Epaenetus, who is the firstfruits
of Achaia unto Messiah.
Greet Mary, who bestowed much labour on us.
Salute Andronicus and Junia, my kinsmen, and my fellowprisoners,
who are of note among the apostles, who also were in Messiah before me.
Greet Amplias my
beloved in Yehovah.
Salute Urbane, our helper in Messiah, and Stachys my
beloved.
Salute Apelles approved in Messiah. Salute
them which are of Aristobulus' household.
Salute Herodion my kinsman. Greet them that be of the household of Narcissus,
which are in Yehovah.
Salute Tryphena and Tryphosa,
who labour in the Lord.
Salute the beloved Persis,
which laboured much in Yehovah.
Salute Rufus chosen in Yehovah, and his mother and mine.
Salute Asyncritus, Phlegon, Hermas, Patrobas, Hermes, and
the brethren which are with them.
Salute Philologus, and Julia, Nereus,
and his sister, and Olympas, and all the saints which
are with them.
Salute one another with an
holy kiss.
The churches of Messiah salute you.
Now I beseech you, brethren,
mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye
have learned; and avoid them.
For they that are such serve not our Lord Yeshua the
Messiah, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the
hearts of the simple.
For your obedience is
come abroad unto all men. I am glad therefore on your behalf: but yet I would have you wise unto that which
is good, and simple concerning evil. And the God of
peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Yeshua the Messiah be with you.
Amen.
Timotheus my workfellow, and Lucius, and Jason, and Sosipater, my kinsmen,
salute you.
I Tertius,
who wrote this epistle, salute you in Yehovah.
Gaius mine host, and of the whole church, saluteth you.
Erastus the chamberlain of the city saluteth you, and Quartus a brother.
The grace of our Lord
Yeshua the Messiah be with you all. Amen.
Now to Him that is of
power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the
preaching of Yeshua the Messiah, according to the
revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began,
But now is made
manifest, and by the scriptures of the
prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the
obedience of faith:
To God only wise, be glory through Yeshua the
Messiah for ever. Amen.
---------------------------------------
1 Corinthians
Paul, called to be an apostle of Yeshua the Messiah through the will of God, and Sosthenes our brother,Unto the
church of God which is at Corinth,
Paul, called to be an
apostle of Yeshua the Messiah through the will of
God, and Sosthenes our brother,
Unto the church of God which is at
Corinth,
But I will tarry at
Ephesus until Pentecost. Feast of
Weeks
I wrote unto you in an epistle not to company with fornicators:
Now if Timotheus come, see that he may be with you without fear:
for he worketh the work of Yehovah,
as I also do.
Let no man therefore despise him: but conduct him forth in peace, that he may come unto me: for I look for him with the
brethren.
As touching our brother Apollos, I greatly desired him to come unto you with the brethren: but his
will was not at all to come at this time; but he will come when he shall have
convenient time.
I beseech you, brethren, (ye know the house of Stephanas, that
it is the firstfruits of Achaia, and that they have addicted themselves to the ministry of
the saints,)
That ye submit yourselves unto such, and to every one
that helpeth with us, and laboureth.
I am glad of the coming of Stephanas and Fortunatus and Achaicus:
for that which was lacking on your part they have supplied.
For they have refreshed my spirit and yours: therefore
acknowledge ye them that are such.
The churches of Asia salute you. Aquila and Priscilla salute you much in
Yehovah, with the church that is in their house.
2 Corinthians
Paul, an apostle of Yeshua
the Messiah by the will of God, and Timothy our brother, unto the church of God
which is at Corinth, with all the saints which are in all Achaia:
And to pass by you into Macedonia, and to come again out of
Macedonia unto you, and of you to be brought on my way toward Judaea.
For the Son of God, Yeshua the
Messiah, who was preached among you by us, even by me and Silvanus and Timotheus,
Moreover, brethren,
we do you to wit of the grace of God bestowed on the churches of Macedonia;
How that in a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy and their
deep poverty abounded unto the riches of their liberality.
2Cor.2 And I
wrote this same unto you, lest, when I came, I should have
sorrow from them of whom I ought to rejoice; having confidence in you all, that
my joy is the joy of you all. For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote unto you with many tears; not
that ye should be grieved, but that ye might know the love which I have more
abundantly unto you
2Cor.7[12] Wherefore, though I
wrote unto you, I did
it not for his cause that had done the wrong, nor for his cause that suffered
wrong, but that our care for you in the sight of God might appear unto you.
Insomuch that we
desired Titus, that as he had begun, so he would also finish in you the
same grace also.
Whether any do inquire of Titus, he is my partner and fellowhelper concerning you: or our brethren be inquired of, they are the messengers of the churches, and
the glory of Messiah.
For I know the forwardness of your mind, for which I boast
of you to them of Macedonia, that Achaia was ready a year ago; and your zeal
hath provoked very many.
---------------------------------
Galatians
Paul - And all the brethren which are with me, unto the churches of
Galatia
---------------------------------------
Ephesians
Paul,
an apostle of Yeshua the Messiah by the will of God,
to the saints which are at Ephesus
But that ye also may know my affairs, and how I do, Tychicus, a
beloved brother and faithful minister in Yehovah,
shall make known to you all things:
Whom I have sent unto you for the
same purpose, that ye might know our affairs, and that he might comfort your
hearts. Peace be to the brethren, and love with faith,
from God the Father and the Lord Yeshua the Messiah.
Eph.3 How that by revelation he made known
unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words
----------------------------
Philippians
Paul
and Timotheus, the servants of Yeshua
the Messiah, to all the saints in Messiah Yeshua
which are at Philippi, with the bishops and deacons:
Salute every saint in Messiah Yeshua.
The brethren which are with me greet you.
All the saints salute you, chiefly they that are of Caesar's household.
-------------------------
Colossians
Paul, an apostle of Yeshua
the Messiah by the will of God, and Timotheus our
brother,
To the saints and faithful brethren in Messiah which are at Colosse:
All my state shall Tychicus declare
unto you, who is a beloved brother, and a faithful minister
and fellowservant in Yehovah:
[8] Whom I have sent unto you
for the same purpose, that he might know your estate, and comfort your hearts;
With Onesimus,
a faithful and beloved brother, who is one of you.
They shall make known unto you all things which are done here.
Aristarchus my fellowprisoner saluteth you, and Marcus, sister's son to Barnabas, (touching whom ye received commandments:
if he come unto you, receive him;)
And Yeshua,
which is called Justus, who are of the circumcision.
These only are my fellowworkers unto
the kingdom of God, which have been a comfort unto me.
Epaphras, who
is one of you, a servant of Messiah, saluteth you,
always labouring fervently for you in prayers, that
ye may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God.For
I bear him record, that he hath a great zeal for you,
and them that are in Laodicea, and them
in Hierapolis.
Luke,
the beloved physician, and Demas, greet you.
Salute the brethren
which are in Laodicea, and Nymphas, and the church which is in his house.
And
when this epistle is read among you, cause that it be
read also in the church of the Laodiceans; and that
ye likewise read the epistle from Laodicea.
And say to Archippus, Take heed to the ministry which
thou hast received in Yehovah, that thou fulfil it.
The salutation
by the hand of me Paul, remember my bonds. Grace be with you. Amen.
----------------------------
1 Thessalonians
Paul, and Silvanus, and Timotheus, unto the church of the Thessalonians
Wherefore when we
could no longer forbear, we thought it good
to be left at Athens alone…
And sent Timotheus,
our brother, and minister of God, and our fellowlabourer
in the gospel of Messiah, to establish you, and to comfort you concerning your
faith…
1Thes.5 [27] I charge
you by Yehovah that this epistle / letter be read unto all the holy brethren.
(In Thessalonica)
---------
2 Thessalonian
Paul, and Silvanus, and Timotheus, unto the church of the Thessalonians
The
salutation of Paul with mine own hand, which is the token in every epistle / letter: so I write.
------------------------
1 Timothy
Paul, an apostle of Yeshua
the Messiah by the commandment of God our Saviour,
and Lord Yeshua the Messiah, which is our hope;
Unto Timothy, my own son in the faith:
As I besought thee to
abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some
that they teach no other doctrine
Macedonia, a region of Greece
2 Timothy
Paul, an apostle of Yeshua
the Messiah by the will of God,
according to the promise of life which is in Messiah Yeshua…
To Timothy, my dearly beloved son
This thou knowest, that all they which are
in Asia be turned away from me; of whom are Phygellus and Hermogenes.
Yehovah give
mercy unto the house of Onesiphorus; for he oft
refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chain: But, when he was in Rome, he
sought me out very diligently, and found me.The Lord
grant unto him that he may find mercy of Yehovah in
that day: and in how many things he ministered unto me at Ephesus, thou knowest very well.
Do thy diligence to come shortly unto me:
For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world, and is
departed unto Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia,
Titus unto Dalmatia.
Only
Luke is with me. Take Mark,
and bring him with thee: for he is profitable to me for the ministry.
And Tychicus have I sent to Ephesus.
The cloke that I left at Troas with Carpus,
when thou comest, bring with thee, and the books, but
especially the parchments.
Alexander the coppersmith did me much evil: the Lord reward him
according to his works:Of
whom be thou ware also; for he hath greatly withstood
our words.
Salute Prisca and Aquila,
and the household of Onesiphorus.
Erastus
abode at Corinth: but Trophimus have I left at Miletum sick.
Do thy diligence to come before
winter.
Eubulus greeteth
thee, and Pudens, and Linus,
and Claudia, and all the brethren.
-----------------
Titus
Paul, a
servant of God,To Titus, mine
own son after the common faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father
and the Lord Yeshua the Messiah our Saviour.
For
this cause left I thee in Crete, that
thou shouldest set in order the things that are
wanting, and ordain
elders in every city, as I had appointed thee:
When I shall send Artemas unto thee, or
Tychicus, be diligent to come unto me to Nicopolis: for I have determined there to winter.
Bring Zenas the lawyer and Apollos on their journey diligently, that nothing be
wanting unto them.
-------------------------
Philemon
Paul, a prisoner of Yeshua
the Messiah, and Timothy our brother, unto Philemon our dearly beloved, and fellowlabourer…
And to our beloved Apphia, and Archippus
our fellowsoldier, and to the church in thy house
Grace to you, and
peace, from God our Father and the Lord Yeshua the
Messiah.
thank my God, making
mention of thee always in my prayers,
Hearing of thy love and faith, which thou hast toward the Lord Yeshua, and toward all saints;
That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging
of every good thing which is in you in Messiah Yeshua.
For we have great joy and consolation in thy love, because the bowels of the
saints are refreshed by thee, brother.
Wherefore, though I might be much bold in Messiah to enjoin thee that which is
convenient,
Yet for love's sake I rather beseech thee, being such an one as Paul the aged,
and now also a prisoner of Yeshua the Messiah.
I beseech thee for my son Onesimus, whom I have begotten in my bonds:
Which in time past was to thee unprofitable, but now profitable to thee and to
me:
Whom I have sent
again: thou therefore receive him, that is, mine own bowels:
Whom I would have retained with me, that in thy stead he might have ministered
unto me in the bonds of the gospel:
But without thy mind
would I do nothing; that thy benefit should not be as it were of necessity, but
willingly.
For perhaps he
therefore departed for a season, that thou shouldest
receive him for ever;
Not now as a servant, but above a servant, a
brother beloved, specially to me, but how much more unto thee, both in the
flesh, and in Yehovah?
If thou count me therefore a partner, receive him as myself.] If he hath
wronged thee, or oweth thee ought, put that on mine
account;
I Paul have written it with mine own
hand, I will repay it: albeit I do not say
to thee how thou owest unto me even thine own self besides.
Yea, brother, let me
have joy of thee in Yehovah: refresh my bowels in Yehovah.
Having confidence in thy obedience I
wrote unto thee, knowing that thou wilt also do more than I say.
But withal prepare me also a lodging: for I trust that
through your prayers I shall be given unto you.
There salute thee Epaphras, my fellowprisoner
in Messiah Yeshua;
Marcus, Aristarchus, Demas, Lucas, my fellowlabourers.
The grace of our Lord
Yeshua the Messiah be with
your spirit. Amen.
-------------------------
Hebrews
God, who at sundry
times and in divers manners spake in time past unto
the fathers by the prophets,Hath in these last days
spoken unto us by his Son whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the
worlds;
And I beseech you,
brethren, suffer the word of exhortation: for I have written a letter unto you in few words.
Know ye that our brother Timothy is set at liberty; with
whom, if he come shortly, I will see you.
Salute all them that have the rule over you, and all the saints. They of Italy salute you. Grace be with you all. Amen.
------------------------
James
James, a servant of God and of the Lord
Yeshua the Messiah, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting. My brethren…
-------------------
1 Peter
Peter, an apostle of Yeshua the Messiah, to the strangers scattered throughout
Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,
[2] Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the
Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of
the blood of Yeshua the Messiah: Grace unto you, and
peace, be multiplied.
The elders which are among you I
exhort, who am also an elder,
and a witness of the sufferings of Messiah, and also a partaker of the glory
that shall be revealed:
Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the
oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but
of a ready mind;
Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being ensamples to the flock.
By Silvanus, a
faithful brother unto you, as I suppose,
I have written briefly, exhorting, and testifying that this is the true
grace of God wherein ye stand.
The
church that is at Babylon, elected together with you, saluteth you; and so doth Marcus my son.
2 Peter
Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle
of Yeshua the Messiah, to them that have obtained like precious faith
with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour
Yeshua the Messiah:
This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you;
-----------------------
1 John - And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.
1John - My little children, these things write I unto
you, that ye sin not.
I have
not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and
that no lie is of the truth.
Little
children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.
The elder unto the elect lady and her children, whom I love
in the truth; and not I only, but also all they that have known the truth;
For the truth's sake, which dwelleth in us, and shall
be with us for ever.
Grace be with you, mercy, and peace, from God the
Father, and from the Lord Yeshua the Messiah, the Son
of the Father, in truth and love.
I rejoiced greatly that I found of thy
children walking in truth, as we have received a commandment from the
Father.
[5]
And now I beseech thee, lady, not as
though I wrote a new commandment unto thee, but that which we had from the
beginning, that we love one another.
Having many things to write unto you, I would not write with
paper and ink: but I trust to come unto you, and speak face to face, that our
joy may be full.
The children of thy elect sister greet
thee. Amen
3 John - The elder unto the wellbeloved
Gaius, whom I love in the truth.
Demetrius hath good report of all men, and of the truth
itself: yea, and we also bear record; and ye know that our record is true.
I had
many things to write, but I will not with ink and pen write unto thee:
But
I trust I shall shortly see thee, and we shall speak face to face. Peace be to thee. Our friends salute thee. Greet the friends by
name.
-------------------------
Jude
Jude, the servant of Yeshua the Messiah, and brother of James, to them that are
sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Yeshua
the Messiah, and called - Mercy
unto you, and peace, and love, be multiplied. Beloved…
---------------------------
Paul in bonds
Phil.1 [7] Even as it is meet for me to think this of you
all, because I have you in my heart; inasmuch as both in my bonds, and
in the defence and confirmation of the gospel, ye all
are partakers of my grace.
[13]
So that my bonds in Messiah are manifest in all the palace, and in all
other places;
[14]
And many of the brethren in the Lord, waxing confident by my bonds, are
much more bold to speak the word without fear.
[16]
The one preach Messiah of contention, not sincerely, supposing to add
affliction to my bonds:
Col.4 [18] The salutation by the
hand of me Paul. Remember my bonds. Grace be
with you. Amen.
Phlm.1 [10] I beseech thee for my son Onesimus, whom I have begotten
in my bonds:
Heb.10 [34] For ye had compassion of me in my bonds,
and took joyfully the spoiling of your goods, knowing in yourselves that ye
have in heaven a better and an enduring substance.
-------------------
Other passages - Acts is full of names, places, congregations,
situations etc…
In conclusion:
I hope and pray you now have a better understanding of the letters
/ epistles
