Today we use the Gregorian calendar from Pope Gregory; from the 1500’s,
December 12, 2015
Middle English decembre
Old French decembre
Latin december
"tenth month"
Latin decem "ten" + -ber (adj.
suffix)
December had 30 days, until Numa when it had 29 days, until Julius when it became 31 days long.

Today’s topic:
What is a possible time Yeshua
the Messiah may have been born?
Remember, this is not a fact
Here are some scriptures to consider
as a possibility of Yeshua’s birth.
While much of the world celebrates the birth of Yeshua the Messiah - Jesus Christ on the 25th of December,
can the actual day of Yeshua's birth be determined
from scripture? No!
Let’s explore one possibility:
The first passage
we will consider begins with the father of John the Baptist, Zacharias:
Luke
1:5
There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judaea, a certain priest named
Zacharias, of the course of Abia: and his wife was of
the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elisabeth.
Luke
1:8 And
it came to pass, that while he executed the priest's office before God in the
order of his course, ... [9] According to the custom of the priest's office,
his lot was to burn incense when he went into the temple of Yehovah.
Luke
1:23
And it came to pass, that, as soon as the days of his ministration were
accomplished, he departed to his own house.
Luke 1:24 And after those days his wife
Elisabeth conceived,
The clue given to us here is that
Zacharias was of the "course" of Abia.
The 24 Courses of the Temple
Priesthood
King David on
God's instructions divided the sons of Aaron into 24 groups to setup a schedule
by which the Temple of the Lord could be staffed with priests all year round in
an orderly manner. After the 24 groups of priests were established, lots were
drawn to determine the sequence in which each group would serve in the Temple.
1 Chr.23:[6]
And David divided them into courses among the sons of Levi, namely, Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.
That
sequence is as follows: 1 Chr. 24:1-6 - the divisions of the sons of Aaron.

1 Chr 24:19 These were the
orderings of them in their service to come into the house of Yehovah, according to their manner, under Aaron their
father, as Yehovah God of Israel had commanded him.
Now each one of the 24
"courses" of priests would begin and end their service in the Temple
on the Sabbath, a tour of duty being for one week.
2 Chr. 23:[8] So the Levites and all
Judah did according to all things that Jehoiada the
priest had commanded, and took every man his men that were to come in on the sabbath, with them that were to go out on the Sabbath: for Jehoiada the priest dismissed not the courses.
On three
occasions during the year, all the men of Israel were required to travel to
Jerusalem for feasts of Yehovah, so on those
occasions all the priests would be needed in the Temple to accommodate the
crowds. Those three feasts were Unleavened Bread, Pentecost, and Tabernacles
Deut 16:[16] Three times in a year shall all thy
males appear before Yehovah thy God in the place
which he shall choose; in the feast of unleavened bread, and in the feast of
weeks, and in the feast of tabernacles: and they shall not appear before Yehovah empty:[17] Every man shall give as he is
able, according to the blessing of Yehovah thy God
which he hath given thee.
The Yearly Cycle of Service in the
Temple
God's calendar
begins in the spring, during the month of ha Aviv / Nisan, so the first
"course" of priests, would be that of the family of Jehoiarib, who would serve for seven days.
The second week
would then be the responsibility of the family of Jedaiah.
The third week would be the feast of Unleavened Bread, and all priests would be
present for service.
Then the
schedule would resume with the third course of priests, the family of Harim. By this plan, when the 24th course was completed,
the general cycle of courses would repeat.
This schedule
would cover 51 weeks or 357 days, enough for the lunar calendar (about 354
days).
So, in a period
of a year, each group of priests would serve in the Temple twice on their
scheduled course, in addition to the 3 major feasts, for a total of about five
weeks of duty.
The Conception of John the Baptist
Now back to
Zacharias, the father of John the Baptist.
Luke 1:23 And it came to pass,
that, as soon as the days of his ministration were accomplished, he departed to
his own house.
Luke 1:24 And after those days
his wife Elisabeth conceived
Beginning with
the first month, ha Aviv
/ Nisan, in the spring (March-April), the schedule of the priest's courses
would result with Zacharias serving during the 10th week of the year. This is
because he was a member of the course of Abia (Abijah), the 8th course, and both the Feast of Unleavened
Bread (15-21 ha Aviv / Nisan) and Pentecost (6 Sivan) would have occurred
before his scheduled duty. This places Zacharias' administration in the Temple
as beginning on the second Sabbath of the third month, Sivan (May-June).

Third |

Mijamin (6) |
Jeshuah (9) |

Hakkoz (7) |
Shecaniah (10) |
Having
completed his Temple service on the third Sabbath of Sivan, Zacharias returned
home and soon conceived his son John. So John the Baptist was probably
conceived shortly after the third Sabbath of the month of Sivan.
The Conception of Yeshua
Now the reason that the
information about John is important is because according to Luke, Yeshua was conceived by the Holy Spirit in the sixth month
of Elisabeth's pregnancy:
Luke 1:24 And after those days
his wife Elisabeth conceived, and hid herself five months,
Luke 1:26 And in the sixth
month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee,
named Nazareth,
Note that verse
26 above refers to the sixth month of Elisabeth's pregnancy, not Elul, the
sixth month of the Hebrew calendar, and this is made plain by the context of
verse 24 and again in verse 36:
Luke
1:36
And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old
age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren.
Now working
from the information about John's conception late in the third month, Sivan,
and advancing six months, we arrive late in the 9th month of Kislev (Nov-Dec)
for the time frame for the conception
of Yeshua.
The Birth of John the Baptist
Based on a
conception shortly after the third Sabbath of the month of Sivan, projecting
forward an average term of about 10 lunar months (40 weeks), we arrive in the
month of ha Aviv / Nisan. It would appear that John the Baptist may have been
born in the middle of the month, which would coincide with Passover and the
Feast of Unleavened Bread.
So then, the
Feast of Unleavened Bread begins on the 15th day of the 1st month, Aviv /
Nisan, and this is a likely date for the birth of John the Baptist.
The Birth of Yeshua
the Messiah
Since Jesus was
conceived six months after John the Baptist, and we have established a likely
date for John's birth, we need only move six months farther down the calendar
to arrive at a likely date for the birth of Yeshua, from
the 15th day of the 1st. month, ha Aviv / Nisan, we go to the 15th
day of the 7th month, ha Ethanim.
What do we find
on that date? It is the feast of Tabernacles! The 15th day of ha Ethanim begins the third and last feast of the year to
which all the men of Israel were to gather in Jerusalem for Temple services.
Lev
23:34[34]
Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, The fifteenth day of this
seventh month shall be the feast of tabernacles for seven days unto Yehovah.
Immanuel
Isa
7:14
Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall
conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
Immanuel means "God
with us".
The Son of God had come to dwell with, or tabernacle on earth with His people.
John
1:14 And
the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the
glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
--------
The Feast of Tabernacles
is for eight days - Lev 23:
[34]
Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, The
fifteenth day of this seventh month shall be the feast of tabernacles for seven
days unto Yehovah.
[35] On the first day shall be an holy
convocation: ye shall do no servile work therein.
[36] Seven days ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto Yehovah: on the eighth day shall be an
holy convocation unto you; and ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto Yehovah: it is a solemn assembly; and ye shall do no
servile work therein.
[39]
Also in the fifteenth day of the seventh month, when ye have gathered in the
fruit of the land, ye shall keep a feast unto Yehovah
seven days: on the first day shall be a Sabbath, and on the eighth day shall be
a Sabbath.
[40] And ye shall take you on the first day the boughs of goodly trees,
branches of palm trees, and the boughs of thick trees, and willows of the
brook; and ye shall rejoice before Yehovah your God
seven days.
[41] And ye shall keep it a feast unto Yehovah
seven days in the year. It shall be a statute for ever
in your generations: ye shall celebrate it in the seventh month.
[42] Ye shall dwell in booths seven days; all that are Israelites born
shall dwell in booths:
[43] That your generations may know that I made the children of Israel
to dwell in booths, when I brought them out of the land of Egypt: I am Yehovah your God.
Eight days? It
may be because an Hebrew infant was dedicated to God
by performing circumcision on the eighth
day after birth:
Luke
2:21
And when eight
days were accomplished for the circumcising of the child, his name
was called Yeshua, which was so named of the angel
before he was conceived in the womb.
So the infant Yeshua would have been circumcised on the eighth and last
day of the Feast of Tabernacles, a Sabbath day. The last great day of the feast
of Tabernacles is called Shemini Atzeret.
In
Conclusion:
If you have
followed the above reasoning, based on the scriptural evidence, a case can seemingly
be made that Yeshua the Messiah was born on the 15th
day of the month of ha Ethanim, on the first day of
the Feast of Tabernacles, which corresponds to the September - October timeframe
of our present calendar.

Tabernacles Future Fulfillment
It is also interesting to note that
Tabernacles was a feast on the ingathering of the Harvest
If
Yeshua's first coming was on the 15th of ha
Ethanim, the first day of Tabernacles, then it is
quite reasonable to presume that the harvest of this earth, the ingathering of
the second coming of Yeshua the Messiah, will also
occur on precisely the same date.
Now one problem with this possibility
above is the verses below do not say it was a feast:
[1] And
it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar
Augustus, that all the world should be taxed.
[2] (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius
was governor of Syria.)
[3] And all went to be taxed, every one into
his own city.
[4] And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth,
into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was
of the house and lineage of David:)
[5] To be
taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.
[6] And
so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she
should be delivered.
[7] And
she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and
laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn. (Some say it
was because of the feast, this is implied)
[8] And
there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch
over their flock by night.
[9] And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the
Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
[10] And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you
good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
[11] For unto you is born this day in the city
of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
[12] And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye
shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
[13] And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly
host praising God, and saying,
[14] Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward
men.
[15] And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into
heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem,
and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto
us.
[16] And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe
lying in a manger.
[17] And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which
was told them concerning this child.
[18] And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told
them by the shepherds.
[19] But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.
[20] And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the
things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.
[21] And when eight days were accomplished for the circumcising of the
child, his name was called Yeshua, which was so named
of the angel before he was conceived in the womb.
We
do see from the verses above, all the manger scenes are wrong, it was the
shepherds with the baby Yeshua, not the 3 wise men.
Also it never says “3” wise men in scripture, oh well….
Simply
put, scripture is not clear on this topic and to point to a date as fact, would
be a lie.
Here is some Catholic info:
The name 'Christmas' comes from the Mass of Christ (or
Jesus). Catholic
- A Mass service (which is sometimes called Communion or Eucharist) the
'Christ-Mass' service was the only one that was allowed to take place after
sunset (and before sunrise the next day), so people had it at Midnight. So we
get the name Christ-Mass.
The first recorded date of Christmas being celebrated on
December 25th was possibility 336AD, during the time of the Roman Emperor
Constantine (he was the first pseudo Christian Roman Emperor).
A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that
the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on the 25th December – Catholic connection
Many Orthodox and Coptic Churches still use the Julian
calendar and so celebrate Christmas on the 7th January (known as little
Christmas) - which is when December 25th would have been on the Julian calendar.
This is only a thought on this subject. No one
knows…
The thoughts above are presented as a possibility
of the birth of Messiah Yeshua, not a fact. Again, no
one knows exactly.
Then again maybe he was born in the spring, oh
well, another possibility. One thing we do know for
sure it is not Dec. 25. J
